The Acorn TV exclusive cozy mystery series Darby and Joan returned for its long-awaited second season in late 2024, but will the show get a third season soon? “Gavin & Stacey” star Laura Aikman took her NDA so seriously she even kept her appearance in the 90-minute special a secret from her own family.
Aikman, who plays the widely-disliked Sonia in the cult BBC series, posted a video of herself watching “Gavin & Stacey: The Finale” on Christmas Day with her family, who appeared to have no idea she was about to make an appearance on screen. In the scene, James Corden, who co-created and stars in the series, is shown into a room to meet his “bride-to-be,” with the audience led to assume it’s his on-again-off-again partner Nessa (fellow co-creator Ruth Jones). Instead, it’s Sonia.
In the video Aikman showed her family screaming with surprise as they watched the scene, with Aikman laughing while a woman who appears to be her mother shouts “Oh my God… you never told me!”
Aikman captioned the video: “I take an NDA very seriously.

The Golden Bachelorette ended with Chock Chapple laying it all on the line for Joan Vassos, and now the two are engaged. Throughout the season, 60-year-old Chock openly expressed his devotion to 61-year-old Joan, and he made it clear that he wouldn't settle for anything less than her whole heart. From the moment he stepped out of the limousine on night one of the Bachelor spin-off, he knew that Joan was the woman for him, and he did his best to prove it to her every day.
Chock's devotion brings to mind the Abba song "Lay All Your Love On Me." The lyrics, "Don't go sharing your devotion, Lay all your love on me," could have been written by Chock for Joan. Throughout The Golden Bachelorette season 1, nothing could detract Chock from his pursuit of Joan. She's certainly a very lucky woman to have inspired such devotion in a great guy like Chock,...

The Golden Bachelorette stars Joan Vassos and Chock Chapple have found love on the "senior" spin-off of the popular franchise, but they may split up at some point. Chock grabbed Joan's attention through the season’s introductions with his signature Chock-a-Noodle soup. Joan, wooed by his charm and "delicious" soup, invited him on the season's first one-on-one date. This Disneyland date confirmed their chemistry and Chock quickly established himself as a strong competitor.
By the finale of The Golden Bachelorette season 1, Joan’s winner became abundantly clear. Throughout their journey, the pair bonded over similar perspectives, values, and romantic histories. Joan ultimately chose Chock as her forever partner and Chock proposed. The pair have been together ever since. While they seem like one of the strongest couples born from the franchise, there appears to be some trouble in paradise.

The ITV miniseries Joan stars the eponymous Joan Hannington, a prolific jewel thief in London during the 1980s, and the six-episode show hews pretty closely to the real story. Starring Sophie Turner in one of her biggest roles since Game of Thrones, Joan premiered on September 29, 2024, adapting Hannington's 2002 memoir, I Am What I Am: The True Story of Britain's Most Notorious Jewel Thief. With an 80% on Rotten Tomatoes, Joan has been roundly celebrated by critics, with particular praise going towards Turner's performance.

The Australian murder mystery series Darby and Joan was a big hit during its first season, and now the Acorn TV original will return for season 2. The series centers on a widowed former nurse who traverses the Australian countryside with a retired detective in search of answers regarding her late husband's death. Fitting squarely in the category of a cozy murder mystery, Darby and Joan is unique because it focuses on the depth of the characters and uses its mystery framework as a backdrop to explore Joan and her personal journey.
Darby and Joan is not unlike the multitude of other murder mystery programs available on Acorn TV, but the British-American streamer found something clever and original by transporting the characters to the Australian Outback. The Golden Bachelorette's Joan Vassos and Chock Chapple got engaged at the end of the season, but some of their children may not be excited about the relationship. 61-year-old Joan and 60-year-old Chock had lived full lives before meeting and falling in love. Joan was married to John Chapple, with whom she had four children, for 32 years until he passed away in 2021. Chock was married to Heather Chapple, with whom he had two children, for 12 years until they divorced. Chock's children are college-aged, while Joan's are adults with their own families.
After failing to win 72-year-old Gerry Turner's heart during The Golden Bachelor season 1, Joan was cast as The Golden Bachelorette. After a season of dating 24 single Golden men, Joan gave her final rose to Chock, and, in turn, he gave her a sparkling diamond engagement ring. After getting engaged, the couple focused on combining their lives, which included bringing their families together.

