France’s first lady, Brigitte Macron, will be the subject of a biopic series produced by French mini-major Gaumont.
The six-part show is being penned by Bénédicte Charles and Olivier Pouponneau, who previously teamed on the thriller series “J’ai menti.”
Titled “Brigitte, une femme libre”, the series will chart the life of French President Emmanuel Macron’s wife. Gaumont is keeping the plot of the show under wraps and will be announcing the cast in the next few weeks.
Brigitte Macron’s life story surely provides plenty of material for a TV series. She met Emmanuel Macron while teaching theater at the Catholic high school Providence in Amiens. Macron was then 15 years old, while she was 40 and married with three children. In a recent interview with Paris Match, Brigitte Macron talked about her anxiety over their age gap, saying that her “head was in a mess” after she fell in...

That’s because even those Netflix subscribers on the cheaper advertising tier will still get a commercial-free experience when the telecast runs live on Saturday at 5 p.m. Pt/8 p.m. Et. After that initial livestream, however, commercial breaks will be inserted into replays for users on the ad tier looking to timeshift and watch the SAG Awards later.

It’s a story — the attempted genocide of Europe’s Jews by the Nazis and their willing executioners — that has been told many times before. But, say the creators of the new German TV drama The Interpreter of Silence, it’s a story that needs to be told again and again.

The Good Mothers, the Anglo-Italian series based on the eponymous book by journalist Alex Perry, premiered at the Berlin Film Festival, winning the inaugural, and thanks to budget cuts one and only, prize for best new series at the festival’s TV sidebar, the Berlinale Series.

Actor Omar Sy is one of his generation’s most famous French black actors. Born to African immigrants from Senegal (father) and Mauritania (mother), Sy began his career as a comedian. Although not a career choice as a young child, comedy came naturally to him. Omar Sy has starred in several French and American movies since he made his debut in the short film Granturismo (2000). Sy had appeared in several guest-starring roles on television even before Netflix’s Lupin. Although he has starred in several top French films, the focus will mostly be on his Hollywood appearances. Here are Omar Sy’s...

The first time I went to Ghana, I was 19 years old and volunteering to build a health clinic in a rural village. It was 1988, I was a teenaged lunatic, and everything bad that could have happened to me did: I got malaria; I was beaten up by soldiers on the border with the Ivory Coast — but I also encountered wonderful people and stunning and moving and unforgettable experiences and friendships. All told, I had the time of my life, and vowed to spend as much time as I could on the African continent, and I have ever since.
A few weeks ago, I was back in Ghana for a very different reason: to join other producers at a historic pan-African summit devoted to the elevation of the film and television industries across the continent. In a notable prestige project package from Chile, Gonzalo Maza, co-writer of Sebastian Lelio’s Academy Award-winning “A Fantastic Woman,” has boarded “I Don’t Know How to Say Goodbye,” a drama thriller non-fiction series to be directed by Carola Fuentes and produced by Rafael Valdeavellano, re-teaming after their collaboration as co-writers and directors on the admired “Chicago Boys,” (2015) and “Breaking the Brick” (2022).
Both doc features were nuanced studies of the impact of Chicago school of Neoliberal thought on standard economic policy in Augusto Pinochet’s Chile. “Goodbye” turns on another often deleterious mindset, the highly codified and often cruel power dynamics seen in the online representation of fellow high school students.
Set up at the partners’ La Ventana Cine in Santiago de Chile, “I Don’t Want to Say Goodbye,” now in development, is executive produced by director Marcela Said, who has helmed episodes of “Gangs of London,” (2022), “Lupin...

The run-up to Halloween proved to be a good time to release a new version of Goosebumps.
The series based on R.L. Stine’s beloved books broke into the top 10 overall for the week of Oct. 16-22. The show, which streams on both Disney+ and Hulu, racked up 594 million minutes of viewing for its second week of release, marking a rare non-Marvel or Star Wars original series entry for Disney+ in Nielsen’s rankings (being available on two platforms helped, as well).
Nielsen, incidentally, classified Goosebumps as an acquired show the previous week, apparently because of it being shared across the two platforms, before switching it to the originals column going forward.
The Fall of the House of Usher kept the No. 1 overall spot for the second straight week, growing by 19 percent over its opening to 1.47 billion minutes of viewing. Suits remained strong, recording its 18th straight week above a...

