It’s not just Marvel and DC characters who we can look forward to seeing in theatres over the next few years, as independent comics company Valiant Entertainment is also working to get in on the lucrative superhero cinematic universe game. In fact, they’ve just taken another giant step forward today, as Shadowman, one of several projects of theirs that are currently in development, has now found its director.
The Hollywood Reporter is telling us that Reginald Hudlin, who’s set to make his directorial debut on upcoming thriller Marshall, has signed on to helm the movie. The filmmaker will be most well known to comic book fans for his four year stint writing Black Panther for Marvel from 2005 to 2008. Most notably, the hero married X-Men member Storm during Hudlin’s run.

I’ve done a couple of posts about Valiant comics, regarding cameo appearances and highlighting what issues from the new (post-2012) Valiant universe that may be worth keeping an eye on, but I thought it might be time too look at Valiant as a whole now that we’ve got more than just rumors about Valiant films with what seems to be a solid commitment and direction from Sony in bringing Valiant to the big screen. I thought it might be time to drop a list of ten taking into account the entire rich history of Valiant comics now that it’s just too late to buy them at near record low prices.
I want to point out that these ten aren’t a secret. Valiant has had a small dedicated base that survived its fall after mainstream success of the early ’90s, and the truth is many of the...

To hear J. Michael Straczynski tell it, Valiant Comics is looking to get in on the action currently dominated by Marvel and D.C. by developing their own Valiant Cinematic Movie Universe. Which actually sounds pretty good. Hell, I wouldn’t mind seeing a “Solar” movie myself. Straczynski is of course most famous for plotting the 5-year run of the sci-fi show “Babylon 5″, but in recent years has made a name for himself as a movie screenwriter (along with a healthy amount of script doctoring work). He’s also the current screenwriter on record for Valiant’s “Shadowman”, one of the company’s ongoing stabs at a movie based on one of their comic books (along with “Harbinger” and “Bloodshot”). Talking with MTV, Straczynski revealed how he became involved in adapting “Shadowman”, and his current approach to the task: They approached me last year and said, ‘We want to...

MTV Geek recently caught up with J. Michael Straczynski and inquired about his current project of penning a feature film for Valiant Comics’ Shadowman property. Much like Marvel/Disney and DC Comics/Warner Bros., Valiant is currently looking to explore bringing some of their stable characters to an expansive cinematic universe, focusing first on Bloodshot and Shadowman. Valiant CEO Jason Kothari has stated that “Shadowman is the first in a large slate of film projects that we are developing and funding internally at Valiant.”
At this current rate, MTV reports that the first draft for Shadowman may be submitted as early as this Spring with plans to begin filming in early 2014. The film is currently being produced by Valiant’s Jason Kothari and Dinesh Shamdasani and the Sean Daniel Company’s Daniel and Jason Brown. Straczynski is currently slated to serve as the executive producer.

"Babylon 5" showrunner J. Michael Straczynski is diving into the world of comic book movies again. This time, he's penning the script for Valiant Comics' "Shadowman" movie, and he gave MTV Geek the scoop about his plans.
"They approached me last year and said, 'We want to do a feature film of this character. Will you write it for us?'" Straczynski recalled. "And I said, 'Absolutely,' because A, I like jazz, B, I like the supernatural, and there's a really cool mix between those two, not just in terms of the usual New Orleans, Voodoo environment, but what is music but incantation of sorts?"
He continued, "We had talked about the difference between the 'Shadowman' movie and the 'Shadowman' comic, and the good thing is that the folks involved understand that there's a difference between a movie and a comic book. There were times when they said, 'We're doing this in the book,...
