In keeping with a long-time series tradition, the opening shot after the text crawl shows a space vehicle flying either away from or toward the screen (in this case, several Resistance transport ships fly towards the screen). Originally, the opening shot was a transition from the stars to a circular shape resembling a planet, which would fade into the tubular bed Finn was comatose inside of from the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015), where he would suddenly wake up like he does around 15 minutes into the final film.
Resistance Evacuation Officer:
We're not clear yet. There are still 30 pallets of cannon shells in C bunker.
Lieutenant Connix: Forget the munitions, there's no time. Just get everyone on the transports.
Lieutenant Connix: Oh, no.
When the fathiers stampede out the stable, a guard rushes into the corner of the room near a pipe. In the next shot the guard is no longer there.
The stars that form the backdrop for the end credits are exactly the same stars as the stars from the backdrop for the end credits of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) .
