The year was 1965, and the world had gone gaga for ultra-lethal secret agents. This craze had its roots in the 1953 publication of Ian Fleming's first James Bond novel, "Casino Royale," which of course set in motion a literary phenomenon that exploded onto the big-screen with 1962's "Dr. No." At the height of the Cold War, Bond exuded a reassuring air of insouciant lethality; he could kill an adversary just as easily as he could light a cigarette, and he looked so very suave while doing either. He was a man's man, a fashion plate and figure of patriotic hope at a time when the fate of the free world hung in the balance between two diametrically opposed superpowers.
The runaway box office success of "Dr. No" and "From Russia with Love" sent rival studios and television networks scrambling to figure out how to capitalize on the public's fervent fascination...

Netflix’s “The Witcher” puts its spin on “The Little Mermaid” in “The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep.” Set during the events of Season 1, the new animated film adapts from Andrzej Sapkowski’s short story “A Little Sacrifice” (which was itself inspired by the classic fairytale).
The film follows Geralt and Jaskier to a seaside town to investigate attacks, only to wind up in the middle of a long-brewing conflict between the humans and merpeople before it turns into all-out war. The adaptation brings some of its own spin to the tale, featuring voices that “Witcher” fans will recognize from the games and live-action series alike — as well as some newcomers.

Nicolas Cage played Ghost Rider in two disappointing Sony Pictures movies. When the sequel bombed, the rights to the character reverted to Marvel Studios and that's where he's remained ever since.
As we write this, rumours are swirling about the Spirit of Vengeance appearing in Avengers: Doomsday and/or Spider-Man 4. There's also been chatter of a solo movie or TV series, suggesting there are finally firm plans for the anti-hero after Robbie Reyes' brief stint in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
In this feature, we've selected six actors we think would be a good pick to bring Johnny Blaze to life on screen in the MCU. Hopefully, you'll find these names a refreshing change of pace from the usual suspects who crop up online.

Kit Williamson, best known for creating and starring in the Emmy-nominated series “EastSiders,” is back with “Unconventional.”
Premiering on LGBTQ streaming platform Revry on Feb. 11, the TV comedy series stars Williamson as Noah, a queer millennial questioning the future of his 10-year marriage to his husband Dan (James Bland). At the same time, Noah becomes the sperm donor to his sister Margot’s wife, Eliza. Each episode follows a month of the pregnancy.
As Williamson first told me when I broke the news about the show’s Revry deal, “Unconventional” is “unapologetically queer.”
“I think we’re in a really interesting inflection point where I think we’re being told to quiet down, and I actually think that the opposite approach is what is needed,” Williamson says, alluding to the Trump administration’s anti-lgbtq policies and directives. “I’m not going to quiet down. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is officially set to return to combat the forces of darkness.
The trades have confirmed that Buffy is being resurrected for a new Hulu series, which will serve as more of a sequel to the original show than a full reboot, as Sarah Michelle Gellar is set to reprise her iconic role.
Though Gellar is now said to be in final talks to play Buffy Summers in the untitled project, she would not be the main focus. The story will reportedly follow the adventures of a new Slayer, with Gellar appearing in a recurring role rather than leading the series.
Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman are attached to write, showrun, and executive produce, with Eternals director Chloé Zhao set to helm the pilot and executive produce under her Book of Shadows production banner. Gellar would also executive produce along with Gail Berman. Fran Kuzui and Kaz Kuzui...

Clark Gregg, even if he lives to be 100 and works until his final day as an actor, will forever be known best as Agent Coulson. The actor helped kick off the Marvel Cinematic Universe during Phase 1 as an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., culminating in a pivotal role in 2012's "The Avengers," one of the biggest and most important movies ever made. He even survived his death to headline seven seasons of Marvel's "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." More than a decade before all of that, though, he wrote one of the biggest hits of 2000.

When Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. launched on Disney+, it was meant to be part of the MCU. After a rocky start, The Avengers spin-off found its footing in the second half of season 1 and excelled when it tied into Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
However, as time passed, the series became more and more far-removed from what's since been dubbed the Sacred Timeline. In recent years, we've learned that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige didn't want any of those Marvel Television shows to happen; they were former Marvel Entertainment Chairman Ike Perlmutter's doing.
So, when the opportunity presented itself, Feige talked Disney CEO Bob Iger into allowing Marvel Studios to oversee everything by producing MCU TV shows for Disney+.

