    My Rating : 9/10

This is what being creative is all about, seriously good movie about a lover who dies and then reincarnates as a fly to take revenge on his perpetrators.

Visually riveting, Eega is one helluva high-concept thriller/comedy and needs to be seen to be believed.

    Watch it!!!
  • How often have you seen a director telling you the story of his to-be directed film on the day of muhurat? How often have you laughed on hearing a silly storyline? How often have you seen a film which sounds silly but makes you wonder over it? Well you need not answer any of the questions above but what matters for everyone is that SS Rajamouli has created a film which stands way above the normality and entertains its patrons too. The story of Eega can be told in a simple manner. A boy falls in love with a girl. The girl is wanted by another sinister and powerful man. Sensing that the lover boy would be a threat to his dubious designs, the powerful man kills him off. The lover boy is born again as a housefly and is out to take a revenge over his killer. But rather than the story it is the process of experience the journey of revenge and the process of how a housefly creates havoc for such a dangerous person and makes him pay for his mistakes. The process itself is so good and hilarious that every time the fly makes its appearance before the villain there are fireworks and the proceedings are just logical and very believable. The performances of the lead cast are very laudable. Sudeep steals the show with his antics. His minute expressions coupled with anger, irritation and humor are to be experienced. His is a complex role portraying various emotions and Sudeep just excels. He is one actor who is actually a superstar in Kannada and yet accepted a negative role in his debut Telugu film. Kudos to him. Samantha looks beautiful as girl next door and the object of villain's desire. She tugs at hearts and also acts vengeful. Nani should be lauded for taking up this film in-spite of very well knowing that his role would be very limited one more like a guest appearance. He made an impact with his presence and his pairing with Samantha is fresh and youthful. Coming to the direction part, SS Rajamouli takes a leap into the next league of directors. He now can claim part in that elite group of film makers who have changed the trends of cinema. He is the only director who has not tasted a failure and Eega would continue the trend. He broke many a conventions with this film. His greatest trick in this film is to keep the story and screenplay very simple not taxing the minds of the audience. Though he employs high VFX in creating the fly and its adventures, he makes the eega look lovable and likable. His other biggest victory lies in utilizing every department properly. The other heroes other than Rajamouli for the film behind the camera were KK Senthil Kumar (Cinematography), MM Keeravani (Music) and Makuta (VFx). These departments have helped Rajamouli to visualize his dream of telling a bedtime story effectively onto the screen. Makuta have done a wonderful job of creating this creature and making it lovable without making it look grotesque. The VFx utilized in the film are of top quality and set new standards in Indian cinema after Robot. Keervani's music deserves a special mention as the maestro proves that given an exciting story, he would create wonders with his own talent. If the eega which appears on screen communicates with the audience, it is due to the background score of Keeravani only. KK Senthil Kumar once again proves that he is the best when dealing with high budgeted technical extravaganzas as he understands the directors vision and his camera just catches the proper nuances of the minute creature. Rajamouli has proved that no big star is needed to entertain audience but a little bit of imagination and compelling screenplay is enough to keep one glued to the screen. Eega is a compelling film which can be enjoyed by a 6 year old as well as an 80 year old too. Just go ahead and watch this amazing film.
  • I was initially drawn to this movie because of it's similar premise with the H.P. Lovecraft/Hazel Heald story "Winged Death". Eega is not your typical fare, especially as an American unaccustomed to the movies of India. The first quarter of this film feels like you're watching the love child of a car/jewelry advert and music video. That's not to say it's bad it's just atypical and at times distracting.

Overall I found the story to be somewhat predictable and it veered from a sickening sweet to the dark and sinister. The acting is pretty good throughout but the actor playing the villain really shines.

The CG effects are sub-par compared to a Hollywood block buster but despite this I found myself forgetting I was watching a very obviously CG fly which I took as a good sign.

I would say if you're in the mood to experience something different, to step outside of the rehashed Hollywood garbage, are open to a movie that teeters from whimsical to sinister, and want to watch a moral dance between what amounts to a mob boss and a CG fly give this gem a shot.
  • Folks, before I begin let me just say that Telugu Cinemas have become too formulaic in the past decade. To sum it up there is ALWAYS a flashback, hero sets out to make the villain look like a fool, right before the intermission/halfway point through the movie the audience is let in on the secret that the hero only knows, in between there is a love track between the hero and heroine that is established in a wish-washy way. All the while there are 5-6 songs thrown in at the most inopportune moments; with double-entendre lyrics. I for one am fed up with the lack of variety among the modern Tollywood films.

