If you haven’t taken the leap to bundle Disney+ and Hulu, it might be time. Streaming is only getting more expensive and competitive, and the enticing bundle (which also includes ESPN) might be a version of cable TV, but it’s also just cost efficient. Disney+ and Hulu are so intertwined that their monthly listing updates come in the same email — and as such, we decided to compile them here for you in the same list.
Whether you have Disney+ or Hulu, or both (and the IndieWire staff has weighed on our favorites), each has its benefits. Disney has the family-friendly titles, the Star Wars and Marvel (new episodes of “The Bad Batch” and “X-Men: 97” continue through April), while Hulu is the place to catch FX originals and network episodes. Both streamers have the rights to distribute National Geographic titles, which are well worth exploring along with the rest of the library.

Kristen Stewart's career has shifted away from big-budget Hollywood blockbusters, resulting in mixed quality movies. Despite this, her 2020 Christmas rom-com "Happiest Season" stands out as one of her best movies since 2014. The film appeals to critics and audiences by offering a mainstream queer narrative that is funny, heartwarming, and showcases Stewart's strengths.
Kristen Stewart’s output since 2014 has endured mixed results, meaning a 2020 Christmas movie remains one of her best over the past decade. Since starring in the Twilight films, Kristen Stewart's career has gradually veered away from big-budget Hollywood blockbusters. The star’s filmography after Breaking Dawn - Part 2 primarily consists of lower-budget fare, and Stewart does not even appear in The Huntsman: Winter’s War, despite having starred in the previous installment. While this apparent preference for modest budgets gives the star more mobility, it hasn’t resulted in consistently high quality movies.

Craig Mazin recently told the Los Angeles Times that the script for “Pirates of the Caribbean 6” is so weird he is surprised Disney actually bought it. Variety reported in summer 2020 that Disney was in early development on two “Pirates” movies: A reboot led by Margot Robbie and a sixth film in the original franchise written by Mazin and Ted Elliott, the latter of whom co-wrote the first four “Pirates” movies.
“We pitched it and thought there’s no way they’re buying it, it’s too weird,” Mazin said. “And they did! And then he wrote a fantastic script and the strike happened and everyone’s waiting around.”
The last “Pirates” movie, “Dead Men Tell No Tales,” opened in 2017. Robbie told Vanity Fair last November that her movie, written by “Birds of Prey” scribe Christina Hodson, had been dropped, adding, “We had an idea and we were developing it for a while,...

Over eight years after the commercial failure of “Blackhat,” director Michael Mann is putting the blame where he feels it belongs: Michael Mann.
While promoting the upcoming Adam Driver vehicle “Ferrari” in an interview with Variety, the filmmaker briefly fell on his sword concerning the $70 million R-rated actioner. In January of 2015, it earned mixed-to-negative reviews and just $20 million at the global box office.
“It’s my responsibility,” Mann told the publication. “The script was not ready to shoot.” Like many of Mann’s pictures, “Blackhat” has gained a cult audience since its theatrical release, as well as a restructured director’s cut. While Mann blames himself, it also ran into the newfangled notion of audiences not wanting to see a big new movie star outside of his marquee character role.
Moviegoers didn’t care about Chris Hemsworth — talent and charisma notwithstanding — when he wasn’t playing Thor in the MCU.

Key takeaways: Greta Gerwig's Barbie movie had Easter Eggs for Barbie fanatics, including a cameo by Sugar Daddy Ken. Growing Up Skipper and Earring Magic Ken were discontinued due to controversy, with concerns over sexualization and being too weird. Sugar Daddy Ken was released in 2010 as part of Barbie's Palm Beach line and was named after his pet dog, causing marketing misfire and controversy, leading to its discontinuation.
Greta Gerwig’s Barbie was not just a revisionist satire on the toy corporation Mattel but it also featured numerous Easter Eggs for diehard Barbie fanatics, such as a blink-and-miss cameo by Sugar Daddy Ken. Starring Margot Robbie as a self-aware Barbie in a vibrant Utopia filled with many more Barbies and Kens, Gerwig and Noah Baumbach’s screenplay accommodated Barbie-specific references, like a scene featuring Barbie creator Ruth Handler and several discontinued Mattel toys like the Growing Up Skipper and Earring Magic Ken dolls.

