  • At first I'd cringe when they'd show the preview for "Duck Dynasty." I thought it would be a rather pointless show that would serve no real purpose other than to entertain us with "redneck millionaires." However, that was before I gave it a chance. Duck Dynasty presents you with comedy, drama, life lessons and life challenges all packed into one 30 minute show. While some may not always agree with the ethics of the Robertson family, you can't deny that they're anything short of 'good people.' If you watch this show without being too critical you'll have an endless supply of funny moments. Don't judge this show because the life style of the Robertson family, much like others have. Judge the show from an unbiased view. "Is this show funny and entertaining?" You don't have to look to hard to find the answer to that question.
  • "Duck Dynasty", a new reality series on A&E, focuses on the Robertson clan- a southern family who have made a multi-million dollar mini-empire in the duck-call business. We mainly follow Willie, the current CEO of Duck Commander (their business), as he tries to get his insanely Southern family and friends to keep the business together, while they just want to spend their time having fun, hunting and living off the land.

I will give credit where it is due, it is an addicting series, and is a lot of fun to watch. Willie actually comes across as a decent, nice Southern boy who is in over his head taking care of the family business. And some of the family and friends are an absolute riot to watch. I've seen three episodes, and it is a joy to sit through, cackling both at and with the Robertson family.

The series, thus far, has centered on feuds within the family, mainly as Willie tries to expand their business and get more deals for them. All while his workers are intent to do their own thing, and Willie himself gets distracted by various tasks, including catching frogs, participating in a cooking DVD, and trying to stop his workers from flooding their business' parking lot to make a pond to test the calls out in. It's engaging to an extent.

The problem with the series is the same problem I have with many reality series, however. There are always a few sore thumbs in the cast that you can't stand.

Now I don't mind Southern People. Although I'm from Upstate New York, I have family down in the Carolinas and further down. I don't even mind rednecks all that much, a lot of them are decent people and can be fun to hang around with and go fishing with.

What I don't like are rednecks (or any group of people, for that matter) who seem to go out of their way to try and prove every negative stereotype about them, and there are a few of those in this show. Also, some of the old-fashioned and downright misogynistic/misandry viewpoints some of the people express on the shows are kind of appalling. (Ex. Women must cook and clean, men have to be uber-manly, etc. Antiquated ideas that don't mean much in the modern world.)

Also, after three episodes, I'm also concerned about the show perhaps not being able to remain fresh over time. Unless there are some big revelations or change-ups, I don't see myself watching past the first season.

That being said, this is a decent reality-TV show, and it's a lot of fun to enjoy. For the most part, the cast are fun, real people you will love to laugh with, and it'll give you a great half-hour of TV. I give it a very decent 7 out of 10.

This show started out great with them hunting and fishing and blowing stuff up, but then not so good. Decently written for a "reality" show guess, but i's almost all fake. For one thing, guess i'll take his word for it that Phil lived in a shack and hunted and sold crawfish and stuff for 20 odd years. Before that, he Started over Terry Bradshaw at Louisiana Tech and didn't lose the job, but quit football so he could duck hunt more. Bradshaw mentions this in his biography. Phil finished his degree, did the shack thing after that for a while, then went back and got his masters' degree and taught for a while before quitting and going back to shack again and working on the duck call which got him rich. Willie was degree from somewhere, you can tell; most of them just think up ways to act stupid. I mean they lived near swamp all of their lives and they act like ppl from the city would out there for effect. Good family show maybe but if u want to see them really do stuff in swamp maybe check out their old shows on outdoor channel or something.
  • I have never hunted a day in my life, but saw the commercials for this show and watched the first episode just because it looked kind of funny to me. Well, since that first episode, I look forward to Wednesday night's more than any other night and cannot wait to watch every week! My entire family watches the show, and we all laugh and have a great time. I don't care if it is not all real, or if it is fake, I don't care. It is a great show, with a message at the end and throughout the course of the entire show. Jase and Si crack me up every week, and I find myself saying HEY and ending my statements with JACK a lot more often than before! It is a great show that puts the meaning of family first. It is our favorite show on TV and I am quite sad the season finale is already here this week. Bring this back for many seasons to come, we will be watching! Thank you.
  • Many of my neighbors wear Duck Dynasty T-Shirts, my son's teacher gave him a Duck Dynasty coloring sheet to work on in his free time, and the local stores all have Duck Dynasty-related items for sale. As someone who tries to be fair, I gave the show a chance. The first time I watched it, the boys were sitting around talking about ice cream and apparently about how to motivate each other to actually do some work. Then one of them made a crack about preferring chunky women to skinny women. Then there was a prayer. Next episode they were out shooting some birds, then they cut to some apparently humorous remarks by one son about another bearded member of the family. Commercial break. Prayer. If you don't really care about minor aspects of T.V. entertainment such as writing, plot, character development and plausibility, this is the show for you.

