Dracula and his friends try to bring out the monster in his half human, half vampire grandson in order to keep Mavis from leaving the hotel.
Various comparisons can be made to this film's cast and that of The Munsters. Jonathan is to Herman (his "Johnnystein" persona from the first film, his big heart-small-mindedness), Mavis is to Lily (Dracula's daughter, in charge of the household, disagrees with the men in her family on their schemes while they scheme behind her back), Dracula to Grandpa (his attachment to his grandson, his love/hate, conspiring friendship with his son in-law, and, you know, being Dracula) and while Dennis is not a werewolf like Eddie, he does associate himself with Winnie and the other wolf pups.
Bigfoot: Congrats, Drac. Holy smokes, everybody's here.
Suits of Armour: Mr. and Mrs. Loughran, the parents of the groom, and family.
Vampires are shown to not appear in photographs. This is evident in the beginning of the film, during the wedding. Drac and Mavis do not appear in any of the pictures they take. However, later on in the movie, when Mavis is packing her things in boxes, she comes across an old picture of her and Drac, in which they are visible.
Like the first movie, the Columbia Pictures lady turns into a vampire bat in the title screen sequence.
The home video and digital releases alter a line of dialogue spoken by Kakie the Cake Monster that proved controversial: Kakie (Theatrical Version): Slow down, Wuzzlelumplebum! The scariest monster of all is diabetes! Kakie (Home/Digital Version): Slow down, Wuzzlelumplebum! (Chuckles)
