Some early episodes feature nudity (breasts and backsides) and simulated sex, such as when a woman reaches her hand under some blankets and makes a man moan, or two women have oral sex in a shower. There is a lot of discussion of lesbians and having sex with women, and we see women kissing, cuddling, and being naked together. There is implied masturbation, and a character falsely accuses another of rape.

There are several scenes of strong lesbian sex throughout the show. Fully nude women make out and caress each other while moaning and gasping. Cunnilingus is also very frequent, along with fingering. All of the sexual content has to do with the story, and the fact that it takes place in a female prison. However, shower scenes occur very frequently, and in a lot of scenes, naked inmates just walk around fleetingly. Conjugal visits occur infrequently, in which there is heterosexual sex.

A young girl is murdered by two older woman. Very disturbing.

A goat is shot and sliced open. A dead fetus falls out of the corpse. Very bloody.

"Fuck", "shit", "bitch", "ass", "asshole", "pussy", "tits", "cunt", and "whore" are said throughout the show alongside racist, ableist, and homophobic slurs.

Drugs are mentioned frequently in context with criminal justice. A few flashback scenes depict drug dealing. Characters rarely drink on-screen. A character overdoses on drugs and dies; many characters speak longingly of drugs and alcohol. A subplot revolves around smuggling cigarettes.

There is action and physical violence including murder, beatings, bullying, intimidation, etc.