The Golden Bachelorette season 1's Joan Vassos could get cold feet about marrying Chock Chapple, and she may end up being a "runaway bride." It would be a disappointing end to her journey, which started long before the 61-year-old private school administrator was cast as The Bachelor spin-off's first female lead. She never expected to find herself dating again at her age, let alone dating dozens of single men, but life doesn't always go as expected. Joan was married to John Vassos for 32 years, and they had four children together before he died in 2021.
Joan loved her late husband dearly, and, with their four children grown up and out of the house, she found herself all alone. She agreed to appear as a contestant on The Golden Bachelor season 1, which was when Joan made her television debut. Though she liked 72-year-old Gerry Turner, her daughter gave birth, so Joan left the season early.

Here comes the bride… on national television?
That’s the question, folks.
Just a few days ago, Joan Vassos ended her run as The Golden Bachelorette by getting engaged to Chock Chapple.
Yes, that’s his real name.

“I never in a million years thought I’d feel love like this again,” said Vassos after Chock proposed in Bora Bora on the November 13 finale of the series.
Where do things stand now between the couple?
So far, so surprisingly good, it seems, as Joan and Chock remain together and remain dedicated to their future — something most twosomes cannot say after getting engaged on any version of this franchise.
According to the pair, they have every intention of getting married.
Just not too soon, at least.

Prime Video's "Tomb Raider" series has seemingly found its Lara Croft in "Game of Thrones" veteran Sophie Turner, according to a report from Deadline.
At the end of October, the same outlet released an initial exclusive saying that Turner was a top choice to play the titular tomb raider alongside Lucy Boynton, with Emma Corrin ("The Crown") and Mackenzie Davis ("Station Eleven") also potentially in the running. Now, it seems as if the show, which is being spearheaded by "Fleabag" creator and star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, may have settled on its lead actor.
If this comes to fruition, Turner certainly has big shoes to fill — she would join Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander as the only other two performers to play Lara Croft in live-action. It's important to make this abundantly clear: the report says that Turner is "in negotiations," so this bit of casting still isn't official just yet. I...

From Westeros to some of the most exotic and dangerous catacombs in the world, Amazon MGM’s “Tomb Raider” series has found its Lara Croft.
“Game of Thrones” star Sophie Turner is in talks to play Lara Croft in Amazon MGM’s live-action “Tomb Raider” series, according to multiple reports. The series is being created by “Fleabag” star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and it would be the first time the video game character would be adapted as a live-action series.
Amazon MGM declined to comment. Reps for Turner declined to comment.
Turner would follow in the footsteps of both Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, who played Croft in two separate film iterations, Jolie in films from 2001 and 2003, and Vikander in a film from 2018. The game franchise has also found new life on screen thanks to an animated series for Netflix, “Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.” That series, in which Hayley Atwell voices Lara Croft,...

The Golden Bachelorette season 1 is nearing its finale, and there are signs that Chock Chapple will break Joan Vassos' heart. 61-year-old Joan liked 60-year-old Chock from the moment they met, and she was able to overlook all of his red flags. It's especially distressing because Joan has been through so much over the last few years, and she truly deserves to find love. She was happily married to John Vassos, the love of her life, until he passed away in 2021 after 32 years of marriage and four children together.
Joan then appeared on The Golden Bachelor to date 72-year-old Gerry Turner, but had to leave early due to a family emergency. Just when Joan thought her Bachelor journey was over, she was cast as The Golden Bachelorette. On the opening night of the season, Joan greeted 24 single Golden men, including Chock, an insurance executive from Wichita, Kansas. Joan and Chock hit it off right away,...

The Golden Bachelorette starring Joan Vassos had some phenomenal men whom everyone fell in love with, but none of them should be the star of The Golden Bachelor because the show should cast an unknown in the role. Joan began her season with 24 amazing men, and has now narrowed them down to just two: Chock Chapple and Guy Gansert. Along the way, viewers met fan-favorite men such as Mark Anderson, Pascal Ibgui, Jordan Heller, Jonathan Rone, Keith Gordon, Dan Roemer, Gary Levingston, Jack Lencioni, and Charles Ling, hoping that any one of them might be the star of The Golden Bachelor season 2.