Along comes Rajamouli's "EEGA" (also released in Tamil as "Naan EE") and kicks the routine formula out of the equation, and puts any other movie made in the last decade or so to shame. TELUGU MOVIES do not get any better than this folks. Take a moment to applaud Rajamouli as this film is his magnum opus! The special effects, background score, cinematography, and screenplay rival that of Western world's best films (might be a slight exaggeration on my part). It's safe to say that Rajamouli's streak will continue, and will carry his name to new heights around India. He must be commended for making use of a low key set of actors and actresses to make (in my opinion) the greatest Telugu film ever made.

Sudeep is the real scene stealer here; while Nani, Samantha, and Thagubothu Ramesh do their roles justice. Sudeep plays the villain with such conviction that you forget he is acting. Every scene with our protagonist the "Eega" and Sudeep is sure to be eye candy for every audience member. I assure you that there will be enough comedy in this movie for anyone looking for a few laughs. After the halfway mark/intermission is when the ticket price starts paying for itself (I won't say why ;) ). I have to commend the SFX team for making this one a visual treat. There is not more that I can say without giving away key information about the plot, and story. Go pay the ticket price and enjoy this close to 3 hour visual feast.

GO WATCH THIS ONE WITH THE FAMILY!
  • Before I begin this review, I would like to take a moment to salute Mr. S.S.Rajamouli for coming up with an entertainer that has pushed the boundaries of our filmmaking. Eega makes us all proud to be a part of the Telugu Film Industry.

'Eega' has released across the world today in a big way and the movie has been directed by S.S.Rajamouli. Music has been scored by Keeravani and the film has Samantha,Nani and Sudeep in lead roles. The movie has some outstanding performances but Sudeep takes the cake. He is terrific as the villainous guy and his screen presence is riveting. Sudeep is a major asset for the movie.

Samantha comes up with a good performance and she looks very cute in the movie. Her interaction sequences with the Eega are heartwarming.

Nani delivers a humorous and spirited performance in the brief role that he has. He has good comedy timing. Srinivasa Reddy and Thagubothu Ramesh bring a few laughs.

S.S. Rajamouli's direction and screenplay deserve special mention. The story moves along at a terrific pace and the buildup to the interval is amazing. Good humor and solid drama keep viewers deeply involved in the film. The special effects are of very high quality and they have never been seen in Telugu Cinema before.

The emotional struggle of the Eega and its cute mannerisms will endear it to kids. Don't be surprised if your kids bug you for an Eega toy after this movie.

The climax block and the way the Eega extracts its revenge on the villain is shown brilliantly. Eega also performs Chiranjeevi's Indra step and Jr NTR's Yamadonga step during the climax title cards. Visual effects and CGI images are of a very high quality and they are worth applauding. Eega's revenge sequences have been well conceived by Rajamouli and the SFX team. As I said before, Eega makes us all proud to be a part of the Telugu Film Industry. It is wildly entertaining, hilarious at times and the Eega really endears itself to viewers. Don't miss out on 'Eega'. These kind of films don't come very often. GO and grab your tickets now folks...
  • First I let all you know that I am from a Hindi state (utter pradesh) where Bollywood rules But to be honest Bollywood is too idea less to be called a creative movie industry.Bollywood live on stealing from others from Hollywood , Pakistan , (almost from every part on earth) and now there is a trend to steal from Tamil and Telugu cinema .And the sad part is most of the people even never get to know that who was the original creator.some movies are gazani, roudy rauthor , bodygaurd , ready , and many more .Most of them are super hit in bollywood. And now Telugu cinema comes with this movie Eega (Makki in Hindi ) its like slapping Bollywood on its face. What Bollywood didn't able to do with its high budget , Superstardum , and wide area of viewership Telugu Cinema did it with limited resources ,budget and limited viewers Any telugu guy can tell you what a great risk was take to decide a movie in which the main character is a FLY. No offense But from past few years most of the telugu movies were also very formulatic in approach as a superman Hero , 1 or 2 heroins (for dance and songs) , a mastermind villain , some fight scenes and thats it .

But this movie is a fresh air , well told story , nice comedy scenes , great special effects and CGIs . I recommend this movie for everyone and salute Rajamouli (director) for his great work ,
  • Eega Definitely lives up to its expectation or we should say exceeds it, it is a joyous thrill ride from start to end, the movie starts on a love note and changes to a revenge drama. The story has been handled very well, it is a simple plot that has been told many times and here it is Rajamouli's version with full dose of Graphics. Eega has been very well received in Tamil and Telugu as well.

