3 Body Problem received mixed reviews, with some praising it as one of the best sci-fi shows while others found it lacking in substance. Game of Thrones creators and a talented cast contribute to the series' potential success, but some critics question the script and storytelling. The series has divided critics due to attempts to globalize a Chinese story and rushed exploration of complex themes, making it a divisive show.
Netflix has had mixed results adapting beloved science-fiction stories into live-action series. Shows like Alice in Borderland, The Umbrella Academy, and Altered Carbon (Season 1) have been massive hits for the streaming service, while iBoy and Altered Carbon's second season were lambasted by critics and audiences. However, critics can't make up their minds on Netflix's newest sci-fi series, 3 Body Problem, making it one of the streamer's most divisive shows to date.

Despite Netflix's history of canceling sci-fi shows early, 3 Body Problem has potential with an established fanbase and a $160 million budget. The show's success will depend on critical and audience reception, as well as the complex science fiction elements it aims to capture from the source material. While 3 Body Problem may face challenges in fully exploring its story, its visual appeal and established following give it a better chance at success than past Netflix sci-fi shows.
While it is exciting that Netflix's most ambitious sci-fi project is about to premiere, it is hard not to be worried about its future considering the streamer's cancelation record. When it comes to science fiction, Netflix has a decent collection of shows and movies that have performed well both critically and commercially. Production banner FlipNarrative, set up by Waleed Zuaiter — the BAFTA-nominated star of “Baghdad Central” and “Gangs of London” and Oscar-nominated producer of “Omar” — has optioned the rights to Shannon Chakraborty’s latest novel “The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi,” with plans to develop it into a multi-season series and gaming platform.
The book — the first in a trilogy being published by Harper Voyager — is a swashbuckling high seas adventure following a notorious Muslim pirate captain who has survived backstabbing rogues, vengeful merchant princes, several husbands and an actual demon before retiring to a life of piety. That is until she and her crew are forced into one last adventure — embarking on a mission across the Indian Ocean battling a supernatural world they never knew existed.

Apple TV leads in sci-fi content but Netflix's 3 Body Problem may rival its success with high concept storytelling and visual appeal. Despite Apple TV's success with shows like For All Mankind, Netflix's risk with 3 Body Problem's ambitious scope may pay off well. The non-linear storyline of 3 Body Problem and complex scientific concepts could elevate Netflix as a top destination for quality sci-fi.
Apple TV may currently be dominating the sci-fi space by jabbing away at all competition with its compelling television outings in the genre, but Netflix's upcoming adaptation might drop the perfect counter against the streamer. Despite starting with a relatively small catalog of shows and movies, Apple TV has gradually risen in the streaming ranks by establishing itself as the leader of some specific genres. One of these genres is science fiction, in which Apple TV seems to offer something for everyone.

The first season of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" has some major gems, perhaps none more so than "Out of Sight, Out of Mind." SAG Award-winner Clea DuVall stars in the episode as a teen girl who is so shy and overlooked by her classmates that she literally turns invisible, causing her to lash out violently.
DuVall's character, Marcie Ross, was named after Marcy Ross, a real-life woman who worked on the "Buffy" set as an assistant to Gail Berman, a producer who helped develop the WB series and has since gone on to produce the Oscar-nominated mega-hit "Elvis." Berman also produced the spin-off series "Angel" and continues to work in television today (most recently on the first season of Netflix's super-successful "Addams Family" series "Wednesday").

The fourth installment of HBO’s True Detective series is poised to be the spookiest yet. Set in the remote town of Ennis, Alaska, Night Country follows former partners Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro as they investigate the disappearance of eight researchers from a remote facility. The pair have a tense past, not only with each other, but with others in their small town.
True Detective: Night Country marks Jodie Foster’s first television appearance since the ’70s – not counting her handful of voiceover and narration guest roles in the ’90s and early ’00s – though certainly not her first time starring in a thriller. Foster is joined by a number of other talented actors, including Kali Reis, Fiona Shaw, and Christopher Eccleston.

