I must address my biggest complaint with the film. When the film starts it introduces you to a whole set of characters from a "ghost hunting" team. Some establishment of character is attempted, or at least feels so. At about 30 minutes into the film, almost the entire cast is never seen from again except one. Why was the time spent explaining little nuances about the characters if you are never going to see them again? The character that the camera does stick with had the smallest build up. It felt like a waste of time. The remainder of the film is the "ghost" activity, which mostly consist of the ghost or whatever it is spooking people.

This makes the story or complete lack there of very weak. No explanation is given to the ghost or why it was around in any way at all.

The acting wasn't horrible. Not great by any means. Far better than your average B horror selection. Doug the plumber came off a little silly at points.

Special note would go to some of the music which presented a very good 80's horror feel, though it was pretty limited.

Something to watch if you have seen virtually every other available film on netflix/amazon.
  • Provoked otherwise known as American Poltergeist (Not to be confused with the equally dire movie of the same name from the year before) this is also the 10th movie in the Paranormal Investigations franchise.

Yet another movie revolving around a ghost hunting team this particular one see's the team failing to come up with anything and frustration kicking in. Angering a spirit one of them seems to have brought it home with him and his girlfriend.

You probably can work out what happens next, paranormal nonsense but even then very little. Practically nothing happens and when it does it's incredibly ugly which raises the question where did the 1.5 million budget go? No, seriously. How can a movie with a budget like that, look like this?

With the ripoff cover art, weak acting, non-existent action and recycled script this is an absolute mess alike every other Paranormal Investigation franchise movie I've seen so far.

Dreadful stuff, incredibly making it found footage may have helped it.

    The Good:

    Nope

    The Bad:

    Hideous sfx

    Really boring

How did this cost 1.5 million?

    Warning: Spoilers
Did this cast and crew do any rehearsing of scenes? A table reading of the script? Anything?

The movie revolves around a team of amateur paranormal investigators who can't seem to capture any signs or activity in their investigations. This is particularly vexing for team member, Matt, who is desperately hoping for something... ANYTHING... to happen during these investigations. At one particular site, he angrily challenges the alleged entity to show itself. Nothing happens, and the team packs up and leaves.

Now, here's where it gets stupid. Matt, who was craving action, is driving home, and his vehicle's CD player acts up. Then, he sees a shadow figure in the backseat. What does Mr. Craving Action do? Nothing.

The entity that Matt had challenged follows him home, and things start to happen. Keys and other objects are moved. Faucets turn on by themselves. Objects rearrange themselves... all classic poltergeist activities. What does Mr. Craving Action do? Nothing. He blows it all off.

Matt's girlfriend, Jamie, is attacked by the entity, while Matt is home. She is dragged through the house, pulled into a room, and slapped around. What does Mr. Craving Action do? Nothing. He blows Jamie off and tells her that she fell, hit her head, and imagined all of it. Wow. So much for seeking signs of the paranormal.

Then there's Tyler, the team's resident obnoxious jerk. Tyler is totally and completely unlikeable. During one investigation, he opens the dresser of one of the residents, starts rifling through her underwear, and taking photos of the contents in the drawer... while another team member is standing two feet away. Tyler is the film's requisite assh**e, the guy who thinks that he's smarter and funnier than everyone else

Then there's the team's leader, Paul. Paul is hopelessly smitten with Alexis, another member of the team. They were once a couple, but the relationship ended. Despite this, they continue to work together. Just prior to going on the investigation where Matt goes loony tunes and challenges the entity, Paul tells Alexis that he wants to get back together with her. Alexis rebuffs him, however, and tells Paul that she is seeing someone else. She asks him to accept this, and tells him that she wants to be friends and nothing more. Paul reluctantly agrees. Alexis considers the matter to be closed.

Then, during the investigation where Matt loses it, Paul follows Alexis around like a petulant schoolboy with a crush. Time and again, he begs Alexis for another chance, and time and again, she rebuffs him.

This movie sucks on every level; direction, acting, special effects, story continuity. Why would Matt, whose reason for living is finding signs of paranormal activity, ignore virtually everything that he's ever looked for, right in his own house?

Tyler's only purpose in the movie is to be a dickhead creep. He has virtually no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

The demonic entity kills Paul, and then Matt. As we see Matt, dead on the floor, his answering machine takes a message. It's from the owners of the house that Matt went crazy in. The paranormal activity in their house has stopped, Mrs. Home Owner says. "You're a Godsend," she tells the dead Matt.

You don't see Tyler again after his panty raid. You don't see Alexis again after she tells Paul to forget about getting together again for the last time. You don't see Kim, another member of the team, after the fateful investigation.

This movie isn't as bad as "Dark Attachment", or "Midnight Macabre", but it's scarcely, and I do mean scarcely, half a step up from them.
  • Clearly things are bad when you have fake reviews written about this film. Truth is this film is terrible. I would nearly says watch it for some of the most hilarious bad acting ever seen, its not the fact its that bad, nut they seem to be playing it seriously. The director has obviously never filmed more than a family holiday, as the camera work is terrible, angles that are terribly framed, and then sound than changes from cut to cut. Overall, this film is a complete train wreck, watch it so long as you don't have to pay for it, cause it hilarious how wooden and bad the acting is.

Put it this way, I actually for the first time ever came here after a decade of not using my account, reset my password, so I could write all of this, yea, that's how bad it is.

Do not believe the other reviews saying this movie is "good" the acting is horrible. To say the characters are "believable and strong enough" is to say that they are believably bad at acting and strong enough to continue with the movie despite how awful it is. The first half of the movie is boring with no scare factors whatsoever, but you hang in there hoping it'll get better as the movie climaxes. It doesn't, and the image of the poltergeist is completely laughable. I've seen my fair share of B films but this one is by far one of the worst ones. Not even worth a free rental, do not waste your time. If you want scary I would skip this movie.