At first I thought the worst about the show, judging before watching. Unfortunately I waited till the show replayed all the episodes at once, to finally catch one. Now I am HOOKED! My husband HATES reality TV shows BUT once he started watching he was hooked to. I hope they come back for a second season! This is really, really good show. Just sad because I did not support it from the start. The old saying is true "Can't always Judge a Book/Show by it's Cover!" I really hope there will be a Season 2, I will add the title to my DVR list :) The family is so close, and the way that they run the business cracks me up. They take pride in what they do but they never forget where they came from. The whole family makes the show so interesting, all of them add a unique quality to the show that makes you want to come back for more. Good Job Robertson Family, for making such a family friendly show!
  • By looking at the rating and reviews about this so-called show, I can but, once again, confirm the reality of how tremendously sick society has become.

I cannot find a single positive argument to defend what this show tells, represents or encourages. I'm unable to find anything positive to say about its viewers. Anybody who enjoys this must be profoundly sick.

In a world where the self-proclaimed dominant species destroys its own habitat and enjoy it so, where parents claim to love their children while they smoke on their faces if not straight into their fetal shapes, the inhabitants of Planet Earth waste their resources and precious time on producing and -strangely- enjoying a spawn like this. That is nothing odd, in the context of our actual society, dominated by American idols and master chefs, by insults on the news and pictures of the newest madonna tattoo.

Still, from a rational and educated perspective, this whole business is deeply disturbing.

I'll have to re-watch "God Bless America" to cleanse my brain.

I am a science teacher and when they went to school it was great. I want them to come visit my school and give the same lesson... This show takes us back to what is important. Family! My new favorite show and would not miss it. I want a duck call too. I wish they would come teach my students some of their values....Oh I also want squirrel recipe. I shoot them in my backyard. That is my kind of women. PS I am a women. ha-ha Oh and what they said about make up. AMEN! I love the values he taught his grand children too. I loved how they worked but were rewarded. I wonder what their views are on the show... Maybe you could interview the kids or let them have some input.
  • I am a 51 Female Yuppie from New York and i LUV this show. I watch it with my 10 year old daughter and we can not stop laughing. I have gotten my friends to watch it and at first they are telling me no way, but once i have them sit down and watch the show they also have fallen in love the the Duck Dynasty Family. The Show when Jase takes Willie's RV on a road trip to the BIG CITY, i almost busted from laughing so much when Uncle Si could no longer take the smells from the other travelers. I HOPE A & E decide to bring this show back for Season 2. It is great to see a FAMILY get along or not getting along with out someone cursing and yelling off the top of the heads.

