Adam Sandler’s multi-year deal with Netflix has resulted in movies reviled (The Ridiculous 6), revered (Uncut Gems), and — with the new film Spaceman — bewildering and deliberately open to interpretation. “It’s like reading a book, listening to a song, or reading a poem, whatever,” director Johan Renck told RadioTimes.com. “Your own experiences will guide how you take in the film, basically.” So, what’s up with Spaceman’s ending? And what does it all mean? Here’s what we’ve gleaned… In the film — written by Colby Day and based on the Jaroslav Kalfař novel Spaceman of Bohemia — Sandler plays Jakub Procházka, a Czech astronaut six months into a Euro Space Program mission to investigate the mysterious space dust of our solar system’s (fictitious) Chopra cloud. As the sole astronaut on the mission, Jakub has ample time to reflect on his life, including his failing relationship with...

Although Netflix now dominates the film industry with its monopoly over movie stars and award season, the streaming service first took a risk in making original film projects with Adam Sandler. Sandler’s contract to produce and star in original films for Netflix may have seemed odd in 2015. In hindsight, the “Sandman” appeared to have more insight than anyone into where the industry would head. He has positioned himself to have even more success in the next few years, as Netflix has produced all sorts of projects for Sandler: they’ve even gotten behind Sandler’s unusual dramatic turn in Hustle, his animated family film Leo, his daughters' breakout acting roles in You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah, the emotional stand-up special 100% Fresh, and his newest sci-fi drama, Spaceman. However, Sandler’s history with Netflix isn't without its controversies. In fact, Sandler’s first Netflix film, The Ridiculous 6,...

If Interstellar's (2014) tesseract isn't your thing, then perhaps a purple cloud and an anthropomorphic arachnid are more your speed. Spaceman (2024), a contemplative two-hander featuring Adam Sandler and a spider, is, all things considered, not quite as riveting as Christopher Nolan's 2014 film, but it has some similar ideas on its mind. As a matter of fact, there's also a bit of Ad Astra (2019) in there as well, given that more or less the prime reason for space-set dramas nowadays has far less to do with Star Trek's culture-collecting campaign across the "final frontier," and more to do with people who'd like to be as far away from the sphere of domesticity as possible.
In Nolan's film, Matthew McConaughey's Cooper, a reenlisted NASA pilot and father of a teenage girl, is tasked with wormholing his way throughout the galaxy in search of a habitable alternative to a dying Earth.

Adam Sandler has set a new comedy special at Netflix — this time directed by Josh Safdie.
The project continues Sandler’s string of collaborations with Safie, who co-directed him in 2019’s “Uncut Gems” alongside his brother Benny Safdie. Sandler also starred in the brothers’ 2020 short film “Goldman v. Silverman” and is set to lead an upcoming feature set in the world of sports memorabilia to be directed by Josh and produced by Benny, though the latter told Variety in January that the film was “on pause.”
Currently untitled, the special will be Sandler’s second at Netflix, following up on his 2018 set “100% Fresh” — which went on to receive a 90% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. Sandler has worked on numerous projects for Netflix: In 2023, he led the voice cast of the streamer’s animated musical comedy film “Leo” and starred opposite Idina Menzel in “You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah,...

Adam Sandler's upcoming sequel to "Leo" is expected to be better than his last sequel, "Murder Mystery 2." "Leo" received positive reviews and had a successful debut, making a sequel highly likely. Sandler's recent films on Netflix have shown a positive turnaround in quality, including "Leo," indicating his improvement on the streaming platform.
Adam Sandler has produced and starred in many Netflix movies over the past few years, and a recently teased sequel will likely be better than his previous follow-up film. Sandler began working on original Netflix movies in 2015, and some of his titles included The Ridiculous 6, Sandy Wexler, and The Week Of. The actor and the streaming platform made their partnership official when Netflix and Sandler's production company, Happy Madison Productions, agreed on a four-movie deal reportedly worth $275 million in 2020. However, Sandler has made more than four films for Netflix since signing the contract.

Netflix can't seem to get enough of Adam Sandler.
Over the past several years, Adam Sandler has starred in many Netflix movies, but only one has been given a sequel -- Murder Mystery. That's set to soon change, as revealed by Netflix co-chief executive officer Ted Sarandos. In a conversation with TheWrap, Sarandos confirmed that there are active talks at Netflix to make a sequel to the animated feature film Leo. Released on Netflix in November 2023, the film features Sandler as the voice of the titular reptile, and the actor also served as a co-writer and producer on the film. Reviews were mostly positive, and the film also set a Netflix record as the most-watched debut for any animated film on the streaming platform.