    Awful
Beats me how this film was ever released,it seems the storyline is made up as it goes along, the worst acting ever and the sound quality coming from a cheap camcorder.

Acting was terrible. The actor playing the owner of the home maintained an odd monotone the entire film. It was so pronounced that I assumed it would eventually be explained by some event in the movie. Nope. Just bad acting. Some of the writing was so ridiculous that it would have fit in a horror movie parody.
  • What's the best way to get a spirit to contact you? Make it angry!

What a joke of characters this movie was. So much was pointless and contributed nothing. Like introducing us to the cast of the tv show in depth. Giving them slight character development and back story. Showing the rival ghost hunter show. None of this mattered as 25 min after the minus starts we don't see any of them again except for 1 guy.

It made no sense that the lead guy, the one who really wanted to catch a ghost, didn't believe any of the paranormal activity that was happening in his own home. Every stupid decision that could be made, he made it.

I won't even comment on the bad cinematography, acting, music, or setting. But I will say this: directors: stop thinking 80s sci-fi sounds and bgm are cool. They. Are. Not!

Big enough to fly a commercial airliner thru....... WHY Matt the ghost man demanded ghostly signs and then IGNORED ALL THE SIGNS CLEARLY EXHIBITING AROUND HIM!!! Was irritating!!!that's it! Most massive plot hole i have EVER witnessed, EVER. And that, along with the awful plot, bad acting (oh,the girlfriend's acting was PAINFULLY terrible!!) horrid character development (or lack thereof, because we never see them again!) made this an abomination for the ages!!! This was boring, not scary, slow, and just generally a dumb movie. A complete turd sandwich of a film.it's too late for me,i can't unsee this, but you can save yourself!!
  • "Provoked" is a film that I have followed from the beginning so I am thrilled to finally get to see the film completed. It follows a group of paranormal researchers following the path of their favorite TV paranormal team, M.A.P.S. On one assignment unfortunately one of the investigators brings something home that proves fatal. "Provoked" is the first feature film of Jordan Pacheco and stars Tony Moran, Christopher P. O'Reilly, Nicole Lasala, Dan Liebman, Jami Tennille, Sean Carmichael, Kati Salowsky, Camille Farnan, Michaelah Noelle Nunes, Charles Everett Tacker and Jeanne Lohnes .

The story explored in "Provoked" is very tradition and doesn't stray far from paranormal lore which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it trapped the film in a "sleeper" mode for a great deal of the film. The acting and character depths in the film were believable and strong enough but the actual interactions and honest ability to connect on screen fell a bit flat at times. That being said "Provoked" does draw you into the story and offers a serious, chilling atmosphere that screams "haunting". And that "sleeper" feel of the first part of the film does more to disarm you just enough for the thrilling height of action, which throws, claws, and drags you right to the exciting, and intense climax-and man is it thrilling. This is a story that builds calmly, steadily right up until all Hell breaks loose.

"Provoked" uses some pretty standard effects to bring the paranormal aspects to life in the film, they are mild for the most part and a little too expected. That doesn't really hurt the over all production of "Provoked", I merely mention it so that fans of this subgenre who may be seeking big amounts of falderal will be prepared when viewing this movie. Now the real joy for horror, and effects fans comes at the last third of this film-right along with the excitement and chills. There are some pretty creepy and thrilling moments. And I love an ending that isn't all "Hallmarky". The film is definitely worth seeing because it holds to the more mature, classic love of the genre, with a steady paranormal story, and a very modern nightmare ending. I feel "Provoked" will please any paranormal fan.

I had to join Imbd to write this as modern horror films now all re use the same old cliche. The cliche I'm taking about is the typical stereotypical male that no matter what is happening he still refuses to believe some entity could be in his home.

What makes it worse is the guy is a ghost hunter so he should know the signs to look for. So somehow he has antagonised some spirit and it has followed him back to his home. Firstly he doesn't notice things that are not right in his home that mirror exactly the same as the previous home he was investigating...coupled to the fact his girlfriend was thrown across the room whilst he was downstairs hearing her screaming Yet "you're just imagining things my dear".

It started well but the lad was annoying me too much so I stopped watching.

First the disclaimer, yes I do know the director Jordan Pacheco as I had the chance to see his work on a RI horror movie that he provided the special effects for. I was not involved in the picture in any way and didn't see it until I purchased a copy of the film from the director. Now with that crap out of the way let's talk about the flick. Chris O'Reilly plays Matt. Matt is a member of an amateur group of ghost hunters led by Paul played by Dan Liebman. To date they haven't had much luck with the ghost hunting as far as not even getting a rise from the Lizzy Bordan house. They are asked to help a family that is being plagued by a particular nasty ghost or ghosts. As per the norm, when the team arrives nothing happens. Matt finally loses it and starts yelling at the spirits calling them out to face him and that he would take care of them if they did. He explains to Paul that he was trying to "provoke" the ghosts into some kind of response. Paul packs it in for the night and Matt leaves but there may be something coming with him. He goes home to his girlfriend Jamie played by Nicole Lasala. Strange happenings start to occur at his house that are quickly spinning out of control. I am normally not a fan of ghost stories because I tend to find them to be boring and not very frightening. Provoked is nothing like that. The film had my attention from opening credits to final reel. One of the highlights is Tony Moran (from the first Halloween) as Doug the plumber and his encounter with the house. Some nice music and great storytelling give this film a nice pace that is missing in the hundreds of haunted house with malevolent spirits movies that Hollywood keeps churning out. "Never provoke the undead"