Witch movies have been all the rage since the dawn of cinema, and audiences have flocked to the theater to receive a chill or thrill from Hollywood's greatest conjurers. Transcending their horror roots and branching into nearly every genre, the witch movie typically combines the alluring mysticism of magic with subtle commentary about the history of the mistreatment of women. Often imbued with feminist messaging whether subtle or overt, witch movies have usually been a safe haven for strong female characters who can express their power through the spiritual. Versatility is the subgenre's greatest strength, and the witch movie will likely never go out of style.
Running the gamut from overt horror to goofball comedy, witch movies have long held sway over audiences because of their escapism, and the subtle way in which they touch on darker topics. Even sillier witch movies have a sinister edge, and that dual nature...

With the second film a disappointment, some might not have had hope for The Huntsman 3 movie news. The fantasy epic Snow White And The Huntsman was one of several high-profile movies that offered new takes on Brothers Grimm fairytales in the hope of launching new franchises. Despite being a solid hit back in 2013, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters hasn't received a follow-up either, though Disney and Angelina Jolie's Maleficent spawned a sequel in 2019.
Snow White And The Huntsman cast Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth as the title characters, with Charlize Theron playing villain Queen Ravenna. The 2012 adventure was a surprise success, despite the overall critical reception being mixed. Work soon began on a follow-up, though instead of being a direct sequel, it became a spinoff focusing on Hemsworth's Huntsman instead. The Huntsman: Winter's War also brought back Charlize Theron and added Jessica Chastain and Emily Blunt. The movie arrived in 2016 and,...

In The Huntsman: Winter’s War, the villainous ice queen Freya’s name and powers have a rich backstory in fairy tales and mythology. The character is played by Emily Blunt in the 2016 fantasy film, which is both a prequel and sequel to 2012’s Snow White and The Huntsman. The films are both gritty fairy tale retellings set in a fantasy world inspired by Snow White by the Brothers Grimm. While Kristen Stewart did not return for the sequel to reprise her role as Snow White, The Huntsman retains plenty of star power, adding Emily Blunt and Jessica Chastain to its ensemble.

Actor Sam Claflin has had a storied career in the industry, but his portrayal of William, aka Prince Charming, in the Snow White and the Huntsman franchise begs the question of why he hasn't led his own Disney live-action remake as a prince. Disney's next live-action remake is 2024's Snow White, starring Rachel Zegler as the titular princess, Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, and Andrew Burnap as new character Jonathan. However, a live-action retelling of the classic Grimm Brothers fairy tale with a special twist, spearheaded by Universal, was released back in 2012, featuring Sam Claflin as Snow White's one true love.

Released four years after Snow White and the Huntsman, 2016’s The Huntsman: Winter’s War continued reinterpreting the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm with an even bigger cast. While the first movie revolved around Snow White and the huntsman Eric’s efforts at defeating the evil queen Ravenna, The Huntsman: Winter’s War takes place both before and after this battle. This time around, Eric’s origins in another Queen’s army along with his forbidden romance with a fellow warrior are also touched upon. The ambitious fairy tale epic was directed by the first movie’s visual effects supervisor Cedric Nicolas-Troyan and written by The Last of Us and Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin.

Frozen has a high chance of receiving a Disney live-action remake, but Emily Blunt has already played the Snow Queen in a $115 million box office bomb. Frozen became a smash hit for Disney upon its release in 2013 as it flipped the Disney Princess trope on its head. Instead of the typical damsel in distress being saved by a prince, Frozen explored the relationship between sisters and showed the villain is not always who it seems. The film's success was followed by Frozen II in 2019, which dove deeper into Elsa’s ice power, the history of Anna and Elsa’s parents, and the world outside Arendelle.
A Disney live-action remake of Frozen has not yet been announced and probably will not be developed in the near future, mainly due to the upcoming animated sequel Frozen III. Further highlighting Frozen's massive popularity, it's rare for Disney Princess franchises to get a third movie,...