Netflix viewers love Snyder’s critically mauled sci-fi film and Christopher Nolan has suggested he is a seminal influence. Is this a triumphant rise from the ashes of the DC extended universe ?
What does it mean that Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon was this week sitting pretty at the top of the Netflix Top 10, other than that viewers of the app will watch pretty much anything? This is after all, the streaming service that gave Adam Sandler, the actor-producer behind such totems of modern cinema as Jack and Jill, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry and Grown Ups 2 a multiple movie contract as far back as 2014. One of the films that sprang fully formed from that deal like a putrid zombie hydra head was 2015’s execrable The Ridiculous 6, which boasts an impressive 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. But boy was it popular – maybe these guys just know their audience.

While Greta Gerwig’s directing career skyrocketed with Barbie, it shouldn’t be overlooked that the screenplay for the year’s biggest movie was co-written by Marriage Story‘s Noah Baumbach. Baumbach would also produce the film alongside Gerwig and Barbie star Margot Robbie. Baumbach’s career with Netflix consists of three features in addition to Marriage Story, including White Noise and The Meyerowitz Stories, starring Adam Sandler.
Baumbach is now tapped to helm his fourth project with the streamer. He’ll be reuniting with Sandler and pairing him with George Clooney for the new project, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The details for the movie’s plot has yet to be revealed, but Baumbach is also on board as a producer on the movie. He will be joined by Sony’s Amy Pascal and David Heyman as producers. Heyman had also worked with Baumbach on Marriage Story and also produced Barbie.

"Leo" is one of Adam Sandler's best movies ever, showcasing lovable characters, rapid-fire gags, and a heartwarming message. As the ultimate underdog, Leo the pet lizard is easy to root for as he helps kids with their problems. Sandler's success in "Leo" proves that he should take on more animated roles, utilizing his talent for funny voices and creating fun for the whole family.
Adam Sandler’s latest original movie on Netflix, a delightful animated comedy called Leo, proves that the Sandman should be taking more roles in the world of animation. Sandler’s title character in Leo is the pet lizard of a fifth-grade classroom, who decides to share his wisdom with the students when he overhears a parent estimating that he’s going to die soon. Sandler also co-wrote the script for this heartwarming elementary school musical with Paul Sado and fellow Saturday Night Live alum Robert Smigel.

Although Netflix has an incredible library of TV shows and movies, it also features some truly terrible films. Netflix adaptations like Death Note don't do justice to the source material, while sequels like Tall Girl 2 feel wholly unnecessary. Movies like The Ridiculous 6 and The Bubble prove that even all-star casts can't save some of the worst movies on Netflix.
Netflix has made a name for itself in the realm of streaming thanks to its incredible selection of movies and TV shows, but there are some truly terrible movies available to watch on the platform. Netflix has been operating for more than 25 years and has gone through several changes to get to where it is today. Starting life as a simple movie delivery service, it grew to the point that businesses like Blockbuster disappeared. Now Netflix creates its own content to rival what other studios put out.

Since 1989, Adam Sandler has been one of the busiest men in Hollywood. Not only is he a prolific funnyman on screen, but he's also got his own production company, Happy Madison, that has cranked out over 25 feature films. Sandler inked a lucrative exclusivity deal with Netflix a few years back and has been churning out films for them to varying degrees of success.

Many movies have a critic score lower than 20% on Rotten Tomatoes, but sometimes even those are surprisingly high when they really deserved a 0%. The review aggregate website is such a resourceful place to find well-received movies to watch, as the "Tomatometer" tells its users what percentage of critics enjoyed a certain movie, and it collects the data from a pool of hundreds of sources. Anything scoring 60% and above is labeled "fresh," as it means that at least six in every 10 critics like the movie or TV show, and anything below 60% on the site is deemed "rotten."
However, a movie with a Tomatometer score in the 50s still means that more than 50% of critics like it, and it could be a polarizing love-it or hate-it movie, that many audiences enjoyed. It's the films with 20% or less that are as close to objectively bad as it gets, and it's a wonder why...

