Following the tragic end of her brief superhero career, Jessica Jones tries to rebuild her life as a private investigator, dealing with cases involving people with remarkable abilities in New York City.
Producer Melissa Rosenberg wanted to avoid actually showing rape in the story, which she called "lazy storytelling" and often a way to "spice up" male characters; she preferred to just showcase the rape-related trauma a part of the characters' everyday lives.
The opening credits are a blurred sequence (from Jessica's point of view) of neighborhoods with silhouetted characters carrying out private activities.
