  • Jeff Black did a great job... the script however had some holes in it. great movie, but I suspect that Sonny left out some things that would have made this much better had he not sold the original to Fox many moons ago. a lot of the acting was not good, ironically because most of the cast were real bikers. most of them probably felt quite awkward being filmed. I dunno , the message is there... but if you don't understand the life .. .you ain't ever gonna. all and all a great job with the directing and cinematography... I cannot complain. patch Kincaid shows a wide range of the human experience. the riding scenes are real.. very nice
  • As a biker, who has ridden with MC's, but also educated, post-graduate level, I would like to speak the truth about this movie.

The intentions and ideas behind the movie are genuine, that is true.

But, here are some major areas where the film failed: 1. the acting - the actors performances seemed contrived, trying too hard, probably from lack of training/experience, too obvious 2. the biker patches - they looked too new, no road wear and tear, made them appear like newbies, no authenticity, should have been a no-brainer, very obvious and weakens the film 3. victory motorcycles - great bike, but i don't think every MC in arizona rides victory motorcycles, unless polaris/victory suddenly achieved a monopoly status - very obvious and weakens the film 4. the script - the intent to be realistic is noted and appreciated, but the content was lacking, very cliché, very typical and looks like the writers cut and paste from action films and interviews - very lacking and weakened the film Overall, it was a good idea, but poorly produced, bad lighting, acting, and many juvenile mistakes and errors showing amateur direction, lacking professionalism I was disappointed and would NOT recommend this film or spend money to see it.

No offense to the creators, we need more movies and exposure for real MC, but let's do it the professional way, get some educated writers who have real script production experience and interview and work with real club members and then put together a much better film.

Weak film, cliché and predictable and typical. All of the positive reviews are staged and obviously false. No avid real movie goer could give this film better than a 3.

Sorry, nice try, go back to the drawing board!

I think it's funny how this movie is ranked higher than most Hollywood and Sundance blockbusters, yet, totally sucks!! Click on each of the users that reviewed this movie and you'll see the accounts were created only to review this crummy movie. I was wondering why this movie was rated higher than most Hollywood blockbusters and now I know why. Don't listen to the reviews, they're all fake or copied from other movies. It's shot with a home point and shoot, I'm not kidding, the lighting is off, video is straight from camera to film with no touch ups, and it's written and directed by a high school student with a B average, and boosted by people with a lot of free time to create fake accounts on IMDb. I'm an avid movie goer and this is pretty bad. Watch the trailer for the best parts, if any. Please avoid this movie. SPOILER, this movie stinks!!!

A movie about losers, written by losers. Why waste the time?
  • Dead in 5 Heartbeats creates and visually illuminates the origins and lives of a MC family by giving you a true look with an inside seat at what a "Club family" is truly like. Sonny Barger remained true as he has always been, in his signature no-nonsense style. He gives us outsiders a real look at where this one-percenter perspective is best embodied and not made up by the media in which they only seek their audience by using false catch phrasing and all bad no good habitual mindsets to continuously make all bikers the same and with no souls. As biographical as it is insightful, Dead in 5 Heartbeats also touches on the iconic Victory motorcycle, gives a brief history of how and what MC's truly stand for and theoretically in my opinion should virtually wipe out all those repeated, biased, unfairly negative portrayals of motorcycle clubs that due to mainstream media we all are forced to receive. I know many of these folks personally and as a small child growing up in Arizona, I know the good and Great in so many of them. Folks need to see its not all blood, guts, drugs n gore. These guys and their interwoven families are more than one sided. They can be the best folks you ever meet but as with any normal human with a soul they too can be your worst enemy when lines are crossed. We ALL HAVE THOSE LINES, MC families are no different. Dead in 5 Heartbeats is a Must See, you may find yourself and your opinions newly changed for the better....... FOREVER!
  • I've enjoyed reading a couple of books by Sonny Barger and whilst I haven't read "Dead in 5 Heartbeats", I thought the movie might be worth a viewing. I'll try to be honest by saying that a lot of this movie came across as unpolished, but that didn't bother me as much as some of the scenes that were a little confusing and appeared to be there for no specific reason. I enjoyed the portrayal of the Biker lifestyle and the Brotherhood that goes with it but the acting was a real mixed bag, some was good and some was fairly ordinary, but I guess that is to be expected when not all the cast are professional actors. I thought the story itself was good but again, could have been a little more refined. As far as Biker movies go, I gave it a 7 as I personally enjoy these types of movies. If you aren't really into Biker movies specifically, a 5 might be closer to the mark.
  • I hopped on my bike at 8am Saturday morning April 6, 2013 and went for a 440 mile putt to meet Sonny, Patch and the crew and watch the 5:30pm showing of Dead in 5 Heartbeats. About 5 minutes after I arrived at the movie theater in Phoenix Arizona, I was standing outside and Sonny came riding up on his motorcycle and with him was Chuck Zito riding Patch's movie bike...what a bonus...Dead in 5 Heartbeats is by far the greatest biker film I've ever seen. I Spent the night in the Arizona desert under a cactus and could hardly sleep as the movie and events kept playing in my head. At 7am the next morning I rolled up my sleeping bag, fired up my bike and putted back to Albuquerque making it a 880 mile ride to watch a movie, and believe me I'd would do it again. Jeff Santo and the crew brought Sonny's novel to life...Don't wait for the movie to come to you, get on your bike and ride to it!!! John

