Legacy of the Cannibal God (2002)
*** (out of 4)
This interview with Sergio Martino can be found on Anchor Bay's THE MOUNTAIN OF THE CANNIBAL GOD disc, which is now available through Blue Underground. This 13-minute interview is certainly full of wonderful information on the film but it also doesn't let Martino get away with a lie he tells. The featurette tells the typical stuff like why he wanted to make a cannibal movie, which his obvious answer is the money that they were making back in the day. He talks about working with Stacy Keach and Ursula Andress as well as with Claudio Cassinelli who ended up being killed on a movie directed by Martino. The real animal violence is also discussed but like most of the directors who made these movies, Martino makes a claim that the scene where the snake eats a monkey was something they just happened upon. I give the company credit for calling out this lie and showing that in fact there was a device used to throw the monkey at the snake. Fans of the film will certainly want to check this out as it contains a lot of good stuff about the making of the film.