The Golden Bachelorette has unfolded in a rather unexpected way among reality TV dating shows, and the dynamics involving the male contestants are one major reason.
Pascal Ibgui was one of the standout contestants and a fan favorite, and his abrupt "self-elimination" in the third-to-last "Fantasy Suites" episode stunned both Joan and the audience.
Pascal wasn't just a fan favorite, either in our coverage of Wednesday's "Men's Tell All," we looked back at comments made by Pascal's roommate Greg Lassen.
Greg said he was "in love with half of the guys in the house," but had a special connection with Pascal:
"He's just such a cute guy and not like anybody I would've normally met. The first night we were having these conversations, and we stayed up really late.
"Of course, if I'm overly tired, that's when the snoring really happens, so yeah, I woke up to Pascal leaning over...

AMC Networks has acquired full control of BBC America, its joint venture with BBC Studios.
The U.S. media company has owned a 49.9% stake in the channel since 2014, which it purchased for $200 million in a deal with BBC Worldwide. With this new transaction, which closed Nov. 1, AMC Networks gains the remaining 50.1% of BBC America in exchange for $42 million in cash.
Per AMC Networks’ Q3 earnings results, which were released Friday, AMC Networks “now owns 100% of the BBC America business, with full operational control, and will continue to fully consolidate BBC America.”
Along with “Mad Men,” “The Walking Dead” and “Breaking Bad,” some of the shows AMC Networks is best known for are past BBC America hits and critical darlings, including “Killing Eve,” “Orphan Black” and “Doctor Who” (which now airs on Disney+).
AMC Networks says “future contractual programming commitments to BBC Studios would have been significantly reduced,” had the deal been closed by Sept.

Wednesday's penultimate episode of The Golden Bachelorette, "The Men Tell All," brought together all of Joan's "senior suitors" save for the remaining two Chock Chapple and Guy Gansert.
Last week's Golden Bachelorette featured the "final three," with Chock, Guy, and Pascal Ibgui traveling with Joan Vassos to Tahiti for "Fantasy Suites" dates.
From the outset, Joan's Fantasy Suites approach was going to be different, as the titular Golden Bachelorette didn't want to rush into physical intimacy with her remaining suitors.

"I said, I dont want a bed in the room. I want this to be known that this was really about emotional intimacy and about talking about the things you know before."

The effects of 2023’s dual actors and writers strikes are continuing to ripple through the industry globally.
U.K. public service broadcaster ITV, which broadcast shows this year including Sophie Turner-starrer “Joan” and “Mr Bates v the Post Office,” is the latest to fall victim, reporting an 8% drop in group revenue from £2.9 billion ($3.5 billion) to £2.7 billion ($ 3.8 billion) in its third quarter, which it partly blamed on the strikes affecting program schedules.
Revenue for its production arm, ITV Studios, was down 20% in Q3, from £1.5 billion £1.2 billion. According to the latest financial report, the strikes resulted in a delay of around £80 million of revenue from 2024 to 2025. The report also said the drop was down to “lower demand from free-to-air broadcasters in Europe in the short term.”

Wednesday's "Fantasy Suites" episode of The Golden Bachelorette took an unexpected turn when one of Joan's three then-remaining suitors Chock Chapple, Guy Gansert, and Pascal Ibgui "self-eliminated."
In the parlance of reality TV, "self-elimination" occurs when a contestant on any sort of competition show elects to leave it of their own accord, rather than being voted off or sent home in accordance with the "rules" of the franchise.
Self-eliminations are perhaps most associated with The Bachelor franchise, for fairly self-explanatory reasons as a show focused on "finding love" and entering into an ostensibly committed relationship, contestants are just as likely to lose interest as the lead.
In this case, Pascal self-eliminated, and Golden Bachelorette fans suspected that a very wedding-like bonding ceremony frightened him.
In a confessional from that episode, Pascal admitted:
"Talking about feeling emotion, I wasn't ready for that ... I appreciate the thought behind it, and I did...

The Golden Bachelorette star Joan Vassos may be heartbroken because of Pascal Ibguis decision to leave the series, but his clarity surrounding Chock Chapple could be worth listening to. Throughout the run of The Golden Bachelorette season 1, Joan has been getting to know a great group of guys, with a few minor exceptions. “Oderbruch,” the second series in a first-look TV deal between CBS Studios and Berlin-based Syrreal Entertainment, triumphed at Cadiz’s 2nd South Intl. Series Festival on Thursday, scooping its best fiction series award.