Eega Review, The Animation Scenes , computer graphics are merged and integrated very well with the regular shoots . The Realistic Animation is really impressive. All the kudos to the Makuta VFX for their excellent work in the CG , the Visual Effects are simply spellbinding and Superb. Kudos to Rajamouli for picking such a simple but interesting plot and and weaving the realistic animation and coming up with a Quality product, Complimented with Keeravani's music , the songs and the background music came out very well, all the songs are visually narrative.

Every character seems to be etched by Rajamouli and all of the them performed exceptionally well, Sudeep, Nani and Samantha justified their roles but Eega dominates them all.

The Visual effects are a visual extravaganza and a lot of hard work has been put in by the whole Eega Team. Telugu Audience has been so far exposed to graphics in the form of simple graphics for few minutes in a movie or two but nothing compared to this level in Eega. Eega appeals to be very realistic and will captivate you in every frame.

Indian Audience is Graphics illiterate and usually relate graphics with Kids cartoons or with Gods in BR Chopra's Ramayana or Mahabaratha, this is the first time in Indian Cinema that a full fledged Graphical movie has been presented.
  • Elements like the below are an icing on the cake : 1. Eega doing its best to prevent Sudeep from getting intimate with Bindu.

    2. Eega's teasing gestures to Sudeep, which is funny and also lends an aura of heroism around the fly.

    3. Eega's song where it challenges Sudeep is not only well-placed but also an integral part of the film.

    4. The character of Bindu being made a part of Eega's plot is superb. Kicha Sudeep's performance in Eega is getting rave reviews from various quarters. With his wonderful acting, the actor has won the hearts of the audience. However, his fan followers from Karnataka had one more reason to be thrilled
  • This movie is worth Watching .. Wonderful work by all CG artist and all the technical artist behind the making....! It Deserves an Oscar. A sure Benchmark. • While Hollywood is busy promoting promiscuity, perversity, Satanism, drug abuse, etc Bollywood is making a movie about - as the description of this movie states - a murdered man who is reincarnated as a housefly and seeks to avenge his death. Hollywood is going bankrupt, Bollywood is succeeding. Eega demonstrates perfectly well why that is the case, as silly as the premise of the movie may sound.

Anyone can make a porn movie, celebrate drug abuse, trash religions, etc. Any movie can be filled with sexual scenes, nudity, perversity and such things. That's why Dutch and French movies will never break through and that's why Hollywood is currently going bankrupt. It's a cheap, uncultured, immoral and shameless way to attempt to make money. In contrast, making a movie such as Eega takes skills, culture, religion and all of that to make it work. In addition, even though I'm not into romantic movies, Eega and Magadheera (2009) from the same director and co-writer of this movie, S.S. Rajamouli, I have greatly enjoyed both of these romantic movies. It's a huge relieve that S.S. Rajamouli hasn't tried to make a Western styled movie. Both Eega and Magadheera are culturally and theologically Indian movies in every way (and both deal with reincarnation). It gives me a little bit of hope that it's not over with good movies in the world. There is a still a country in the world that has enough self-respect to be able to produce such a movies like this one, instead of resorting to something like I Love You Phillip Morris (2009).

From the beginning to the end Eega has kept me entertained. I was expecting it to be bad but I was pleasantly surprised. The movie focuses on what matters to the story and never goes astray. I have never seen a movie in which a person is incarnated as a fly and that also makes one curious I guess, which works in favor of the movie and the movie takes full advantage of that.

A romantic but sad movie. Definitely recommended!
  • Makhhi or eega is a movie which is absolutely weird and non sense but wait......this movie is a official non sense movie. I am sure the director made it and announced "hey folks this film is non sense...see if you like it or not but i have tried to make it entertaining".

So this non sense movie is absolutely a rich experience. Its fresh beautiful and artistic. Unexpectedly this is first movie from south that i loved. Amazing story though nothing new but along with 'arey arey' soundtrack this film is just a refreshing experience. Don't know if they like it or not but i just loved this senselessness. Animation is unforgettable even though it has no match with modern animation movies. In all i loved this movie and congratulate director and crew for this try.