Once again. “John Wick: Chapter 4” (Lionsgate) ($5.99) is #1 at iTunes and Google Play, while “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” at $19.99 (Universal) is #1 at Vudu.
Like most weeks, Netflix’s top 10 movie list is topsy-turvy. New at #1 is “Run Rabbit Run,” an Australian horror film the streamer acquired out of the Sundance Film Festival’s Midnight section. It stars “Succession” actress Sarah Snook as a fertility doctor who notices her daughter’s strange behavior.
Beyond that, “Mario” is in two second-place spots while “Fast X” is #2 at Vudu, helped by its $19.99 price. “The Covenant” (MGM) is #3 at iTunes, “The Machine” (Sony) at $19.99 #3 at Vudu, with “Fast X” taking third at Google Play.

While Kristen Stewart headlined the original 2012 film of The Huntsman franchise, quite a few dilemmas kept her from returning for the prequel/sequel, The Huntsman: Winter's War. Back in the 2010s, a resurgence of interest in the Brothers Grimm fairy tales brought on the making of 2012's darkly skewed, action-packed Snow White and the Hunstman. Starring Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth in the title roles, Snow White and the Huntsman was indeed a lukewarm revision of the Brothers Grimm tale but made due on heavy action and great visuals, which helped the franchise get green lighted for a sequel.
A follow-up to Snow White and the Huntsman seemed like an effortlessly great idea, as Chris Hemsworth's ever-growing acting career was at a high in the 2010s, and similarly, Kristen Stewart's career was trending after Twilight and the phenomenon behind the saga that carried through the decade. Do not adjust your phone screen. You are not experiencing deja vu. Netflix’s list of new releases for July 2023 does indeed look quite a bit like last month’s.

Now Henry Cavill’s arc as Geralt of Rivia is set to officially end with this batch of three episodes. Get ready for the Liam Hemsworth era, Witcher fans. Other Netflix Original series of note in July 2023 are The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 on July 6, Sonic Prime season 2 on July 13 and the animated comedy Captain Fall on July 28.
Meanwhile it’s a big month for Netflix’s original movies department. Adam Devine-starring comedy The Out-Laws premieres on July 7. That will be followed by Bird Box...

Extraction 2 sets Chris Hemsworth's Tyler Rake on another deadly mission, though it at least gives him time to recover from the original movie's ending. Outside of his MCU role as Thor, Hemsworth hasn't had the best of luck when it comes to franchises. Ghostbusters 2016 failed to launch planned sequels, while Men In Black: International and The Huntsman: Winter's War also underperformed. His fortunes have turned around thanks to Extraction, with the Netflix original giving him a more grounded, mature vehicle to show off his action prowess.
Extraction's divisive ending hinted at Rake's survival after he was shot in the neck and fell from a bridge. Extraction 2 reveals how he survived his injuries, and he's later recruited to extract the family of a Georgian gangster from prison. Naturally, this mission doesn't go according to plan and Tyler and his team have to fight/shoot/explode their way out of trouble.

The Unholy is a horror movie directed by Evan Spiliotopoulos starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan. It is based on the novel written by James Herbert.
A supernatural horror film about miracles and apparitions, with a lot of religion (Catholic this time) and some clichés that work in lightweight horror films that work in a film that treads a firm ground without any risks…
Plot of The Unholy
A journalist with no scruples on the hunt for a scoop runs into the miracle of an apparition… and something else.
Movie Review The Unholy (2021)
If you like religion themed films, then this one is just about okay, it has its film touch (a little too much if you have watched movies for some time). It has touches of The Exorcist, apparitions like in The Ring and many others. Here and there, reputed screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos directs his first feature film cleverly but staying...