This is a horrible movie. I stopped after the first half hour because I value my time and brain. This movie was not intelligent or any type of masterpiece. I am surprised with all these positive reviews. It is very weird that this movie is placed so high up in the rankings. I was surprised to see that. Personally I wouldn't waste my time on this film. The acting is horrible. The way the movie was filmed was off and weird which made it seem amateur. But that is my review. I try to be as fair as possible with my reviews because I think it's only fair. You may find this movie to be very good, but I highly doubt many (If any) movie buffs would give this movie a high ranking.
  • The movie is excellent, 10 stars across the board. I wish I had gone on Friday & not Sunday because I would have paid to see it again & again!! I am a HUGE fan of independent films & Mr. Santo is a force to be reckoned with!! I look forward to seeing him & Mr. Barger collaborate in the future. They made 2 hours of cinematic gold & it was a refreshing change from all the garbage coming out of Hollywood these days. Normally I will not pay to go to the theater because I end up falling asleep within 30 minutes, NOT the case this time!! It kept my attention the entire film & I left feeling satisfied, not disappointed because there were a million unanswered loose ends. The main characters are highly realistic & the storyline takes an amazing twist at the end. I cried, laughed, & laughed so hard I cried. You WILL root for what society has undeservingly deemed "The bad guy" & if you knew nothing of MC's before, you will be awakened by the truth. LH&R. This film is a must see!!!!!
  • Must see movie.... My wife Olivia and I traveled to Az to be at the opening of Dead in 5 Heartbeats. It's the movie we have all been waiting for and more. If you have ever ridden a motorcycle you may owe Sonny some thanks for giving us all a heritage to live up to. Black leather and loud pipes don't make you a tough guy. The life of a motorcycle club member is the brotherhood we all seek. This movie gives a glimpse into a man that has the courage to ride free.. We got to meet the cast, and Sonny was as usual himself, gracious and welcoming. I have had the opportunity to meet Sonny a few years ago and ride on some of the rides he has during the year. I have always admired the way the rides are put together. He has, for a long while, talked about a movie that he wanted to make and now it has finally arrived. It is being well received and will be opening in other cities soon. I encourage any one who enjoys independent films and the mystique of motorcycle riding to see it.
  • I had the pleasure of watching a couple days of the movie shoot in person, and being able to participate in some scenes. I couldn't wait for it to come out. This weekend was the second time seeing the film. This is a must watch movie! There is action, comedy and drama. It's one bad-ass movie. Real people in real situations. Patch Kincaid is one touch guy and is a great actor in the movie.Jeff Santos did a awesome job putting the movie together, does not look like a independent film in the movie. Great work guys! Can't wait to purchase the DVD!! I would recommend it to everyone, biker or not. It will help everyone realize what a real MC is.
  • I saw this movie. I'm not a biker but loved it. It speaks to everyone about a need to hold on to what is real. The need to stand together for what is great about this country. Not about what is being taken away, though what is being taken away is always what makes us feel the need to hold on to what is ours. It's a timeless story that could have been about the old west or any era of time. A brotherhood that means more than just one group of people but groups of people realizing that they are working together for a common goal, in spite of the outside influences. This movie hit me and meant way more than I expected it to. It truly is the best of it's kind I have ever seen.