Forget the Chris Rock live-standup success or the “Love Is Blind” reunion’s epic failure: The real benchmark to Netflix exploring live sports should be based on… Universal “Sing 2.”
That’s the argument made Thursday morning by media analysts at MoffettNathanson; before you think we subscribe to some quack research, let Michael Nathanson explain his position.
Though you may know (and subscribe to) Netflix for original hits like “Stranger Things,” “Wednesday,” and “Bridgerton,” its massive library is comprised primarily of acquired film and TV content.
Those third-party leftovers account for more than half of the time viewed on Netflix in the U.S. Compared to your average original series or movie, libraries are a stable, predictable, safe, and successful setup.

The 2010s featured plenty of wonderful movies that have become modern classics, including Inception, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and Parasite, but not every film from the decade was equally well-received. Despite the many terrific films to come out of the 2010s, there have always been plenty of flops that were met with universally negative reviews.
The review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes rarely unites all critics, but every now and again, a film manages to do so--either for better or for worse. 2010s movies like A Thousand Words, Max Steel, and London Fields have all scored a 0% on the website.

Adam Sandler went from Saturday Night Live cast member to a movie mogul in his own right, but how do his films stack up? Delivering laughs and entertainment throughout his career, the actor and filmmaker is perhaps best known for slapstick comedy and rude humor, but Sandler has presented a wide range that extends beyond typical expectations of him. In fact, some of his finest work comes in more dramatic roles, even when they aren't as popular in box office terms.
Sandler continues to cater to both sides of his talents with him regularly turning out both the comedies that made him famous and more risk-taking roles. While many of his films were successes despite criticism, some have certainly held up better than others. There is a lot of nostalgia surrounding Sandler movies, particularly entries like Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison, but his newer films, though similar to the older ones,...

To quote the evil Noah Cross in Chinatown, “Politicians, ugly buildings and whores all get respectable if they last long enough.” The same can be said of Adam Sandler, who spent years as a piñata for critics as a result of such mindless comedies as Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore. Now he’s an acclaimed actor, his name floated by Oscar prognosticators for such superb performances as the ones he gave in Uncut Gems and Hustle. He’s even joined the ranks of such illustrious comedic talents as Richard Pryor and George Carlin in winning the Mark Twain Prize.

For better or worse, Lost was one of the most influential shows of the past couple of decades. The series, which follows a group of survivors after their plane crash-lands on a mysterious island, sparked a cultural phenomenon with its compelling characters and supernatural mysteries. Adaptations of Stephen King’s work can be hit or miss, but only two movies based on his stories hold the undesirable score of 0 on Rotten Tomatoes. Similar to how difficult it is to achieve a 100 Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s even less common for movies to report zero positive reviews on the site. Sadly, two film adaptations of the horror author Stephen King’s work hold this disappointing title, joining movies like Adam Sandler’s The Ridiculous 6, the John Travolta-starring biopic Gotti, and Jaws: The Revenge on the 0 Rotten Tomatoes score list.
Horror movies, especially adaptations, tend to have difficulty achieving great acclaim on Rotten Tomatoes. Still, Stephen King’s stories have inspired some of the greatest films of all time, whether the genre is horror, drama, sci-fi, or suspense. Adam Sandler has made an admission about the critical reception to his films.
Throughout his career, the actor’s choices have been regularly ridiculed by reviewers, who have given several of his films bad write-ups.
Films including Little Nicky, Grown-Ups, The Ridiculous 6 and Sandy Wexler have been torn apart by crtiics, and Sandler has acknowledged that, at first, such a reception came as a shock to him when he started writing and leading his own films in the mid-1990s.
“When Billy Madison came out, me and my friend who wrote it, we were just like, ‘Oh yeah, they’re going to write about this in New York!’” Deadline reports the actor as saying.
“We read the first one and we were like, ‘Oh my god, what happened? They hate us.’ And then we were like, ‘It must have been this paper,’ but then 90 per cent of the papers are going,...

Comedian and actor Adam Sandler talks about how he reacted to reading negative reviews about his film Billy Madison. Having performed in comedy clubs from the age of 17, Sandler marked his first onscreen appearance playing Theo Huxtable’s friend on The Cosby Show in 1987. In 1990, he was hired as writer for Saturday Night Live and would become a long-running cast member the following year. After a series of smaller film parts, in 1995 Sandler both co-wrote and starred in Billy Madison, the story of a spoiled hotel heir who repeats school to win his father’s respect and the chance to inherit his business empire. Despite being panned by critics on its release, the film is now widely regarded by fans as one of Sandler’s best.
Over the years Sandler has racked up an impressive number of film credits, though many have been the target of decidedly harsh critical reactions.