    Warning: Spoilers
I have hardly watched any Telugu film, apart from Businessman(2012) and some more. EEGA(Makkhi in Hindi) however does seem a film which sets high standards not only for Telugu Industry but also for Indian Cinema. For the first time, a human being is reincarnated as a fly which is a novel aspect. The story may seem pretty routine otherwise but the way the film is handled is superb. It starts off superbly, Sudeep's introduction and his fondness for Indu. The twist in the tale is superbly handled. Thereon the way the Makkhi takes revenge is superb and keeps your interest alive, the climax is awesome. On the flipside, the comedy at times does seem OTT as in most South films thankfully in limited doses. Also at times the film does cross borders but otherwise it's a superb film

Direction by S S Rajamouli is awesome Music is good, songs are okay VFX and Camera-work is superb, The dubbing for Hindi Makkhi is good

Kannada actor Sudeep who has done few Hindi films like PHOONK, RAKHT CHARITRA and plenty of films in Telugu and Tamil does a superb job, portraying the character of the villain to the hilt. His expressions, eyes convey a lot Samantha does a good job, Nani is good in a brief role rest are adequate
  • Eega is tagged as ultimate revenge story and you should watch the film to know why it is! This is really an ultimate entertainer where there is no big commercial hero to shoulder it. However, audience would connect with the Eega and its revenge right away. How many times have you seen crowds cheering a housefly's entry? Eega is not less than any commercial hero, at least in this film.

Rajamouli's has done very good research on the houseflies. He captured every tiny movements and incorporated in the film. He used the tininess of the protagonist to good effect and there are tons of scenes that would leave you awestruck. Watch out for the scene where Eega causes a traffic jam and the scene where it gets back into the running car through ac window.

Only a great director could imagine such scenes and bring them on to the screen with such finesse. Rajamouli ranks among the best directors that India has ever produced. Eega proves that he is the commercial guru of cinema. He made a film which is totally different and yet commercially viable.

All the sections of audience could enjoy this film as Rajamouli dealt it in typical Telugu commercial filmy style. There are elements that caters to every section. Except for the fact that the logic has gone for a toss, Eega is pretty good on every level. May be the screenplay could have been fine tuned as there are some hiccups in between.

Nevertheless, Eega entertains and engages throughout. There are scenes where you would watch the action with closed fists. Should we give better example to say that this film succeeds? Eega is an experience that should never be missed. And you know where to head right after you are done reading this review, right?
  • Director SS Rajamouli is one of those directors who have never tasted a flop in their career. He takes film-making a challenge and enjoys it as a passion and not for money. He has taken an insect as his hero in Eega and made the film, which is so gripping and makes the audiences to sit on the edge of their seats biting their nails. Sudeep (Sudeep) is a billionaire and women are his weakness. He always wants to tread wrong routes to achieve what he wants. He is ready to kill even his friend to bag what he wants. He sets his eyes on Bindu (Samanta), a miniature sculpture maker. Nani (Nani) is in love with her. Learning her love towards Nani, Sudeep bumps him off. Just before his death, Nani comes to know that Bindu also loves him. So he takes a rebirth as an Eega (housefly). Though it is an insect, it remembers everything in its past life and wants to take revenge on Sudeep. The rest of the story deals with how the housefly takes revenge on Sudeep. Performance: Though he had a very limited screen presence, Nani has proved that he is a talented artiste. Samanta has also proved that she could perform well and also filled the glamor slot. Although Sudeep is a villain, he has the screen presence from beginning to end. He has given an extraordinary performance. He is excellent in action. The housefly, which is a graphical object is the hero in Eega. The sentimental scenes between the heroine and Eega, the revenge scenes with the villain are excellent. Rajamouli is successful in creating the exact expressions of Eega with the help of animators and graphic designers. Technical: Senthil Kumar's cinematography is extra-ordinary and Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao has done a very good job. S Ravinder's art work is also worth praising. MM Keeravani composed two songs for this film, but his entire work is on background score. He has given wonderful re-recording, which elevates every scene. When it comes to direction, SS Rajamouli's work needs no mention. Taking a small point, which he heard in his childhood, he has brought out an excellent film. The storyline and the plot are perfect. The presentation is superb and the narration is extraordinary. In fact, the director himself is the hero in Eega because the housefly is a graphical object. Remarks: As Ram Gopal Varma's predicted, the film will definitely collect Rs 100 crore. The film, which has been made with Hollywood standards, will mesmerize audiences of all age groups and classes. It is must watch film. Watch it to enjoy Rajamouli's graphical wonder. PS: The film would be extraordinary if you can watch it in multiplexes

  • I saw this film at the Imagine (SF/horror/fantasy) film festival 2013 in Amsterdam. A lot of impossible things happen in this film, but the context is clear from the opening scene on, where we hear a persistent daughter asking her father to tell a bedtime story. It sets the tone for what follows: a fairy tale, with good and bad people, the good ones win in the end, the bad ones await what is coming for them, etcetera. The voices of father and daughter re-appear in the ending scene, to remind us that this was indeed a "Once upon a time" story from the start. Maybe the heads up is not really redundant, while all sort of things happen during the 2 hours in between.