Remember Jase States RV means :REDNECK VACTION
  • If you have nothing else to do or watch then I might recommend Duck Dynasty for you, It will most definitely bring humor and laugh out loud moments to the table while still throwing bits of reality into the show. Overall It can be a great show but it can at times seem less organic so to speak feeling like the show may seem scripted at some moments. Due to the presence of pointing this out I felt that seasons 1&2 were much better than 3,4, & present/5 since it brung an atmosphere of hunting rather than stupidity and annoyance. Again try checking the show out and give it a try, for the average person it's usually a hit and miss entertainment wise.
  • After the gay bashing and racist remarks that were used as a nationwide publicity stunt, the whole yuppie lifestyle these characters led before they grew long beards and pretended to represent a fake lifestyle was exposed and this virtually washed away any pretense to being reality. There really is nothing left to say except that the idea that A&E and other "educational" networks would someday make PBS redundant was also washed away with the public display of homophobia and racism that captured the public attention in late 2013. A&E took the extreme step of firing a member of the show and then decided that, regardless of what they had previously decided, everything could just be a publicity stunt to garner more viewers, and they rehired him. Reality television has yet to go though something akin to the game show scandals of the 1950's. Perhaps the nation is ignorant enough that it never will.
  • These guys are right out of a straight jacket,How ever they are the foundation of the American way of life, I think this is what every real American would like to do and be. Living in the city and pulling a 9-5 just doesn't cut it. Shot I would love to try that frog hunting out, seeing I just about broke a rib laughing at all the fun they had, well I will be checking my local golf club hazards from here on out.. Love it, keep it up. Willy"s dad sure brought it home, simple and direct, Look out Forest Gump looks as if we got a real idle to look up too. every thing you want in life right in the back yard, and keeping the family values real while keeping it all together at the same time, loving every minute of it.

The Robertson family has made millions of dollars on duck callers with a company entitled Duck Commander. Somehow the Robertson family is entertaining and real. You can't make this stuff up about the Robertson brothers living in Louisiana. What I don't like and I can't get past is the men's hair of long beards and mustaches which comes across as sloppy and unkempt. While I enjoy the men staying real and authentic, I don't see the show as scripted like other reality shows. The Robertson family is Americana and has attracted viewers of all kinds. Perhaps the high ratings can state that audiences want something unique. The male audience probably enjoys the dynamic relationships among the brothers and family members They are still a loving family after all. I can't see the Robertsons selling out or need too. When I was just at Walmart, I realized that I needed to watch the show in order to understand. The episodes are short and sweet and to the point. The Robertsons have showed another world of reality to audiences. Since I don't enjoy duck hunting or anything like that, I don't think this show is for me. I did enjoy Miss Kay though and thought she was such a hoot but not enough.
  • Phil Robertson and the other yokels of Duck Dynasty care about one thing (as other reality stars) YOUR MONEY!

I refuse to watch these idiots spit their nonsense out. And "Reality TV" continues to be the biggest oxymoron the world has ever seen. I'd watch if a black gay couple moved next door LOL. That would be must-see TV.

As for the recent controversy, all you need to do is watch a trailer of this to know what you are in for. As a gay man, I cannot support something that goes against everything I am. Ignorance is a virus and tolerating intolerance defeats the purpose of tolerance.

In short, don't waste your time on this fake garbage or these people! They are making millions of dollars to dumb down the viewing public.
  • This is by far the most underrated show on Television. It's got a simple and fresh plot based around on a nook in America that most people mislabel. For all you "Yayhoos" (city folk) here's your inside look to the lives of "Rednecks." Anybody giving it less than 8 stars is disgruntled and jealous they can't live this lifestyle.

Phil Robertson is the greatest character on reality T.V. You won't hear quotes anywhere like the rare ones you hear from him. The antagonism between the brothers, Jase and his younger sibling and boss, Willie, is like watching two thickly bearded 9 year old's fight over guns, trucks, and control of the Nintendo joystick. You can tell they've been going at it over the years. When you add the outlandish philosophies of Uncle Si and contribute the genuine nature of the rest of the gang, you've got yourself one heck of a T.V. show. My only critique would be to cut back on the staged lines...

Give it time to catch on and Season 2 will be a huge hit.