Adam Sandler has said that he stopped reading reviews after the harsh criticism of Billy Madison.
The actor opened up about his views on film critics during a recent Netflix conversation for his recent movie Hustle.
Sandler, 56, said that he stopped paying attention to reviews after his 1995 comedy Bill Madison was torn apart by film critics.
Although the comedy – which Sandler co-wrote with Tim Herlily – is generally recognised to be a staple in the actor’s body of work, he recalled that 90 per cent of film critics called it “garbage” when it was released.
“When I was 17 and I got into this, I didn’t think about critics… I didn’t even realise that stuff was coming,” he said.
“I just thought you made movies, people go see it. When Billy Madison came out, me and my friend who wrote it, we were just like, ‘Oh yeah, they’re going...

If your childhood consisted of late '90s and early 2000s animation, then the name Genndy Tartakovsky should sound familiar to you. He's the animator behind shows like "Samurai Jack," "The Powerpuff Girls," and "Dexter's Laboratory." Decades later, Tartakovsky is still going strong in the world of animation with the more adult-focused "Primal," which /Film's Sarah Milner called "big, bold, and bloody" in her review.
In terms of what Tartakovsky has brought to the big screen, however, the first three "Hotel Transylvania" movies are a wonderful example of what happens when you let someone with a vivid imagination helm an animated film. Better yet, these movies are the result of taking all of the Classic Universal Monsters and formatting them into a family-friendly animated vehicle that shows a softer side.

Say goodbye to your calm demeanor, folks, because Adam Sandler and the Safdie Brothers (Josh and Benny) are teaming up for another project on Netflix. The group will join forces for an untitled feature starring Sandler, who in 2019 brought the directing duo’s Howard Ratner to life in Uncut Gems. The crime drama is about a jeweler with crippling debt and angry collectors closing in who puts everything on the line to stay afloat and alive. Uncut Gems was a critical success, despite being one of the most intense and uncomfortable movies ever conceived.

Exclusive: Nick Nolte (Graves) and Jacqueline Bisset (Birds of Paradise) will star alongside Oliver Masucci (Fantastic Bests: The Secrets of Dumbledore) in Shelter Me, a pandemic-set psychological drama marking the directorial debut of actor Jake Weber.
The film will be Nolte and Bisset’s third together, on the heels of Peter Yates’ 1977 treasure-hunter adventure The Deep, based on Peter Benchley’s 1976 novel of the same name, and Til Schweiger’s 2018 Alzheimer’s dramedy, Head Full of Honey.
Shelter Me is an anthology of storylines set against the international backdrop of Covid-19. Masucci portrays Jon Boylan, an A.I. research scientist who is unable to intimately connect with members of his test group (Nolte and Bisset). Adam Sandler earned strong reviews for his performance in Netflix’s “Hustle” earlier this year, but such acclaim is few and far between in the comedian’s filmography. For every “Hustle” or “Uncut Gems,” there’s an onslaught of comedies like “Murder Mystery,” “Hubie Halloween,” “The Ridiculous 6,” “Blended” and more. Film critics often have their knives out for Sandler, especially when it comes to his non-“Hustle” Netflix comedies, and he recently admitted to AARP that negative reviews can “sometimes” sting.
“Mostly because I invite all these amazing people I care about to make movies with me,” Sandler said, “and I wish they didn’t have to read shit about whatever we’ve made.”
With that said, Sandler added that “I don’t get too shook up” when it comes to critics bashing his movies.
“I always remember something my father said,” Sandler continued. “He was a tough bastard.

At this time, there's a screenplay for the sequel written by James Vanderbilt with Garelick set to do a "polish." Vanderbilt also penned the screenplay for the original Murder Mystery, which was directed by Kyle Newacheck. Released to Netflix in the summer of 2019, the movie stars Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler star as a married couple caught up in a murder investigation on a billionaire's yacht. Also featured in the cast are Luke Evans, Terence Stamp, Gemma Arterton, David Walliams, and Dany Boon. Though reviews were mixed, viewership for the movie was rather high which is enough for Netflix to order a sequel.
