Due to critical panning and poor box office receipts, 20th Century Fox canceled the Blu-ray release of the film. It was only released on standard DVD. Roadshow Entertainment released a region B locked BluRay in Australia on March 08 2017.

Two buildings in downtown Greensboro, NC were refinished to look like New York during filming. They're across the street from the scene of the Greensboro Four Sit In.

A dramatic dinner scene that includes Beckinsale's character having a drunken breakdown was included in the US theatrical release of the film, but no subsequent DVD or digital versions include this scene.

This is Relativity Studios' first release since filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on July 30, 2015, after lawsuits and missing loan payments. The studio emerged from bankruptcy in March 2016. This film was released on September 9, 2016, under Relativity's Rogue label.

Parts of the film were filmed on the same street as Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth (1992).

Filming was completed in 2014, but the film sat unreleased until 2016.

This is the second film written by Wentworth Miller to include Lucas Till in the cast. Till played Pitts in Stoker (2013).

Wentworth Miller had a small role in Underworld (2003), which also starred Kate Beckinsale.

Parts of this movie were filmed in downtown Ramseur, North Carolina. Children of the Corn II: The Final Sacrifice (1992) was filmed in the same location.

World renowned artist and photographer Jeff Griffin frequently visited the set during filming.

Lucas was watching "The Magic Garden". He must have been watching a DVD because: 1. "The Magic Garden" was broadcast in the NYC metropolitan area and the movie takes place in NC. 2. It was last on the air in 1984.

A lot of footage was left on the cutting room floor during post-production. This includes a flashback of Judge and Mrs. Blacker throwing an elegant party in a beautiful garden (which is overgrown in the present day), with the disappointments room overlooking it. Dana, looking for Lucas, walks through this party in disbelief of what she's seeing. It would have added to the unfolding of Dana finding out about the child's story of abuse, sparking her curiosity to go see the woman who knows all about the history of disappointments rooms. Another cut scene involves the German Shepherd that kills the cat, and Dana has a vision of her son being attacked by the dog. All of it leads up to the fact that Mrs. Blacker was attacked and killed by her husband's dog, and he did nothing to stop it.
