The title "2011 AVN Awards Show" is fairly telling here because you can read the year when this was made as well as what kind of event to expect. This is basically the adult film Oscars and this edition is already almost a decade old now, maybe more than a decade depending on when you read this review. The director is Gary Miller and he really worked on so many of these award shows that you cann call him a legend almost by now. He is also one of the many writers in charge here. Another writer is Lisa Lampanelli and she is also the host, although she does not have too much screen time. But this way they followed the tradition to have comedians host this event. I saw others in the past doing a decent job. I cannot say the same about her. It was half her, half her material that really left me unimpressed and kinda glad she was not featured too frequently here. It was just really unfunny most of the time and I fully blame her because like I said she was a writer herself and definitely in charge of her stand-up routine. I don'd mind at all that is was pretty juicy and explicit with dirty jokes because that's what you expect and get at the AVN Awards. Always has been that way, always will be. But other comedians did a far better job and honestly she is not doing a favor to female comedians who are having a hard enough time anyway. Back then and today. For example her talk about Asians was just really embarrassing honestly. No idea why she did that. I am literally the last person in the room who screams "Racism", but this was definitely crossing the line. And some slightly better lines like the Ellen DeGeneres reference can't make up for that. She was one of the weakest aspects of the show. Admittedly, everything else was really not better. I know they want these films to be taken serious, but it is difficult if they make so many parodies and apparently the non-parodies are even worse, if they make sequences in which adult film actors talk about their non-adult film careers and actually they only had seconds in these other movies, if they keep lifting their skirts and dresses during these events and we see their naked breasts. I mean we have seen them anyway or well I haven't, but the target audience for this show has.

Still, there were somewhat funny moments here and there like the scenes they show from the Glee parody that scored several nominations and also won at least one category, or the scenes from the Avatar parody that honestly looked like Avatar in "I am a Celebrity. Get me out of here.." And maybe 2 or 3 other moments. But yeah it is comedy and that is alright, still I hoped they could be better adult films. Maybe not. Or maybe things are better now I am not sure as it's been almost a decade already like I said, but yeah I guess it's easier to sell movies when they got that blockbuster reference. Also I found it unintentionally funny how the category announcer sounded so serious really as if this was an authentic awards show. Well it kinda is, but you know what I mean. What else? Oh yeah there was a guy who received the lifetime achievement award I believe and he received standing ovations because he was acquitted not too long ago and that made me curious enough to read about the case where he was on trial because he did not inform his fellow actress about being HIV-positive, but they had no intercourse. Okay let's not go into detail there. By the way this aired in April 2011, but it was recorded already exactly 3 months earlier, which shows you that really there was not too much interest in seeing this show. Sadly? I am not sure. Judging from the quality, I am not surprised. As for the people featured in here, I knew only a handful. Of course, Ron Jeremy everybody has somewhat heard of and then maybe Allie Haze and Sasha Grey, but that was pretty much it I'd say. Like I wrote earlier, if it had been funny at least, then I could have given it two stars more like other editions that had some entertainment potential, but this one here was really bland, which was even more shocking with so many people in charge of the script. Talk about too many cooks spoiling the broth. Oh yes, we also get these interviews with the winners immediately after which is typical for the AVN Awards and also really easy too as they had 3 months time to cut it. But yeah, I just ended up not caring for this at all eventually and even checking out the winner's list halfway into the show (to see who the acquitted guy was) did nothing for me in terms of ruining it because I saw who'd win. I just didn't care one bit. I think one of the big winners here was Batman (or the parody Buttman) and the award recipient's comment that Superman is next sounded more like a threat really. I still wondered what the one female presenter of the category said towards him, something about Glee it sounded. Overall, slightly under 90 very forgettable minutes. Failure territory. Keep your distance. I don't know if the "Thanks for coming!" at the end was intended to have a double meaning or if it was just a Freudian slip, but honestly I wished I had never knocked on that door.
