    something else

In times where everything looks like something else and every series conforms to formulas hatched out in writing seminars, Out There strikes me as one thing in particular: honest.

It's not pretentious about wanting to be hip or fitting in with the crowd. It can stand for its own. Starting with the visuals, which confuse the feeble minded (how can a dog or bunny-like character talk and walk like a human, right?!) and goes right down to the storyline and dialog.

It's not like I am waiting for the next pun. It's not Big Bang Theory, where you know what is coming next. The surprise is in not knowing what you are in for and despite having watched every episode, I feel there is much left to learn about Chad in particular and his way of looking at the world. I feel that this is a view that many have shared through their coming of age and most have lost later, in favor of something more fashionable or by mouthing after some trend. Chad is a character that gets me to think about myself. And that is a rare trend in cartoon or any kind of entertainment for me. I don't believe this show is intended for children at all, but they will see their own truths in it.

The laughs don't come off a tape in this series, but they sure come anyways. And I find myself sitting and waiting for more, because this show makes me think about what I've seen and doesn't abuse my emotions like so many other shows do. Writing always follows a formula, but in the case of Out There it is a heartfelt formula which translates to the open minded viewer. I hope there will be more of it.

I don't know what to make of this show.

It definitely triggers feelings of depression and anxiety. So awkward, I just couldn't handle it.

    Pretty niche and polarizing

Apparently you either enjoy this show or hate it. I personally enjoyed it, but I like my humor to be on the dryer, bleaker side. Although idk if I would like this show as much without Roiland in it. Roiland's character very much has that Roilandesque feel to it. I'd watch more of it if they made more.

    A Pleasant Surprise

Short Review: It's clever, unique, and relatable Longer Review: I like to keep shows on in the corner of my computer while I'm at work for white noise & some laughs. After going through Futurama, Family Guy, The Office, South Park, Rick and Morty, Parks and Rec, and Adventure Time, in their entirety, for the millionth time, I decided to take a chance and choose something new. It was a terrible idea. I couldn't get any work done because I kept getting sucked in. I found myself immediately pulled in by the familiar vocal talents of Justin Roiland (Rick and Morty, Adventure Time, Gravity Falls), John DiMaggio (Futurama, Adventure Time, Disenchantment), Fred Armisen (SNL, Unbreakble Kimmy Schmidt, Archer), and so many more. However, what I truly appreciated was the humor. If you go in expecting the jokes used in Ryan Quincy's more popular show, South Park, then you'll find yourself disappointed. I love crass, obvious humor as much as the nest guy (for instance, I've seen every episode of South Park & Family Guy at least twice), but I also enjoy the more quirky, situational humor "Out There" has to offer. While you can skip to pretty much any scene in South Park and discover something crazy or gross to laugh about, Out There offers a deeper kind of humor that takes you on a journey of relatable shenanigans and familiar snafus. To me, it feels more intimate, like an inside joke only you get because you know the characters and what wild decisions landed them where they are. I find it to be a much less cringey tale of puberty than the more recently released sseries, Big Mouth. Damn shame it only lasted a season.

    Nostalgic, Realistic and overall Enjoyable.

It's not very funny, nor is it very empathetic, or try hard to be an adult cartoon, or a kids cartoon, or really anything. I feel like that's the beauty of it. There wasn't anything creative aside from the designs, the atmosphere and setting felt pretty identical to the real life, and anything that happens in the show could have realistically happened in real life. Nothing too creative with this show, but the stories it tried to tell were spectacular. Probably one of my favorite shows, and one of my best inspirations. Thank you, Ryan Quincy.