I was at the first showing and enjoyed it so much I saw it again the same day. I saw things at the second showing that I missed the first time I watched the movie. Jeff was great as "patch" and most of the acting was done very well. I think that movie watchers are going to enjoy this movie as much as I know the riders that were in attendance during the first two days of the premier enjoyed watching fellow riders act in the movie. Don't wait for the DVD and go find it in a theater near you. The scene that Sonny was in was well played and the two young actors that played "Hollister" and "Nine inch" did a great job. I don't know if Sonny, Chuck Zito and other members of the motorcycle clubs are going to travel to the premiers, but here in Phoenix we were lucky to have many of the club actors attend the opening night festivities. Ride free!

The trailers didn't do this film justice. The movie is 100 times better. I was expecting a very poor movie but walked away being throughly entertained. The story line is excellent. The film has its humorous scenes along with the serious dramatic scenes which intertwined through out the film keeping me deeply invested into the story. This film kind of reminded me of a modern day West Side Story but with more players. Since there were only 2 showings on one day, I couldn't attend more showing which I would have. Now I can't wait until the movie comes out on DVD. If you get the chance to view this film I would recommend that you get out there and see it. Even if you don't ride or belong to an MC you can and will still enjoy this movie without being lost. It was also an added surprise when attending the viewing when I saw the producer and other members of the production staff and the actors and actresses in attendance at the venue. They were approachable and answered questions without a problem.
  • When the boss himself, Sonny Barger, even hinted at the fact that he was doing this film.. I was all ears, and threw myself in 100%. Especially during a time where "Biker Club" life began to really peak out of its shell. Although Sons of Anarchy is a great TV show, and well written, Dead in 5 Heartbeats will blow you away with the true knit and grit of a real MC. I went to see it for the first time at the Premiere in Sacramento, and when I heard it was coming to LA.. I made it a point to fly home from Louisiana just to be there again. This is an amazing film, and I know how much heart was put into it.. I would watch it again and again.
  • I enjoyed this movie. I grew up around the Local 81 and a few other MCs in town and this movie shows how these people live and die. I would say anyone who has good knowledge of any MC would agree that this is a good movie to watch. Keep in mind that there are very few real actors in this movie and that the producers used real MCs to work and act in this movie. This movie is not about acting it is about the lifestyle of the 1%.The quality of this DVD was excellent and I was very happy to purchase and watch this movie. I also ordered a shirt and everything was delivered in a couple of days. If anyone has read the book it is a little different but close to it. Sonny Barger did a great job on this movie.

I thought the movie was well told and gave a glimpse into a world most of us know nothing about. It was good to see the human side of some of the clubs and that they are just like other people. The ending left the crowd cheering. I went to the showing in Bridgeport and it was well attended and the crowd loved it. Great job by all! The theater was beautiful and very hospitable. The cameos were great throughout the movie. It was very well told and the quality was excellent. I was amazed how they did this on such a small budget. We even met some of the actors after the movie. I will continue to look for other movies by Santo films.
  • Most people realize that anything dubbed "reality" is anything but. That was true until now. DI5H is an honest depiction of the men who live the club life. It's an intriguing story of how deep the loyalty and respect aspects of the brotherhood run. There is so much wisdom to gain simply by listening the words of the lead character, Patch. The scenes are so detailed that you get the "deja vu" familiarity thing going. This is no SOA, and when the movie ends, you're going to want to see, hear, and feel MORE!

The DVD package is unlike any other. It'll be a cherished addition to any collection! L & R
  • For an Independent Movie, with a limited budget, Mr. Barger hit this one out of the Ball Park. An amazing job by Bikers playing actors! I'm very impressed with how the Biker Community pulled together to help make this movie. That alone shows the respect the Mr. Barger has earned over the years. And kudos's for finding unknown Garage Bands and giving them a chance to Showcase their talents! The 1950's "Raunchy" beat is perfect for the movie and impossible to get out of your head!! THANK YOU SONNY! When are you going to film the next one! ML&R from the Redwoods of No. Cali.. 707.... <3. I hope others will spread the word at all Bike Shows and Runs. This will truly become a Classic of Mr. Bargers Legacy.
  • Saw the movie at the Bridgeport Ct. premier . Having read the book I was excited to see how the movie would compare and I was not disappointed at all . There were parts from Sonny's first book as well that were brought to life and also flowed well with the original story . There is something for every one in this movie . This is a biker movie for bikers , by bikers and written by the original biker Sonny himself . Watch it and you may see some core values that this country is lacking like brother hood ,respect and not being afraid to be yourself . This movie was made on a small budget and opened to a premier of 14 cities and is getting more attention on the internet . Support you independent film makers. Buy a copy of this DVD you won't be disappointed .

