The 1990s was a great transition period for African-Americans that influenced and mold today’s culture. In the music world, it gave us gangster rap from Tupac, Biggie and Snoop Dog. In the sports world, Michael Jordan became a basketball legend with a three-peat with the Chicago Bulls. And for civil rights, there were debates raging on with the Million Man March, O.J. Simpson trial and Rodney King.
In “American Milkshake,” it is a coming of age story about a white teen Jolie attempting to fit into his mostly African-American high school culture by signing up for the basketball team in the 1990s. The dark comedy film explores the various issues of high school pressure, African-American culture, and teen issues.

Oh, the 90s.
The generation that grew up in the 1990s may remember grunge, parachute pants or the expansion of the Internet. But, in the urban settings, some young teens grew up with racial tensions and gangster rapper.
In the dark comedy “American Milkshake,” it is about a white high school student Jolie Jolson trying to fit in a mostly black high school by joining the varsity basketball team. He makes the team, but tries to fit in a sub-culture that he is not—being black.
Latino-Review had the opportunity to have a conversation with the main star Tyler Ross over a phone interview late last month. We discussed about basketball, preparing for this tough role and the 1990s.
“American Milkshake” is in limited theater release in Los Angeles and New York. It is also available on VOD.

It’s Better Than Yours: Andalman & Munro’s Vanilla Debut
While attempting to earnestly engage us with a depiction of mid-90s urban envy from the privileged point of view, whilst subtlety (at least as much as it probably can be) conveying an ignorant and racist streak lurking behind the naive intentions of its protagonist, American Milkshake, the directorial debut of David Andalman and Mariko Munro, fails to consistently engage us with its anemic narrative. While on paper, the directors, expanding from a short film, potentially have a daringly unique project on their hands, the end product reveals itself to be merely another depiction of the white heterosexual male reinventing himself by mimicking prized attributes of his black male peers and exploiting women for his own sexual needs and/or social status.

Well writer and directors David Andalman and Mariko Munro may have what you're seeking with "American Milkshake," a teen comedy that doesn't mind throwing back to the days when the West and East sides where still beefing. "Zombieland" is based on the hit Columbia Pictures movie of the same name, and finds four survivors outwitting zombies and searching for a place to call home. The "Zombieland" pilot comes from the feature film's original creative team, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (G.I. Amazon.com released a Zombieland pilot episode over their instant video service last month, but it has been revealed that they will not move forward with an order of additional episodes. The pilot was released along with a number of original pilots in April, but reaction to the episode was less than positive from many of those who had seen it.
While this is likely the end for Zombieland: The Series, it is possible that another company could pick up the show. If we hear anything else about the project moving forward, we’ll be sure to let readers know. If you’d like a preview of the pilot, we’ve included the official trailer below. AmazonStudios is taking a more unusual approach by letting viewers decide what they want to keep watching. The company has kicked off its screening process this weekend by unveiling its inaugural slate of 14 pilots — eight comedies and six kids shows, all made available for free on AmazonInstant Video, LoveFilm UK and LoveFilm Germany. Viewers are being invited to watch the pilots and Amazon is welcoming feedback from its audience. According to Deadline, the company will evaluate feedback from an online panel recruited on Amazon preview as well as traditional offline focus groups to decide if they greenlight a series or not. The highest-profile series is Zombieland, but the two that look most interesting are Alpha House, starring John Goodman with cameos by Bill Murray and Stephen Colbert; and Onion News Empire. Amazon has not yet decided how many of the shows will make the cut, nor when they will premiere.

So Netflix is out and running hard with their play at original content, nabbing top tier talent (David Fincher, Kevin Spacey, Eli Roth) and/or acclaimed franchises ("Arrested Development," duh) and more or less making good on their promise of changing the television landscape. Not only has their decision to drop entire seasons at once been a breath of fresh air, the quality of the programming from what we've seen so far (okay, just "House Of Cards") at least suggests the decision to invest in quality has paid off. But what happens when you take the opposite route? Well, you get Amazon's "Zombieland." The first trailer for the show, kind of spunoff from the hit movie (using the same name and concept, but that's about it) has dropped and it's completely tone deaf, and looks like it was shot for $10. Kirk Ward (“The Island”), Maiara Walsh (“Desperate Housewives”), Tyler Ross...

The spinoff from the 2009 horror comedy movie joins six other comedy pilots and six children's pilots which will be available for free to LoveFilm subscribers.
Customers will be asked to review the 13 pilots and help decide which of the 13 Prime Instant Video Amazon Studios titles becomes a full-season show.

Us in Progress is the first industry event in Europe devoted entirely to Us-indies and focused on the completion and European distribution of American indie feature films at post-production stage. It screens works in progress of independent American films at closed screenings to a selected group of attending European professionals.

The first one is Matt Porterfield's I Used To Be Darker , which will have its European premiere in the Forum section of the Berlinale. This film was awarded promotion and distribution support from Europa Distribution and Cicae at the Wroclaw event. The other film shown at the Berlinale will be Daniel Carbone's Hide Your Smiling Faces, which will have its world premiere in the Generation 14 Plus competition. Last month, Amazon announced plans to turn Ruben Fleischer’s Zombieland into a TV show. Two of the four main cast members have now been cast, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you should expect to recognize them.
The new Columbus (aka Jesse Eisenberg) will be Tyler Ross (Boss, Nate & Margaret, Milkshake).
And the new Little Rock (aka Abigail Breslin) will be Izabela Vidovic.
Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote the original screenplay, are working on this show, so there’s serious hope that this project will rock. We’ll see who they get to fill in the considerable shoes of Woody Harrelson and Emma Stone.

That new Zombieland TV series being developed by Amazon Studios is moving forward really quickly. Two of the four leads have already been cast. Tyler Ross, star of the indie Sundance film Milkshake, will be taking on the role of Columbus, played by Jesse Eisenberg in the movie. Then there's Izabela Vidovic, who was cast in the role of Little Rock, played by Abigail Breslin in the film.
This series will be a continuation of the adventures of Tallahassee, Columbus, Wichita, and her sister Little Rock, as they band together to survive the zombie apocalypse. Original Zombieland screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick wrote the pilot episode and they will also serve as executive producers on the project.
I think it will be cool to see how this show turns out, I'm sure it will end up being entertaining. Each episode will be 30-minutes long, and it will stick with...