Exclusive: Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group Motion Pictures has tapped screenwriter Evan Daugherty (Divergent) to pen the sci-fi action feature, The Ultimate Weapon. The film based on a story by Allen will be financed by Amgmp, with exec producers to include Allen, Carolyn Folks, Jennifer Lucas and Matthew Signer.
The Ultimate Weapon takes place in a version of the present day where World War II is not over. In fact, history has shown us that the Nazis were actually researching a weapon far greater than the atomic bomb, investing heavily in the ability to achieve time travel. Do you know what's the only quest tougher than Frodo traveling all that way to cast the One Ring into the fires of Mount Doom? Attempting to one-up the wildly successful first season of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power." After introducing us to a brand-new batch of characters and getting all the necessary table-setting out of the way, season 2 appears set to pick up where the finale left off and run with it. The first step to realizing that ambition, of course, means adding even more major players to the ensemble. Less than a week after the first batch of new names were announced to join the sophomore effort of this epic fantasy streaming series, yet another group of actors have joined the cast in what's being described as recurring roles.
What are those roles, exactly? Well, as has been the case, those details remain locked...

One of two major fantasy television hits this year came in the form of a Lord of the Rings show. Amazon’s The Rings of Power boasted huge numbers when the big-budget series premiered. Oliver Alvin-Wilson’s television credits include The Bay (ITV), as “Guy Townsend,” Murder in Provence (ITV) as “Luc Martinez,” Collateral (BBC) as ”Chips Benson” and Lovesick (Netflix) as “Alex.” In film, Oliver has been seen in Harkness, Wonder Woman 1984, and The Huntsman. Stuart Bowman

Gabriel Akuwudike, Yasen Atour, Amelia Kenworthy, Nia Towle, Ben Daniels, Nicholas Woodeson, and Sam Hazeldine have been cast in the series, which serves as a prequel to J.R.R. Warning! This article may contain minor Spoilers for the movie! The School for Good and Evil opens its doors for session and introduces its cast and characters inhabiting a reimagined fairytale world. Based on the fantasy hexalogy book series by Soman Chainani, Netflix’s the School for Good and Evil follows best friends, Sophie and Agatha, who are abducted to attend a prestigious, magical boarding school where children are trained to become princes, princesses, and witches in their own storybooks. However, Sophie is sent to the School of Evil and Agatha to the School of Good, a mistake they believe should be the other way around.
Originally, Universal Pictures picked up the live-action rights for a book-to-screen adaptation of the School of Good and Evil in 2013. However, production of the project only made headway in 2020 when Netflix announced its takeover, immediately bringing on board A Simple Favor director Paul Feig.

It’s 1997, and 12 year old Grace (Niamh Walter) is joining her friend Asta (Nyobi Hendry) and Asta’s mother Kate (Rebecca Palmer) on a summer holiday to Cornwall. On the cusp of adolescence, Grace and Asta often play like children, but Grace in particular seems to want to move beyond more childish things. Meanwhile, Kate takes in a younger man named Sid (Zaqui Ismail), who had been sleeping in the woods.
At the heart of Summer in the Shade is a relatively simple coming of age story, much of it centred on Grace’s clear admiration for Kate. At various moments we see Grace surreptitiously observing the older woman, and especially her growing flirtation with Sid, but the major visualisation of this theme comes late on when, after an argument with Asta, Grace puts on some of Kate’s red lipstick, takes her case of cigarettes (or joints?) and walks to the local village.

Netflix's "Kate" doesn't hide its influences -- it wears them loudly and proudly. For director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, those references aren't the films the trailer suggests. It's certainly no "Crank" or an excellent old-school noir, "D.O.A.," but was inspired by the anime Nicolas-Troyan consumed as a kid in France, long before his days as a soldier and visual effects supervisor.
Nicolas-Troyan worked on "One Hour Photo," "The Ring," and "The Weatherman" before he finally took a seat in the director's chair. His feature debut was "The Huntsman: Winter's War," but "Kate" is perhaps closer to his personal taste and style. It's a hitman...

Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays a killer with 24 hours to live in a familiarly plotted yet diverting enough Japan-set thriller
There’s nothing particularly inventive about the Netflix action thriller Kate – from the director of The Huntsman: Winter’s War, Cedric Nicolas-Troyan – the streamer’s umpteenth bullets over brains offering this year, but there’s also nothing particularly heinous in its execution, a to-the-point two-hour slab of pulp that slickly glides above a very low bar. The platform’s flatly directed, often incompetently choreographed churn of action content has meant that a sudden whiff of style and a glimpse of an actual location suddenly jolts one from a drift of sleep to a mild amount of attention.