I absolutely loved it. I know the MC world all to well. Raised in it, married it, love it, and dealt with the criticism of the main stream world. We need things to show the good of clubs and the bad of the " law " side of the world. It was real and entertaining. Sunny is an amazing man. I love that this movie portrayed the good in MCs and showed the love between the brothers and their families. Good music, pretty girls, pretty guys, and job on the movie as whole. Thank you. Sunny for being an amazing asset to the MC world and their familys that love them. thank you for all your hard work, on the movie and bringing the worlds real lives to the public.
  • Full of anticipation to see this movie, and hey, guess what? Best movie experience of the year! A well-balanced mixture of suspense, drama and an occasional good laugh. Good choice of actors also, mr Black puts his character well down. Classic stuff, with elements of Greek and Shakespearian drama, with some deeply moving moments. With thanks to all the players, but also the crew, who did a hats-off professional job. Whereas other road movies like the classic Easy Rider marked an era, this movie is a timeless tribute to life itself and how to live it. A cult movie for now, but in the long end, should be up there with the all-time greats. I shall see if I can get the book too, must be great lecture. Thank you to Sharpfinger for the fast and correct delivery of the DVD, and keep up the good work! And finally a big thank you to Mr. Barger, God bless.
  • I loved Dead In 5 HeartBeats,I bought it right away and so enjoyed seeing the book becoming the movie.I have told my friends to buy the movie they will not be unhappy with it,very real like and the story line is amazing..Great Job..I bought a copy and sent it to a friend of mine in the UK, as soon as I can I will buy another one and send it to a friend of mine in Germany.I enjoyed watching the DVD of how it was made and to see how some of the people involved get into the part of who they played, very well put together.Sonny Barger had a wonderful idea on making his book a movie, hope to see some other book come into a movie as well.
  • Based upon an obscure graphic novel, Jeff Santo directed and produced it into an intellectually zen-like mantra of a movie that makes one realize that being a leader doesn't come with any more privileges, but only with more responsibilities. Watching bikers living close to home and connecting with their family members at diner time has a universal appeal with the apparent exception that in a biker's world problems seemingly become tragic at a flick of a switch with complications piling up longer than a line of relatives at a lottery winners house. This movie's story line purges your emotions with a catharsis of all the truisms of a biker's lifestyle of engaging in a never ending action packed day filled with danger at every turn that culminates into the movie's edgy ending. "Dead in 5 Heartbeats" is the best of the biker genre and hopefully the beginning of a successful succession of great independent films with the added benefit of exposing the new talent of little known bands, including the upbeat repertoire of the Nick Nicholson sound.
  • A friend of mine, whose song was chosen for the movie ranted and raved to me about it. I started to watch the day to day filming of the movie, way before it came to theater's. In each little preview, that part of the movie was explained on how or why they did something, or one of the main characters would be talking about their part in the movie. By the time all the little clips were seen, I was hooked. We had to drive down from Canada to go see the movie in Everett, Washington. As we found out later, the movie would not be shown in Canada due to very bad press. When in fact, there were never any problems with the so called "Bikers" in any city. We just lucked out when looking for the theater, we actually bumped into Jeff Black "Patch" and Jeff Santo "Director". The two of them were super friendly and kind enough to sign their autographs and chat for a minute. They were also kind enough to pose for pictures with anyone that asked, before and after the show. I am sorry to say that I was one of the many that looked down on "Bikers". This movie opened my eyes wide. If all families believed and acted like the bikers, we would be a far better society. The story line was actually very sweet, direct, and down right hilarious in parts. It showed what a true friend really is, and how people and families should live by the biker code. The music was super great with no real big name stars. Brian "Buck" Ellard, who's tear jerky "Goodbye Song" was chosen for the movie, was put in at a very pivotal part of the movie. The added expense of having to travel so far to see the movie, and paying for a Hotel was nothing, compared to the value of the experience. I cried, I laughed, I learned and I totally enjoyed. The movie was that great.
