    • Trivia
The title of this episode is a reference to The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, as the message from the dolphins is "So long and thanks for all the fish."
    • Goofs
When Cho takes the screwdriver from the landlord, he uses it and hands it back. In the next scene, the screwdriver is still in Cho's hand.
    • Quotes

Patrick Jane: [sighs] Lao-tzu said that if you search everywhere, yet cannot find what you are seeking, it is because what you seek is already in your possession.

    • Crazy credits
In loving memory of Keith O'Brien. Keith O'Brien was a driver who worked with the crew of The Mentalist. He died of cancer. The producers thought it would be nice to commemorate him after "this episode of sad goodbyes".

    The Old Flame
While investigating the disappearance of the surfer Jay Banner with Lisbon, Patrick Jane finds his body buried on the beach. They proceed their investigation and stumble upon four suspects: Banner's mate Jeeter James that shares the rent of the house with him. Their landlord Lance Gladstone. The small-time drug dealer Carlton 'Tookie' Burroughs. And Lisbon's former fiancée Greg Marshall, whose wife Greta was having an affair with Jay Banner. But Patrick Jane discovers in a bar that there is a hidden treasure in the sea in a ship that sank many years ago that might be the motive for the murder.

"So Long, and Thanks for All the Red Snapper" is a reasonable episode of "The Mentalist" with a plot with many suspects. The best part is the revelation of the love life of a young Teresa Lisbon. My vote is eight.
