Ummmmm,Chorabali has its perks, its moments, its stars, and its definitely not a wastage of money. Shohidujjaman Selim, ATM Shamsujjaman and Iresh Zaker all gave a terrific performance. Especially Selim, he demands a standing ovation. Inndraneil was the perfect protagonist for this film, though I had my doubts whether he could pull it off, and well, he did. The rest of the cast really let the movie down. And the screenplay was good, really good, but only partially, as Selim's, Indraneil's and ATM's character continuously stole the spotlight. Some of their dialogues would dig themselves deep into your skulls and will soon be spreading mouth to mouth. Soundtrack was really bad. Cinematography was good though, worth watching. To me, the story seemed like homage to our clichéd stories of films. The item song was horrible, musically and visually, seemed like "a high school production at its worst". Kudos to the director for making a two-hour-entertainer for us crowds, and a solid entertainer at that. It's not an unintended parody like MA Jalil ones, it's not that memes based on the film entertains you, the film entertains you. Must be a bright future ahead, for the director, and our film industry
Well, I never guessed that Bangla Movie has still some serious potential. I expected some promotion but not this drastic evolution. Story, costume, and the main part acting was totally superb. Special Ali- Usman(Shahiduzzaman Selim)and Siraj bhai(ATM Shamsuzzaman) was the most critical yet successful characters. Every actor gave their best and the direction was very creative. In Bangladeshi perspective, in every aspects it had a symbolic meaning like misuse of political power, courage of the crime reporters, the local village judge and their true form etc. You may sat that i am only expressing the positive sight?! Well the movie had some lacking too. This movie may had budget crisis cause the lacking of human in the sight of Ali-Usman was eye catching and the power and position of Siraj bhai was unclear too. In action i will give this movie 8/10 cause in the last time, terrorists had some chance to shot Sumon but they didn't. But still it is the best action thriller i have ever seen in Bangladesh. In the end, i would like to thank Redowan Roni for this great movie. Good job Roni, now we expect more from you...
Saw this movie tonight. As RR's first movie it was good .But its definitely not a great Bangla movie.
I liked the acting of most actors.Selim and ATM and did a spectacular job.Joya and Indraneil's performance was decent too.Except for the model and the doctor everyone was pretty good.
The cinematography was not too bad but in some shots it felt like i was watching a crappy Indian TV drama.I didn't like the plot that much.it definitely could have been way better. Joya's character should have been developed more.liked the end twist but still felt like it wasn't thrilling enough. But i do appreciate some realistic plot line like corrupt politics of BD,horrible abuse on women in villages.
Please RR,Don't put item numbers in your next films.we as Bangladeshis should try to create our own identity ,copying Bollywood ain't gonna help that.item numbers are cheap tricks for cheap publicity.it actually looks ridiculous and the audience usually just end up thinking that its another 'cheap commercial movie'.
Still as his first feature film i think he did a decent job.Its worth watching once

OK, let me make one thing clear first. Chorabali isn't any masterpiece. Yet, people are praising it because of one reason. The director, Redoan Roni made a fully mainstream commercial cinema at a time when the industry seems to be dying. When his own peers (i.e. Mustafa Kamal Raaz etc) and even his mentor (Sarwar Farooki) are making extended TV dramas (or are they Telefilms?) and releasing them in 1 or 2 cinema halls and premiering them on TV on the first day itself. They need to stop kidding themselves and the audience. Those long dramas are not feature films and are clearly made for the TV screen. In such circumstances, Roni broke the barrier and made a true mainstream Bangla cinema. It's not an art film which caters to only the high class people. It has action, romance, drama and even an item song (although poorly executed).
So, the story revolves around a killer who serves a corrupt politician. The story is highly relevant to Bangladeshi society. However, there are some major plot holes here and there. The director lefts some important questions unanswered. Thus, the story ultimately falls short. However, the director's sincerity makes up for it. You will never guess that it is Roni's first film. He shows complete control of his content. The scenes are executed professionally, specially the camera angles are highly effective. The cinematography is world class. The director of photography was in terrific form and no Bangladeshi cinema had this good visuals before this. The background score is good. however the music was wasted because only short versions were played in the background. And the only song which was fully picturised was the item song which was not visually pleasant.
Indraneel was good as the main protagonist. He is an established actor and that shows in the confidence with which he carried out his role. His toned physique and melancholy personality added to the role. Joya Ahsan wasn't given a meaty role. So she is relegated to just emanating beauty on the screen and she does that with panache. But, the show stealer was Shahidujjaman Selim. He was a complete package. He was perfect as the heinous villain. Every scene was done with conviction and a touch of humanity. Hats off to this man as he is the one who makes you forget about the weak plot and just enjoy the dialogues instead.
Overall, it is an OK film. Not more, not less. As Roni's first film we can certainly be generous and forgive him for the plot. But next time we wish Roni doesn't write the story himself and instead finds a good scriptwriter. Also, having all the actors from Bangladesh would also help strike a chord with the Bangladeshi audience. I wanted to give it a 6 but I gave one point extra considering it was Roni's first film and because of Shadiujjaman Selim's performance. It is a highly watchable film and every Bengali should watch it at least once and encourage young directors like Roni to make better cinema.
This film is light-years ahead of the other mainstream movies being made in Bangladesh, but still has a long way to go before it becomes world class. But this just might be the kick the industry needed to go bring back the golden age of cinema back from the grave!

So Redoan Rony (RR) has made a decent start in film-making unlike other 'television drama' director cum film-maker in Bangladesh. Though I expected a bit more from 'Chorabali' by watching RR's versatile dramas and serials made for TV but I'm well satisfied with this. As a débutant, RR has done a great job, at least he's succeeded to show how to make an entertaining commercial film in Dhallywood. RR's story telling is good but the screenplay is so banal which makes the film somewhere monotonous. So,I hope he'll have a cautious look on the screenplay from his next film and wish him good luck.