"They Cloned Tyrone" is a critically acclaimed Netflix sci-fi film that offers a unique take on the genre. The movie shares narrative and thematic similarities with the canceled Netflix franchise, "Altered Carbon". The ending of "They Cloned Tyrone" sets up the potential for a larger sci-fi franchise, expanding the story and exploring new characters and neighborhoods.
One 2023 sci-fi movie was not only the best offering of the genre on Netflix but also a potential replacement for a 4-year-old canceled franchise. A myriad of science fiction movies premiered in 2023. While some, like Wes Anderson's Asteroid City, brought something completely novel to the genre, others, like Brian Duffield's No One Will Save You, gave familiar sci-fi tropes a new spin. There were also sequels and franchise films like Spider-man: Across the Spider-Verse and Godzilla Minus One that left their mark with their spectacular visuals and rich narratives.

Joel Kinnaman reflects on his character's death in The Suicide Squad and expresses appreciation for the impactful scene. The actor hints at a possible return to the DC Universe as a villainous character in the future. The Dcu has already confirmed the return of past Dceu actors.
Joel Kinnaman remembers his The Suicide Squad death and comments on his possible future in the new DC Universe. The actor played Rick Flag in both Suicide Squad movies in the Dceu, with Peacemaker killing him in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad. While Flag's death rules out a return for the character in the new Dcu, as John Cena's Peacemaker will continue with his story presumably intact for season 2 of his series, Kinnaman could return as another character.
Speaking on The Post-Credit Podcast, Kinnaman opened up about Flag's The Suicide Squad death and revealed how he could return in a new role in the upcoming Dcu.

"Mute," directed by Duncan Jones, was released in 2018 but failed to impress both critics and audiences, earning low scores on Rotten Tomatoes. The film's visuals are stunning, but its narrative lacks substance, and comparisons to "Blade Runner" only highlighted its shortcomings. While Netflix's sci-fi TV shows have been highly acclaimed, their original sci-fi movies often disappoint, with "Mute" being one of many panned by critics.
In 2018, Netflix released its own sci-fi noir in the mold of Blade Runner entitled Mute, but unlike Ridley Scott’s futuristic masterpiece, it was panned by both critics and audiences. Directed by David Bowie’s son Duncan Jones, Mute revolves around a bartender searching for the missing love of his life in Berlin in 2035. Jones had proven himself as a formidable sci-fi filmmaker with 2009’s Moon, and the cast includes such stars as Alexander Skarsgård, Paul Rudd, and Justin Theroux, but Mute was a resounding failure.

Sci-fi movies offer limitless creative possibilities and can visually awe audiences, as demonstrated by the success of Dune. This article contains discussions/references to slavery Sci-fi movies let filmmakers make truly creative movies by thinking outside the bounds of our time and societies, and there are plenty more ground-breaking stories waiting on bookshelves for a chance to be explored on screen. The recent success of Denis Villeneuve's 2021 Dune, an adaptation of Frank Herbert's space epic, shows that even the most complex and lore-heavy sci-fi books can be translated well on screen, and sci-fi settings make for particularly awe-inspiring visuals. Although 2022 saw a sci-fi slump, there are many books that could...

The city of Colonia is home to a rising population of murderers looking to cause all manner of macabre carnage in the new 10-issue comic book series Kill More. Written by Scott Bryan Wilson with artwork by Max Alan Fuchs, the first issue of Kill More will be released on September 13th from Idw Originals, and as a special treat for Daily Dead readers, we have an exclusive look at Fuchs' artwork that offers eerie insights into the eclectic killers showcased in the new series, including development art featuring Obsideo, Lady Facesmasher, and The Giraffe.
Writer Scott Bryan Wilson discussed the malevolent murderers lurking within the pages of Kill More:
"Remember when you were in school and the teacher would have to leave the room for a minute? Immediately, the worst kids would take advantage and turn into monsters—almost on a primal instinct for defying and flagrantly disregarding the established classroom rules and norms.