Basically, we see a proverbial David and Goliath story: a David-like (Nani) figure is killed by the Goliath-figure (Sudeep), all in the struggle for a woman (Bindu). But Nani reincarnates as a fly and makes it his business to haunt and annoy Sudeep at first, later on followed by real attempts to kill him. It is beautifully visualized, with a lot of animation where a fly is neatly integrated in the picture.

In the first half hour (before the fly makes its/his appearance) I had the impression that the main characters were portrayed a bit over the top. Especially the bad guy (Sudeep), who usually gets any beautiful woman he wants, has to let go of Bindu who has set her eyes on neighbor Nani. Nani follows Bindu everywhere, but she waits 2 years before responding to his courting.

When collecting funds for a school support project, Bindu is received by Sudeep who writes a cheque on first sight in favor of her charity, but also insists she has lunch with him. This is where the trouble starts. Bindu is apparently distracted when seeing Nani nearby during lunch, being an unusual experience for Sudeep. He "solves" this problem by killing Nani in a dark alley. Nani reincarnates as a fly, at which moment the animation kicks in.

That is also the moment that the fairy tale atmosphere starts. Nani is determined to get his revenge. We see many impossible things happen during his actions. I'm not sure about some of them being physically possible for a fly, like carrying a needle many times its own weight. And the ominous writing on Sundeep's windshield looks also improbable. But who cares, since it fits the story line AND we can expect this in a fairy tale where the good win and the bad loose in the end, by whatever means available at the time.

All in all, in spite of the simplistic story that one could have derived from the synopsis, the plot is worked out beautifully. The subsequent attempts of the fly to deal with Sundeep, are various and creative. At first, the fly works alone. Later on he finds a way to communicate with Bindu, and they start working together. But even then, many killing attempts fail. As a result, we get many opportunities to admire how the animation and the "real" characters work together. We also become aware that a fly lives a very dangerous life, feeling very vulnerable and defenseless against people who think flies are a menace to mankind. However, this special fly survives it all, of course inherent to a fairy tale that is designed to let the good ones win. The festival visitors (all 18+) gave this film an 8.07 score for the audience award, demonstrating that this movie is also interesting enough for adults.
  • To say this is a creative wonder of Indian Cinema is an understatement for the word understatement. I say this because, if you read the synopsis for this movie before watching it - the ridiculousness of the plot will leave you thinking how did this ever get made. There are a thousand ways this movie could have easily gone bad, but to come out of each scenario in flying colors is itself a huge achievement. I have seen all movies of the director S.S. Rajamouli and would have never guessed he was capable of this level of creativity, story structure and most of all subtlety. Considering the limitations that plague all the big movie houses of Indian cinema when it comes to visual effects, what Rajamouli achieved here is phenomenal.

Nani (Nani) is in love with Bindhu (Samantha) which she does not reciprocate though she has a soft spot for him. When Sudeep (Sudeep) who is a millionaire and always gets what he wants has his eyes on Bindhu, realizes that she is in love with Nani. Sudeep kills Nani to clear his way to make advance on Bindhu. Nani is reborn as a housefly and vows to avenge his death and protect his love.

Let us first try to dissect the ridiculousness of the plot. The fly (Eega in Telugu) does not have any telepathic, telekinetic or healing powers. It is just a common housefly but with a determination. How can it possibly affect a bull of a cruel intelligent man with everything at his disposal defines the innovative script. Rajamouli throws in a healthy bunch of ideas on what all ways that a housefly can give literally sleepless nights to the antagonist well helped by accepted norm of coincidences in Indian cinema. Adding to that the lead female character is a micro artist who extends her expertise to equip the housefly with a mask and weoponized gloves.

When it comes to a default Rajamouli movie there is a certain pattern that he normally follows. The protagonist is a regular guy who gets placed in an extraordinary circumstance while inducing all the commercial elements of song and action sequences in the precise positions delivering a guaranteed hit with the masses. Here he sheds off everything that made his earlier blockbusters (well most of it) and comes up with a fresh presentation that works wonders. A special commendation to Sudeep, though he plays your default villain of Telugu cinema - does it with comic book style panache. Background score by M.M. Keeravani is as usual elevated for Rajamouli movies, cinematography is excellent especially in the stages when the fly is just born. Samantha has an important but a very simple role to play and she does a decent job. The extended climax is completely unnecessary and it is intended especially for Telugu audience craving for a happy ending. Another important aspect to be considered here is that, when taken into account of other creature based movies like 'Finding Nemo' or 'A bugs life' or even 'Wall-E', all these characters have a well defined face (at least eyes and eye brows) which help the animators show real expressions which was not possible here. The animators have to rely on just body language to show all the emotions where they do an excellent job.