    Phil>Jase>Si>Willie
  • When I first heard about this show, I was looking forward to it, but after just a couple of episodes, I was just embarrassed. The show plays to the lowest common denominator of what people think a 'redneck' is, and if the show and the events therein are not entirely scripted (which is not uncommon for a LOT of 'reality' shows), then this show has managed to find some of the biggest morons on the planet. And what's worse, is apparently, that's what the TV audience wants to see (judging from all the similar 'reality' shows on TV that are full of nothing but the dumbest people on the planet screaming at each other or doing things that are beyond stupid). I was sorely disappointed with the show.

I was going to only give it one star, but I realized that as bad as this show is, and what an insult it is to the real 'rednecks' and people who hunt and live off the land, there are even worse shows out there, and I had to leave room to give them even a lower rating.
  • Warning: Spoilers
John Luke. That's the name of one of their sons. One of their? Yes it's a big family of so called Red Necks who are riding high on the hog of the success of their old dad who made some lucky moves in his shack and success rained down upon him and his now huge family. I have no idea if the story is real, or half real. Does anyone know? Does anyone even know these folks? Back to John Luke. He's got the Christian name of Christian names. They push Christianity EVERY episode. That's my spoiler.

This show is obviously heavily scripted and they pull of their actions in one of the sloppiest manners on TV. I gave this show a chance. I watched ALL of them. A&E has been pushing this show like no other, well maybe 2nd to Storage Wars. They show marathons every 3 days. The tag line of the show is "running a family biz is tough, especially if everyone wants to go wild" Yeah real tough to be coasting along on someone Else's money. Oh wait that's family money. So out of touch this is it's an anomaly. Other reviewers are spot on that this is the American Dream. TO be dumb as a doornail but to have the money and toys to represent as something more. It's reality for sure on that level. But most people have to go into heavy debt to drive their big trucks with the super big tires and have their crappy cookie cutter big houses in the burbs. A bait and switch. This is what this show is. Not worth anyones time. Stick with Barney, you might actually learn something . IF they reprise this show next year, I will then have confirmation that the good ol boys are payin' their commercial time themselves.
  • Come on, this show may be stage I am sure, but it better than a lot of Reality TV. It's funny, and life is hard enough without some humor, they are millionaires and don't take themselves too seriously. Got to love that. They don't belittle others outside the family and we all know that family can get away with a lot. It clean, you don't see the kills, someone has to kill the meat you eat, unless your a vegan. Have you seen Food Inc.?

I don't watch reality TV normally, but my brother-in-law suggested I watch it and I laughed and enjoyed the show, that must make me a Redneck Australia with a University degree in literature and film script- writing. Do you know Phil has a Masters Degree. Don't expect Beverly Hills, or the Kardashians or Deliverance go in with an open mind and think of it as entertainment, a Good laugh and you will enjoy. Got to love their enterprise.