Sympathy for the Devil is the 2023 psychological horror movie from Yuval Adler, and the cast — led by Nicolas Cage — is small but extremely promising. The new horror movie continues Nicolas Cage's 2020's streak of solid roles, as Sympathy for the Devil is seemingly yet another vehicle for the celebrated actor to act his most uncaged. The cast and crew have remained tight-lipped about the narrative, but the basic story of Sympathy for the Devil is about a mysterious passenger who holds a man at gunpoint and forces him to drive into the night.
Not much was known about Sympathy for the Devil prior to release, and even the trailers kept the plot of the movie vague, especially when it comes to the characters' motivations (as they're best enjoyed spoiler-free). However, that's what has made the movie so appealing, especially thanks to the actors playing the characters. The movie is led...

Twisted Metal was originally announced to an optimistic, if not cautious, response from streaming audiences. Now that the full trailer for Peacock's action series is out, we have a better idea of what to expect from this long-awaited video game adaptation. Frankly, it's a huge improvement over the initial teaser: plenty of grim violence, plenty of cars on screen, and a palpable amount of grim humor laced between bursts of gunfire and diesel-fueled explosions paint a fun picture of what's to come. But there's something else to consider when we're talking about the hype for this high-octane car-combat series.
Anthony Mackie, the front-and-center lead for Twisted Metal, may raise some eyebrows if you're unfamiliar with his past work. Despite leading a popular Disney+ miniseries and involving himself in the MCU, Mackie himself has rarely had the opportunity to lead a scripted series.

Apple TV’s Silo is quickly becoming one of the most popular (if not The most popular) TV series on the streaming service. For those of you who might be stuck in the gutter, Silo is a dystopian sci-fi drama that takes place in a ruined and toxic future. A community resides in a huge underground silo that goes hundreds and hundreds of stories deep in the Earth’s surface. In this silo, the people in the community live in a society of rules and regulations that are meant to protect them.
From that description, Silo doesn’t seem too out of place compared to other post-apocalyptic sci-fi titles like Altered Carbon or Snowpiercer. Yet it has risen in popularity and has received positive feedback from both critics and audiences. Sci-fi shows do not always capture an audience the way the genre does in film. So, what makes this drama...

Though it's unclear where the movie sits in its development, Gal Gadot is sharing her excitement about the Cleopatra movie and bringing justice to its main historical figure. Gadot signed on to produce and star the latest biographical epic for the Egyptian queen in late 2020, with the initial plan to reunite with Wonder Woman's Patty Jenkins directing. Jenkins eventually shifted to solely a producer role to focus on future projects, leading to The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's Kari Skogland signing on to direct.
During a recent interview with Vogue Hong Kong for their July issue cover story, Gal Gadot offered some insight on the long-gestating and controversial Cleopatra movie. The actor and producer shared her excitement for getting to explore the historical figure, namely in bringing justice to the false narratives surrounding her. Check out what Gadot shared below:

2023 is Nicolas Cage’s year of horror movies, as he's already played Count Dracula in Renfield and will star in the upcoming Sympathy for the Devil. While Renfield delved into supernatural elements, Sympathy for the Devil focuses on psychological horror with Cage as an ominous carjacker who bears the actor's trademark over-the-top mannerisms. The movie is helmed by Israeli director Yuval Adler whose previous work includes the internationally co-produced thriller The Operative and the American thriller drama The Secrets We Keep. Newcomer Luke Paradise pens the screenplay for Sympathy for the Devil, which promises to be a roller coaster ride full of road movie genre tropes and bleak humor.
With the potential to offer one of Cage's wildest movie performances, Sympathy for the Devil’s major selling point is its leading star. But beyond the casting, the movie also offers an atmospheric, nerve-inducing journey with its premise of a carjacking...

After donning vampire fangs in the recent audience-favorite Renfield, Nicolas Cage is back in yet another villainous role. Despite a somewhat notorious reputation for appearing in just about any movie you can think of — so much so that they even made a movie addressing it — Nicolas Cage isn't really known for phoning anything in. If he's in a film, you can expect him to give it his all, for better or worse. Thankfully, in Sympathy for the Devil, Cage's ability to go completely over the top may benefit this tense thriller.