    Original, creative, audacious and ridiculous
  • The movie starts with a regular love story followed by egoistic nature of villain and followed by CGI of a housefly. This might be the dumbest movie i have seen, how can a housefly have a memory and a brain?? The CI work is not that great either in the climax of the movie. I could not connect to any of the scenes and it seemed totally illogical. This movie would suit moviegoers who do not like to dwell into things too much.

There was no wow factor in the movie except for couple of silly jokes here and there.

pros: it suits kids to have fun in the movie while the graphics are on. The villain was good with his emotions and expressions.

cons: No gripping screenplay, not much emotions as this is a revenge story

Bottom line: Not worthy to waste 3 hrs of my time.
  • If you compare this movie to Antman I would rate this better in terms of visualisation (not on the terms of CGI)and if this movie had that kind of budget it would have been totally magnificient.I love the background music ,story and camera work.Movie's first 20 minutes are not that pleasing but after that the magic starts and it lasts till climax. Sudeep's(antagonist)work is very good and visualisation of nuances created by fly (Eega)is just mind-blowing.
  • Warning: Spoilers
Right at the beginning Rajmouli is clever in inserting a conversation between a father telling a bed time story to his daughter in the background of the titles. It in a way prepares the audience for the rest of the movie . To enjoy this movie one has to go to the level of that daughter to whom her father is supposed to be telling this story. If one watches by that mindset then S.S.Rajmouli's "Naan ee" would be a joyride , else it would be silly & juvenile.

Movie's story is nothing new but rehash all those Vittalacharya movies of the 70's (which too finds passing reference in the movie ) but the intelligence of the writer does make the viewer to sit up & take notice. It would have been a ridiculous idea when one thinks of a house fly taking revenge against a very powerful villain. But the manner in which Rajmouli has think about it & executed the same deserves kudos.

The professional manner in which the director has gone about the fantasy idea like this is what the movie click with even the hardened of critics. In the era in which movies of even the most powerful of heroes are criticized & rejected for lack of logic & over the top action sequences , everyone end up rooting for the house fly as it takes Sudeep to task albeit with extra dose of humor but nonetheless with logic in place.

First half is good especially the last 30 minutes once the fly makes its entry. Romantic episode is average not that interesting with banal situations & dialogs. But once the fly makes it entry & up to the interval block makes for one of the most engrossing sequence in recent times. The second half however becomes more kiddish with ridiculousness brought into the forefront in the form of fly getting a goggle , mask & doing weight training...sigh!! However movie gather steam in the last 15 minutes & ends with a bang.

Sudeep as the powerful antagonist has done a decent job. Notwithstanding his over the top yelling in the second half the manner in which he effortlessly bring in evilness into his demeanor is excellent. Naani has nothing much to do. Samantha looks pretty ordinary in most of the scenes though her acting skills have improved.

Santhanam makes a "guest " appearance but that one scene where he misunderstands Samantha is in love with him is damn hilarious.

"Crazy" Mohan seem to have lost his touch. Except for the sequence in the end in which he comes no where does one feel the "Crazy " trademark.

Technically the movie is good. VFX is okayish. In some sequence they are very good & in many other bit ordinary. K.K.Senthil Kumar's cinematography is good but not up to his "Magadheera" standards (more to do with budgetary constraints I believe)

M.M.Keeravani's music & background score are pretty much routine.

On the whole , "Naan ee" is yet another example of why S.S.Rajamouli is considered by many as the master entertainer in the south Indian movie circles. Go for it with a childish enthusiasm & mind , you would sure enjoy it.

    Bottomline : Buzzing
  • Beginning with few strong words, if you are an Indian and consider the Hindi Cinema the only worthy representative of our Industry in the world over then you are seriously unaware and utterly wrong because you still haven't watched some "mind blowing" and "creatively shattering" stuff being made in the South from decades.

Beginning my praises for this Indian masterpiece called EEGA (Makkhi in Hindi), I would personally recommend watching it in its original language as the process of dubbing extracts many things out of a film unintentionally. EEGA can easily be included in the list of films which can be seen in their original language without any hesitation at all, despite of the fact that you will not understand even a single word spoken in the entire film. But in case you are not willing to watch it in Telugu, then essentially watch it now in Hindi as the film will delightfully open some new enlightening doors for all the die-hard movie lovers in India, introducing them to the enjoyable world of cinema being made in the southern part of our country, deserving much more praises than being currently showered upon.