Most critics hate what the average public like because we are uneducated morons. Critics need to talk to the public not just their closed circle of friends and get a grip, most are so far up........ anyway . It is the average mug who pays to go to see a picture, that's why movies like Die Hard do well, and it's script is used in script-writing classes. I can't see Duck Dynasty being any more of a embarrassment than Jersey Shore is to America. I know which one I would prefer.
  • What can I say about this "reality" show? I could say the it is an embarrassment to every self-respecting citizen of the country these red neck cretins claim to be from (although without subtitles, how could you tell?). I could say that the Robertson's are one of the most intelligent families in the country since they have found a sure fire way of extracting millions from the lowest(in intelligence and economic status) element. I could say that this show represents everything that has gone wrong in the entertainment industry in the last several years. I could say that people who watch the show just get off on watching others humiliate and demean themselves (but that would be indicative the the viewer not the show). I could say that the fact that millions watch this show every week means that Armageddon can not be far away. Or, I could just look at the content, spelling, and grammar of the reviews of those that gave the show 10 stars and hope that the next generation raises the bar up out of the mud.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Most reality TV involves watching people go through situations many would not wish on an enemy, or are just variations of some competition. But it seems with Duck Dynasty there is a refreshing twist on reality TV. Although there are some scripted lines and situations, it is a good-natured show I enjoy watching with my family. As parents who stress the importance of college and finding work you love, it made us love the show even more when we learned that the Robertson men were college educated, specifically the history of Phil. Any man who would turn down the NFL to be true to himself and the direction he wanted for his life, and then still end up a millionaire is a shining example of why it is so important to teach kids to not just sell out for money, but rather find ways to make money doing what you love! We all laugh at the various scenes and situations, and enjoy the inside jokes and sayings we have adopted from the show. If you are looking for a humorous, family-friendly show, this is a winner.
  • This show has many entertaining episodes but most of it is scripted nonsense that would have got writers fired if it wasn't marketed as reality TV. If you don't mind the fact that 80% of the show is "The Office" level of believability and just want to watch rich people go hunting and complain about technology then the first few seasons are worth a watch but the later seasons just get repetitive and boring.
  • asascy6 February 2014
I watched for awhile and it was funny, at first.....but then after watching quite a few episodes, I began to see how fake this really is. The actions of these folks, even in the show, are not really acceptable. You don't show church scenes and then trespass on the local golf course to hunt frogs, same with invading the neighbors property to go fishing and then have Phil run off like a coward so he won't fess up to trespassing. And when Phil treated his own grandson so rudely by giving everyone else jam and not him, simply cos he was cutting up and having fun. DISGUSTING. Done with DUCK DYNASTY. They may paraphrase the Bible (kind of give their own version as opposed to actually quoting FROM THE BIBLE), but they sure do not live it, not even publicly. So, I am offended that they live a Do as I say and not as I do existence. Just done with it.
  • Helped me through dark times. Helped me realize that Jesus is never far from me.
  • Warning: Spoilers
The first 3 seasons were great but it should've ended right there. For whatever reason the characters stop going duck hunting after season 3 and the show focuses more on petty family drama. You can tell even in the first three seasons that it's clearly scripted and the characters are caricatures of themselves but it's entertaining at least. You can't say that about the later seasons.

I guess you can't do much with a show about duck hunting and making duck calls but this show does get creative in the first 3 seasons. There's episodes where they go frog hunting on Willie's golf course and get arrested after sending Phil and Si to to Willie's kids career day, another episode where they build a duck blind out of an old trailer on Phil and Kay's property, and another where they take Willie's RV on a roadtrip to get some ATVs just to name a few.

I also can't help but think Willie in real life isn't as much of a buzzkill or pretentious snob as he's portrayed in the show. All in all it's a pretty good show but as I said I would've put it out to pasture after season 3. I understand that's not how networks work though as all they care about is making money.
  • This reality series focusing on Louisiana multi-millionaires in Z.Z. Top drag is one of the worst US air-wave polluters. "The Beverly Hillbillies" was much more fun. Surpassing Willie Robertson as leader is patriarchal papa Phil. Calling himself a Bible-believing and gun-carrying Capitalist, Mr. Robertson has also become a Conservative folk hero. Bolstering his on-screen pontificating with off-screen pearls of wisdom, he has used both arenas to assert rights he finds in the US Constitution and Christian Bible. "The pursuit of happiness" does not include same-sex coupling, which Robertson finds repulsive. Diseases like AIDS are God's punishment for sinful sexual behavior, he declares...

Clearly, Robertson should stay heterosexual and stick with "Miss" Kay...

Robertson says they gave up wearing suits, but it sure looks like suits on home video covers and publicity photos. Maybe they're Robertson twins. The men in the family prefer beards and macho garb while the women wear more conventional clothing. They like to hunt and kill animals, like ducks. They are not vegetarians. Robertson recently began opening his act by stating politicians never say the three words, "I love you." He asks audiences to try to recall the last time they heard any politician say, "I love you." Robertson obviously never watches his President, Barack Obama, who frequently tells the crowds who shout their admiration for him, "I love you!" and "I love you back!"...

Jesus loves you, Mr. Robertson, in spite of this bad reality TV show.