Chloe Bennet will join the Jonas Brothers in their upcoming Christmas comedy movie for Disney+.
The “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and “Interior Chinatown” actor will play Joe Jonas’ love interest in the film, which is slated for the 2025 holiday season.
Variety announced the project, which has the working title “Jonas Brothers Christmas Movie,” on Tuesday. It sees Nick Jonas and Kevin Jonas burnt out after a six-month tour, eager to get home to their families to celebrate Christmas. Joe, on the other hand, feels disconnected from his brothers and wishes they could spend more time together. As they try to make it home to New York from London, a random disaster — or is it a Christmas miracle? — keeps them stranded overseas. “To find their way home, they’ll need to rediscover what it means to be brothers,” per the logline.

When the Marvel Cinematic Universe kick-started, it was known for sharing the same narrative across multiple interconnected live-action movies. Sure, a few television series such as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. also formed part of this universe, but they were never too impactful to be considered a must-watch. As such, fans would often feel the potential to tell great superhero stories across the small screen was wasted and overlooked. That was our reality for many years until Phase 4 came by and changed everything for the better.
WandaVision would become the first in a long list of Disney Plus shows starring fan-favorite characters and with no shortage of meaningful stories. But while it's been great to see other corners of the Marvel Universe explored across these projects, there's one big downside: Most of them only last one season regardless of how well they do. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is packed with a score of characters who more than deserve their own Disney Plus show.
The MCU franchise has been known for a lot of great supporting characters. Some are drawn from the comics, while others are more original, but they all shine nicely, adding to the narrative in ways that are often unexpected. Some are able to rise up thanks to the actors, while others sadly don’t get the attention they should. Thankfully, with Disney Plus expanding the horizons of the shared universe with so many new TV shows over the past few years, there are more opportunities for folks to rise up and get some of that long-overdue spotlight.
It’s tricky to decide which ones would thrive in that spotlight, however, as some characters really are better when they aren't the main focus. We loved Luis in the Ant-Man movies, but...
The MCU franchise has been known for a lot of great supporting characters. Some are drawn from the comics, while others are more original, but they all shine nicely, adding to the narrative in ways that are often unexpected. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. debuted in 2013, and since then, the series has continued to improve with age thanks to some inspired choices. While Marvel has been releasing films and TV shows for decades, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) marked a major turning point for the franchise as the newly created connected universe began to take shape. However, it took several more years for Marvel Studios to embrace TV shows into the official timeline, despite developing programs that had some overlap.
The first of which was Marvel's Agents of Shield. However, Marvel Studios did not maintain the connection, and over time, the series drifted from the movie timeline. Despite this, the show made a lot of smart choices from the beginning that ensured its success over time, and helps the series still stand out among the landscape of official MCU TV shows for its incredible story, characters, and development.

CBS’ potential spinoff of The Equalizer is beginning to take shape: Titus Welliver (Bosch) and Juani Feliz (Harlem) have been cast in an upcoming episode of Queen Latifah’s hit procedural, Variety reports, with the possibility of both returning if the backdoor pilot is picked up to series.
Welliver’s character, Hudson Reed, is connected to Latifah’s Robin McCall through an old mentor, but there’s more to the “former CIA operative with a dark secret” than meets the eye. Feliz will play his daughter Samantha, who was trained by Hudson in martial arts, weaponry and the ability to...

These days, Marvel is everywhere. It's been that way for most of the decade thanks to the success of the Avengers franchise, but ever since the series' Multiverse Saga commenced, we literally mean everywhere. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has continued its dominance on the big screen by reaching out to the small one too, producing multiple Disney Plus shows a year that almost all share continuity with the MCU movies.
Being in a world where there are Marvel TV shows may not seem that unlikely for viewers who grew up fans of the classic series such as The Amazing Spider-Man and The Incredible Hulk, but the older fans of the MCU likely never saw the day coming when the franchise would make its presence felt across film and TV. Or maybe they did, for once upon a time, there were a number of Marvel TV shows that were thought to...

