Featured review
There's Something in the Barn is a cute and moderately violent family holiday film. A family from America moves to Norway for a fresh start on life. This doesn't make the adolescent daughter happy, or bond better with her step-mom. The Tween son is a little left out by the move. That is until the son finds a elf in the barn.
What progresses is a "culture clash" of lame jokes about Americans having guns as solutions, and Norwegians addressing all problems with peace talks. Oh, and lutefish makes a show for some retching humor.
Much of the problem lies with the father who seems inept and oblivious to the situation. Step-mom then takes extra care to manage the kids, causing more tension. And no one believes the son with his friend the elf. So when the father bumbles yet another thing that pisses off the elf, an all out raid occurs by the elves to finish off the humans.
Merry Chritmas!
And that's about it. If you're 8-10, this is kind of fun and has enough blood to make it cool without it going too far over the top. But, don't expect much in the way of anything serious, special, or inventive. It's a pretty tired plot repetition of many other films, with a clueless father and a smart kid. And wild supernatural beings that get out of hand.