Shows like Mr. Robot gained a cult following because they push the envelope when telling stories that are more than often off the beaten path. While they might not have the best viewership ratings, the shows end up winning awards and end up praised by fans long after the more popular shows have come and gone. Mr. Robot starred Rami Malek in his breakout role as Elliot Alderson, a cybersecurity engineer who speaks to a man only he can see and hear, the titular Mr. Robot (Christian Slater). As the show wore on, it turned out nothing was what it seemed and the twists and turns were smart and frustrating at turns.
Mr. Robot continues to be a popular show, years after it aired its series finale aired in 2019. This was a show that was a slow-burn mystery, with cutting-edge directing and effects, top-notch acting, and a great story from start to finish.

There might still be hope for Altered Carbon season 3, according to showrunner and writer Alison Schapker. Based on the novel of the same name by Richard K. Morgan, the cyberpunk show first debuted on the streaming platform on February 2018, and was eventually canceled by Netflix after Altered Carbon season 2. Following the character of dead prisoner and war vet Takeshi Kovacs, who, after 250 years, returns to life in a new body and is offered freedom by helping a titan of industry solve his own (future) murder, the show explores themes of technology, human-machine interface, gender identity, cyberspace, paranoia, power, and corruption.
Schapker got her first big break working with J.J. Abrams as a staff writer on hit ABC show Alias, before moving on to work on a slew of successful TV shows, including Charmed, Lost, and sci-fi show Fringe. In July 2018, Schapker joined Altered Carbon as an executive producer and co-showrunner,...

After enjoying two seasons of the mainline story and a standalone anime spinoff, fans are still waiting for Altered Carbon season 3. Upon its initial release on Netflix, Altered Carbon was praised by critics for its complex themes and gorgeous visual style evoking Blade Runner and Ghost in the Shell. While it wasn’t a hit of Stranger Things or Bridgerton proportions, Altered Carbon earned a limited but loyal fan following. AFC Richmond brings him in to try to keep the team from getting relegated - and to one-up West Ham, owned by the villainous Rupert (Anthony Head) and coached by Nate (Nick Mohammed). But what fans might not know is that Osinski is married to an actor who's making splashes on an Apple TV+ series of her own: Dichen Lachman, who plays Ms. Casey on the hit series "Severance." On "Severance," Lachman's Ms. Casey is a mysterious employee at Lumon Industries who, fans learn in the season finale, is tied to a deep secret the company is keeping from Mark S (Adam Scott).
Osinski and Lachman married in 2015 and share a daughter born that same year. Both have been working actors for a long time.

This article contains John Wick: Chapter 4 spoilers.
Chad Stahelski’s filmmaking career began 30 years ago when he performed some stunts for a direct-to-video ninja flick called Brain Smasher… A Love Story starring Andrew Dice Clay. Some 18 films later, and Stahelski had worked his way up the stunt-person ladder to serve as the stunt double for Neo, aka Mr. Keanu Reeves himself, in The Matrix. It was the beginning a beautiful friendship. He continued to work with Reeves for the second and third Matrix installments, rising to martial arts stunt choreographer’s chair, and then the two reunited for Constantine in 2005. It was a fruitful collaborative relationship, however it would become something else entirely when less than a decade later they partnered again, now as director and star, for Stahelski’s directorial debut, John Wick (2014).
According to Stahelski, neither he nor Reeves thought John Wick would become what it is today.

The world of "Planet of the Apes" continues to grow, and the latest film has just cast Dichen Lachman in an undisclosed role, per The Hollywood Reporter. These days Lachman is most recognizable for her turn as the mysterious corporate counselor Ms. Casey on the excellent Apple TV+ series "Severance," but she's been a stand-out in sci-fi projects in particular for years now, with memorable turns in "The 100," "Dollhouse," "Altered Carbon," and more. She also appeared in last year's blockbuster "Jurassic World Dominion."
While Lachman's part in the story is still under wraps, THR's report also includes some plot details for "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes," and the story frankly sounds pretty wild. The follow-up to 2017's "War For The Planet of the Apes" will take place years after the third film in the new franchise and bring viewers to a version of the world that sounds...