“You’re a Terminator,” Tokyo teen Ani (Miku Patricia Martineau) gapes to Kate (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) after witnessing the bloodshed her kidnapper has brought down on two dozen yakuza now lying shot, stabbed, sizzled on a yakitori grill and very, very dead. Kate, the titular antihero of director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan’s vicious vengeance flick, is a grown-up child assassin trained by her mentor (Woody Harrelson) in the art of death, a fate so common among on-screen orphans that their support group could fill a church basement. Yes, she can rack up quite the Schwarzenegger-esque kill count. But Kate’s Terminator resemblance also includes her left eye’s red and distended pupil, evidence of the polonium poisoning that will kill her in 24 hours. Other symptoms of this gimmick include blistered skin, pounding eardrums, wobbly knees and an urgency to take an entire gangster clan along with her to the grave. There is no cure.

Netflix continues its new-found love for action movies with a new trailer for the upcoming revenge thriller, Kate. While not much footage from the movie has been revealed until now, the marketing so far has already had action movie fans talking, with many comparing lead star Mary Elizabeth Winstead to other female action movie icons such as Ripley and Sarah Connor. Comparisons which the new trailer certainly helps cement.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead has already showed that she’s more than capable of leading an action movie, thanks to her supporting role as Huntress in the DC Comics tentpole “Birds of Prey,” and now she’s getting the star vehicle she deserves with Netflix’s ticking-clock assassin thriller “Kate.” Winstead stars in the eponymous role opposite Woody Harrelson. The movie was helmed by French director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, perhaps best known to U.S. audiences for directing the “Snow White and the Hunstman” sequel “The Huntsman: Winter’s War.”
The official synopsis for “Kate” from Netflix reads: “Meticulous and preternaturally skilled, Kate is the perfect specimen of a finely tuned assassin at the height of her game. But when she uncharacteristically blows an assignment targeting a member of the yakuza in Tokyo, she quickly discovers she’s been poisoned, a brutally slow execution that gives her less than 24 hours to exact revenge on her killers.

"Kate, you're like that person in that nightmare - take no sh*t from no dudes." Netflix has unveiled the first official trailer for a new action movie called Kate, the latest feature made by the VFX supervisor-turned-director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, who last directed the sequel The Huntsman: Winter's War. There’s no time for mercy. After she's poisoned, a ruthless criminal operative has less than 24 hours to exact revenge on her enemies and in the process forms an unexpected bond with the daughter of one of her past victims. This seems like a killer action concept mashing up Kill Bill and Jolt with Gunpowder Milkshake, but with Mary Elizabeth Winstead starring as the action badass Kate in this one. In addition to Mew, the impressive full cast also includes Tadanobu Asano, Miyavi, Michiel Huisman, plus Jun Kunimura and Woody Harrelson, and introducing Miku Martineau. The best thing about this is that it's set in Japan.

Zegler is a rising singer, actress, and established YouTuber who will also be debuting in her first landmark role in Steven Spielberg's West Side Story in December.
Rachel Zegler auditioned as a teenager amongst "30,000 other girls" for the role of Maria in Spielberg's musical remake. Her talent caught the eye of Disney, leading them to select her for another role as Snow White.

While there is little known about the cast of HBO's upcoming TV adaptation of hit video game, The Last of Us, we know that Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal will be playing the lead roles of Ellie and Joel. However, according to a new claim by insider DanielRPK, there was another major star offered the role first, Matthew McConaughey. Sadly for his fans, the actor wasn't interested in the part, leading to The Mandalorian's Pascal taking the lead instead.
When the cast announcement was originally made, the news received a mixed response from fans. The first footage from Netflix's upcoming action flick Kate has now exploded online, with Scott Pilgrim vs. the World star Mary Elizabeth Winstead shooting up a storm on her quest for revenge. Make no mistake, the bad guys are definitely going to know she was here. A brand new story and way more fun than Maleficent or Universal’s...