As the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to grow and grow, it begs the question of just how much bigger the world's most famous franchise can go. I mean, when you've surpassed the stratosphere a decade ago, everyone has to ask that question at some point. Heck, it's been asked time and time again. And somehow, Marvel continues to defy expectations.
The franchise has expanded its own horizons in recent years through the Multiverse Saga, welcoming in characters and concepts from Marvel movies long before the MCU was a thing. But its ambitions didn't stop there, as it has also seen the franchise make its way onto Disney Plus through the format of TV shows and standalone specials. Although there were some blips along the way, the studio endured with last year's comebacks Deadpool and Wolverine and Agatha All Along. And it will no doubt continue to do so when the...

During their Consumer Electronics Show (CES) presentation last night, Naughty Dog head Neil Druckmann officially announced that The Last of Us season two will debut this coming April, exclusively on HBO and streaming on Max.
The second season will consist of seven episodes, and while we don't have an exact premiere date just yet, we'd imagine the series returns sometime in mid-April, in the same release window Game of Thrones used to occupy during its run.
Season two will pick up five years after the events of season one, which concluded with Joel (Pedro Pascal) going on a rampage to rescue an unconcious Ellie (Belly Ramsey) from the Fireflies and then, in an effort to protect her, covering up the truth by telling her that making a cure was impossible and that raiders had raided the facility and forced them to flee.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been a genuine gift to comic book fans, bringing to life some of the most beloved Marvel Comics characters of all time. When you really think about it, it's probably easier to count the major characters who haven't made their MCU debut as of yet than it is to count the ones who have, as the franchise has turned the likes of Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Thor, the Incredible Hulk, Nick Fury, Scarlet Witch, Falcon and the Winter Soldier into even bigger stars than they already were.
This time around in the Multiverse Saga, the franchise has been focusing on doing the same for some lesser-known Marvel characters, placing the spotlight on the likes of the Eternals, Shang-Chi, Ms. Marvel, Agatha Harkness, Kate Bishop, and Wiccan. It hasn't been as seamless this time, but it has still introduced them all to new,...

Marvel Comics chain-wielding, flaming skull-head biker "Ghost Rider", previously appearing in live-action movies starring Nicolas Cage, plus a guest arc on ABC's "Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." will now see the character developed, for a new live-action Marvel Television series, for streaming on Disney+:
"...Marvel Comics first supernatural 'Ghost Rider' is stunt motorcyclist 'Johnny Blaze', who, to save the life of his father, agrees to give his soul to the demon 'Mephisto'.
"At night and when confronted by evil, Blaze finds his flesh consumed by 'hellfire', causing his head to become a flaming skull. He rides a fiery motorcycle and wields blasts of hellfire from his body, usually from his skeletal hands.

There's a huge amount of excitement among Marvel fans to see Ghost Rider return to our screens in a new movie, but it sounds like the Spirit of Vengeance might race back to television instead.
According to scooper @MyTimeToShineH, the current plan is for Ghost Rider to be a Disney+ TV series. We can't imagine a show like that would be cheap to produce given the special effects involved but it might still be a safer bet than another feature.
From there, it's easy to imagine the anti-hero being part of the long-rumoured Midnight Sons movie. This latest rumour comes not too long after the leaker claimed that an Agents of Atlas show is also in the works for Disney+.
Marvel Studios has been sitting on the rights to the Ghost Rider character for years and allowed Marvel Television to use the Robbie Reyes version in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a brief spell.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for What If...? season 3, episode 5, "What If... the Emergence Destroyed the Earth?"
Even though Marvel Studios is still refusing to make Agents of Shield canon to the MCU, What If...? season 3 just reimagined one of the popular ABC series' most game-changing storylines that began back in December 2017. What If...? season 3 brought the animated Multiverse Saga to a close by exploring some of the weirdest and most outlandish new universes in the MCU. One of these new worlds was an Earth ravaged by the emergence of the Celestial Tiamut, ruled over by Spider-Man villain Mysterio, which was reminiscent of an old Agents of Shield storyline.
What If...? season 3 explored variations on the storyline of 2021's divisive Eternals movie twice, first with the introduction of a Celestial Agatha Harkness, and again when showing what might have happened had Tiamut successfully emerged from inside the Earth. The narrative...