Perhaps, releasing the dubbed version of EEGA was a right decision by its makers too since this kind of gigantic movie strictly cannot be re- made again and it will be a purely silly decision if a person even thinks of trying it again in order to give some better results. The film features such innovative & incomparable graphical animations which have never been used before in Indian Cinema, far ahead than the ones featured in some recent Hindi films.

Returning to the film itself, honestly it doesn't need a review at all but only deserves a write-up to inform the hungry viewers that if you are really interested in seeing something exceptionally made in our own country then you got to see EEGA/ MAKKHI at the earliest and that's it. However for friends who would still like to know more about it, for them its based on a plot which you will not like to believe easily. But director Rajamouli will make you believe in it through his highly convincing execution in those two outstanding hours and you will feel like having watched something extraordinary as never before.

The film pushes the envelope of Cinematic Entertainment in India further and following are my questions in support of this statement in order to make it a more entertaining read.

Can you ever think of a hero being reincarnated in the world again in the form of a Eega/Makkhi/Fly to take his revenge?

Can you think of an animated fly giving a great performance along with doing comedy and some outstanding action scenes to get its mission complete?

Can you ever think of falling in love with a Eega/Makkhi/Fly enacting on screen?

Can you ever think, that you will cheer for a Eega/Makkhi/Fly in the theater, getting out of the way of a speeding bullet just like Salman Khan or Akshay Kumar does in their action movies?

No, probably you won't even think of witnessing any such acts on the Indian screen, which director S.S. Rajamouli unbelievably brings in for you in his mega venture EEGA. Particularly, if you are a fan of animation films featuring many real life characters too, then do watch it essentially by taking a leave from your office or business.

Having said that, its quite possible that for a certain section of viewers it may turn out be highly unbelievable, crossing the limit of imagination and ridiculous. But for friends thinking on that terms, I would like to say that EEGA is a perfect example of how a person can have the blessing of not only thinking out of the box but also possessing the exceptional unbelievable talent to perfectly execute his irrational thinking in an incomparable manner, making it highly entertaining and convincing.

Regarding the argument over the inspiration factor here, references can also be drawn from similar subject in FLUKE (1995) and COCKROACH (2010), but still they are not a thriller or a revenge drama with such magnificent special effects as depicted by Rajamouli in his latest flick. Hence EEGA does enjoy its own distinct position among the top films made in this particular genre in the entire globe without any question.

Well supported by a pumping background score, its an exciting roller coaster ride with no predictable turns or any usual glitches. Musically it has few catchy songs composed by M.M. Kreem which put the movie on a soft mode as it begins. But once the action gets started, you don't really mind watching anything else and get involved with EEGA instantly. Cinematography along with some brilliantly conceived animation offers you something never seen before on Indian screen till date and this should give you enough indication to watch it as soon as possible.

Its not an easy task to act in a film which mainly depends upon an animated character, found no-where around when the scenes are being shot (as they are all added at a later stage). Hence the entire cast surely deserves a special mention here for acting naturally just imagining the proceedings as per the instructions given by their visionary director. And for that I would really like to applaud the visible efforts made by Sudeep, who never makes you feel that he is actually reacting to literally nothing.

To put it more bluntly, EEGA is an Indian film which will even make the Western producer-directors sit back, take notice and ask that, Who's this person in India making such kind of films so beautifully?

So Kudos to the creative director SSR and hats off to both his imagination and execution which arguably is beyond comparison with any other director at present in the entire Indian Film Industry.
  • What starts out as a love story quickly escalates into jealousy and murder. The protagonist is murdered in cold blood by the cartoonishly evil villain.

And then he is reincarnated as a housefly (eega is Telugu for fly), and sets out to exact revenge and to protect his lost love from the villain's clutches. Yes, it's a story about a vengeful spirit reincarnated as a housefly. Let me be clear here - it's a regular housefly, not a superhousefly or something. Well, a housefly with human intelligence and past memories, so super to an extent... but still a housefly that can be zapped by a bug zapper.

It is a well made movie, given the premise. Good effects, nice sequences... enjoyable overall. But it's still over-the-top in-your-face action, typical Telugu masala fare.

The plot gets thicker once the fly partners with his ex-beloved, who happens to be a miniature artist, who helps him train himself physically and makes protective gear for him to wear. No kidding. Ridiculous? Yes, but you would have stopped caring about realism and sense long time before this happens.