After the Marvel Cinematic Universe climaxed in 2019 with the release of "Avengers: Endgame" — a film which made eleventy skatillion dollars (adjusted) — many began to wonder if that was it for the series. After a $400 million, three-hour SFX epic with 40 main characters, a time travel story, and a 45-minute climactic fight scene, it seemed doubtful that it could be topped. Even after another decade of buildup, and an additional twenty-some feature films, such a finale couldn't possibly be recreated.
As it so happens, the doubters were correct. In the five years since "Endgame," the MCU has seemed both overstuffed and directionless. Multiple TV shows have oversaturated the brand, making each MCU entry seem less special. News began to come out about how Marvel Studios was engaged in vicious SFX bidding wars that were hurting the industry. Also, many have begun to notice the narrative limitations of superhero stories in general. There's...

3 years after WandaVision concluded on our screens and cemented its status as one of the best superhero shows of all time, I'm still fascinated by what the show's cut tenth episode could have brought to the series. The MCU was void of definitively canon Marvel shows until WandaVision, with series like Agents of Shield still holding a complicated space in the franchise's history due to conflicts with the main MCU timeline. As such, the spotlight was on WandaVision in a big way to provide a story that showed audiences how exciting the McU's TV shows could be.
Mercifully, WandaVision managed to do this and then some, capturing audiences in a fascinating mystery regarding how Wanda's life had become a stylized sitcom so far from where we last left her - especially since this had also seen Vision brought back to life as the co-star of the series. Along the way to the heartwrenching WandaVision ending,...

DC Studios now has its take on Nick Fury, which was introduced in the first-ever Dcu project.
The MCU had arguably no bigger connective tissue than Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury, the former director of Shield. Jackson is even part of multiple exclusive MCU clubs for his work after appearing in 14 Marvel Studios projects, which does not even include two episodes of Agents of Shield.
While he continues that impressive MCU run, DC is kickstarting its interconnected universe with the release of Creature Commandos, whose first two episodes debuted on December 5.

Tom Holland’s portrayal of Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has brought fans numerous iconic moments. The threequel, Spider-Man: No Way Home, not only brought the three major iterations of the superhero together but also had some heart-wrenching moments for Holland’s Peter Parker.
Having lost Marisa Tomei’s Aunt May, Holland’s character almost kills the Green Goblin, only to be stopped by Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker. Lost to his thirst for revenge, albeit temporarily, Holland’s character almost brings an end to Green Goblin.
However, even that moment is not the coldest we have seen Peter Parker act, as this House of M storyline may have gone a step further.

Wax On, Wax Off. For those of us who lived through the 1980s, The Karate Kid has been in our lives in one way or another. Kit Williamson’s new scripted half-hour comedy series “Unconventional” has been acquired by LGBTQ streaming network Revry.
Williamson, a six-time Emmy nominee best known as the creator and star of “Eastsiders,” stars in “Unconventional” as Noah Guillory, a queer millennial struggling with his 10-year marriage, possibly starting a family, and the future of his PhD program while also acting as the sperm donor to his sister Margot’s wife, Eliza.
The nine-episode season – each episode follows a month of Eliza’s pregnancy — will premiere on Revry on Feb. 11.
“‘Unconventional’ comes at a time where stories about marginalized communities are more important than ever and ‘Unconventional’ is an unapologetically queer show,” Williamson said Thursday. “Unfortunately, LGBTQ representation has diminished considerably since ‘Eastsiders’ ended, and mainstream depictions often shy away from the complex realities of queer love. Revry is the perfect home for the series and I couldn’t be more excited about the acquisition.