It's a good story - given the premise. It's well made - given the premise. It's entertaining - given the premise. The premise itself is quite novel and groundbreaking, but it's difficult to take it seriously when you remember that it's all about a reincarnated housefly executing a planned revenge on his killer using stealth tactics and miniature weaponry.

Don't get me wrong - I enjoyed the movie immensely. It's great to see people coming out with experimental stuff like this. And it delivers what it promises.
  • Warning: Spoilers
I went to Eega Movie with lots expectations....the story starts with plain feel good love story between Nani and Samantha ...The chemistry between both protagonist carried very well for starting 15 minutes of the movie every one who watches it get connected to the to one love story ...it is simply magically..

They are main scenes in the movie which are not justified by the director 1)They Villain(Sudeep) kills the hero(Nani) in 17th minute movie...they are not many scenes shown to get convinced his angry as much that he will kill Nani for seeing once with Samantha...

2)The Kind of Scenes the director made by Eega(housefly) ...

Even in the wildest of wildest dreams his will never happen because of Eega They will be Traffic Jam. They will be Car accident. They locker full of money burnt. They Tantra(Wizard) will be killed with suffocation locked in room. They housefly writing "I will kill you" The housefly understand Samantha language. The house getting burnt.

"BELIEVE ME ALL BECAUSE OF SMALL HOUSEFLY" 3)The scenes that made feel like i came to kids movie and they very Funny. When the movie came to second half the story lost all the gripping factor and the movie seem to be funny and childish The Housefly performing Gymnastic stunt and performing gym The Villain dies by getting shot by small barrel with bit of gun powder. The actress creating miniature gym set and Mask to the Housefly.

They many other scenes ALL THE ABOVE SCENES MADE ME REMIND "SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS" 4)Even the technology used in the good the movie failed in giving gripping screenplay..the story seem to be fallen down with entry of housefly ...

5)" The director used simple trick of just substituting "housefly" under the place of ghost and made trailer attractive by adding Quotes "the ultimate revenge story"......and keeping rest of the screenplay common like all the ghost movies i watched from the childhood....." The actor Nani justified his role . The movie disappointing with it uninspiring screenplay..

The only justification director gives about the all the question that it is story told to a small kid..... which sounded very funny....

    my rating 4/10
  • I learnt about this movie when its trailer came out, and I really wanted to watch it. But my family is very conservative and they didn't allow me to go to the theatres to watch movies as a kid because they believed I will get spoilt easily. So when this movie came on TV and I was really excited to watch it, my friend told me to watch it as he had seen it on torrent and really liked it. He had threatened me to watch every scene, and I'm really glad I did. Although it's not the kind of a movie that you will take too seriously, Eega does manage to invoke you and enjoy the movie.

The story of this movie is absolutely gripping. Jani (I hope I wrote the spelling correctly) is a guy who really likes a girl named Bindu, who is a micro artist. But a rich businessman Sudeep (played by Sudeep himself) also has his eyes on her, and so he decides to kill Jani. Jani gets reborn as a fly, who slowly remembers what happened to him. And so he decides to take revenge from Sudeep and constantly attacks him. But finally Sudeep takes his revenge from Jani, although it doesn't go as well as planned.

The CGI of this movie is quite decent. Although it isn't on the same level as Baahubali for example (both the movies are made by SS Rajamouli, who could have guessed?), but it is way better than most Bollywood movies considering its low budget. Normally I'm not used to seeing something new in Tollywood films (not saying that in a bad way), so this movie was obviously a surprise for me. The comedy scenes are absolutely hilarious. Some violent parts are a little too graphic and that's what makes this look so cool. The actors can make you laugh, cry, angry - anything with just the acting.

The only thing I didn't like about the movie is the CGI. Jani looks nothing like a fly. And his body proportions keep changing. In a song he is shown to lift an earbud as a weight. Tell me, how big is a fly compared to an earbud? Forget trying to lift it, a fly can't even scale it! Some of the dialogues were also too bad, but I'm gonna cut some slack since I watched it in Hindi. The songs were also a bit too bad especially the theme song, and in the credits scene where Jani is mimicking all the Bollywood actors is also very cringy.

Eega is a kind of a movie you won't expect from an industry that doesn't make but rather manufactures films, and that's what makes it so unique. If it was a Hollywood movie I might have questioned its superiority. It is a movie you'd definitely want to watch with your whole family. It is so memorable that I watched it nine years ago and I still remember every single detail. I hadn't watched many movies back then so I'm not sure if you will also like it as much as I did. But I'd definitely say you should go for it.
  • This film is testement of what a artist can do. truly a brilliant film.