After the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline has started to canonize past Marvel TV shows like Daredevil, Agents of Shield and Agent Carter get a clarification from Marvel Studios. It's clear to see that Avengers: Doomsday is one of the most anticipated movies of the coming years. On the surface, it's an Avengers movie; of course it's going to be a big one. But for fans who have been keeping up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe as regularly as possible, it's so much more than that.
Avengers: Doomsday is the opening act of the Multiverse Saga's grand finale. Much like 2018's Avengers: Infinity War, it will kickstart the battle to end all battles and hopefully save the universe from imminent danger. That danger comes in the form of Doctor Doom, who will be portrayed by franchise veteran Robert Downey Jr.
Marvel is going big with this one in a bid to both revive the MCU saga and send the multiversal chapter out on a high. Accompanying Rdj will be fellow MCU stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Anthony Mackie, Tom Holland, Chris Evans,...

The cast of Marvel Studios' Avengers: Doomsday continues to grow and the latest addition is the fan favorite Hayley Atwell, who Deadline is reporting has signed on to reprise her role as Agent Peggy Carter in the Russo Brothers-directed blockbuster.
This latest casting news comes just days after the bombshell report that Chris Evans was set to return as Steve Rogers in the hotly awaited film, with a report claiming he'll be adopting the Nomad mantle this time rather than returning as Captain America, having passed that legacy on to a worthy successor.
In addition to Evans, Atwell joins a star cast featuring Robert Downey, Jr. (Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom), Tom Holland (Peter Parker/Spider-Man), Benedict Cumberbatch (Stephen Strange/Doctor Strange), Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Captain America), Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/Invisible Woman), Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/Thing), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/Human...

Yet another major star from the Marvel Cinematic Universe's past is returning to help conclude the Multiverse Saga. Marvel seems to come back to one actress over and over again, although they have yet to appear in live action. Marvel has been around for a long time, but its popularity on the big screen has peaked over the last two decades. With the rise of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Marvel has had the opportunity to shine a light on dozens of the lesser known characters from its extensive roster in a variety of mediums.
This has been an outstanding factor in bringing the nerdy and geeky world of comics into the mainstream. One detail in the Darkhold's impact on Agatha Harkness' physical appearance during her debut in 2021's WandaVision proves Kathryn Hahn's original Salem witch is more powerful than the Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange in the MCU. Following its appearance in Marvel Television projects such as Agents of Shield and Runaways, the Darkhold, the Book of the Damned, was reimagined for the MCU proper in WandaVision. This more mystical version of the Book of Sins was initially in the possession of Kathryn Hahn's powerful Agatha Harkness, but has affected several others since then.
The Darkhold has now made several appearances in the MCU, and 2022's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness revealed a little more about the book's history. The physical Darkhold book was transcribed from the dark magic and sinister spells engraved into the walls of the Darkhold Castle on Mount Wundagore. This magic has a way of...

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. featured incredible talent like Adrianne Palicki, but despite her popularity as Bobbi Morse, the actress left after just two seasons, but for very good reason. Marvel and DC have been creating TV shows for decades, but when the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) began taking off, Marvel Studios began to turn its attention to TV. Initially, Marvel Studios operated under a very different structure to Marvel Television, and when the two did decide to combine under one banner, many popular Marvel TV projects ended.
However, Agents of Shield was one of the lucky few that got to run for an incredible seven seasons. The series initially had an inseparable connection to the MCU, with the show being built around Clark Gregg's Agent Phil Coulson, but when the studios failed to acknowledge the series, AoS began to exercise its freedom more overtly. However, along the way, there were...

A new deleted scene from Loki season 2 has surfaced, and the mention of one new MCU character could prove pivotal to Matt Murdock's continued development in Marvel Television's upcoming Daredevil: Born Again. Loki season 2 concluded in November 2023, ending with Tom Hiddleston's former God of Mischief becoming the lone protector of the entire multiverse and perhaps the McU's most powerful character. Loki hasn't always been a hero, however, and a new deleted scene from Loki season 2 confirms just how many people he's fought over the years.
Loki season 2 picked up immediately after the finale of season 1, which saw Sylvie kill He Who Remains and throw Loki back to the Time Variance Authority. This provides Loki and Owen Wilson's Mobius with more bonding opportunities, which is put on full display in a new deleted scene revealed by Variety in November 2024. This scene showcases a brilliant moment between the pair,...