For only the second time since its Netflix debut, “Suits” has dropped from the lead position on the Nielsen Streaming Top 10.
Unsurprisingly, the series didn’t fall far. It landed in second place with 1.1 billion minutes watched between Oct. 9 and Oct. 15, just slightly behind “The Fall of the House of Usher,” which took the No. 1 position with 1.2 billion minutes watched in its first four days of availability on Netflix.
The first time “Suits” was dethroned was by during the Sept. 11-17 viewing window thanks to the debut of “Virgin River” Season 5 Part 1.
In third place was “Grey’s Anatomy,” down from No. 2 the week before but still higher than the long-running medical drama usually charts. It was watched for 872 million minutes during this viewing window, and was followed by “Bluey,” the animated children’s series that has charted strongly in recent weeks and notched 781 million minutes watched this week.

For only the second time since mid-June, Suits is not the No. 1 title in Nielsen’s streaming rankings.
That honor belongs to Netflix’s The Fall of the House of Usher, which snagged the top spot for the week of Oct. 9-15. Writer-director Mike Flanagan’s spin on the titular Edgar Allan Poe story (and several others by the author) drew 1.23 billion minutes of viewing, edging out the 1.13 billion for Suits.
The latter series continued its months-long run above the billion-minute mark, however, and has now compiled almost 44.4 billion minutes (about 739.8 million hours) of viewing on Netflix and Peacock since it first hit the rankings in June. Nielsen notes that viewing of Suits’ ninth and final season, which is only available on Peacock, accounted for 6 percent of the weekly tally (about 67.6 million minutes) — the highest percentage for those episodes since the other eight seasons debuted on Netflix.

Shows like Lupin aren’t popular because of their suspenseful plot-driven stories. In addition to its abundant plot twists and turning points, the French crime drama’s compelling lead character—Assane Diop, and intriguing villains are perhaps its most emphatic selling point. The series created by George Kay and François Uzan retells the story of Maurice Leblanc’s Arsène Lupin, a charismatic gentleman thief and master of disguise. Starring Omar Sy as the leading actor, the Netflix thriller premiered in January 2021 to rave reviews, justifying the renewal for more seasons. Upon its debut, Lupin pulled viewers from over 76 million households across the...

The return of Loki to Disney+ didn’t cause quite as big a stir as the show’s debut.
Season two of the Marvel series premiered Oct. 5, and it gathered 446 million minutes of viewing time over its first three days and change (it was released at 9 p.m. Et/6 p.m. Pt Oct. 5 in the United States), according to Nielsen’s streaming rankings. That’s about 39 percent lower than the 731 million minutes of viewing for Loki’s series premiere week in June 2021.
Disney said that the season two premiere, which runs 47 minutes, had 10.9 million “views” worldwide, which would equate to about 512 million minutes of watch time (the increasingly standard definition of a streaming view is total viewing time divided by run time). The 446 million minutes recorded by Nielsen includes viewing of season one’s six episodes as well, so it’s hard to say exactly how much time U.S.

When Is Virgin River Season 5 Part 2 Coming? Well, Virgin River Season 5 is causing quite a buzz, and it’s split into two parts like other popular Netflix shows. Part 1 left us with many unresolved storylines, and the final episodes of Season 5 will need to address those loose ends while setting the stage for what’s to come in the next season.
The first episode of this season brought a lot of shock and drama, including an arrest, new relationships being confirmed, and significant developments in the mysteries surrounding Charmaine and Mel’s parentage.
Now, we’re eagerly waiting for Part 2, hoping to get more answers and find out what happens next. The good news is that Netflix has already renewed the series for Season 6, so we can expect some exciting developments in the remaining episodes of Season 5.

France’s VFX workforce has grown by leaps and bounds over the past three years, with much credit due to a 10% across-the-board tax rebate bonus for international productions that spend more than $2.1 million with local digital outfits.
Of course, the fact that American studios could also benefit from the full 40% tax rebate wholly on post-production expenditures has only helped matters further, affording top-trained talent the chance to stay in France, proving their mettle on lavish blockbusters shot elsewhere.

Whereas before productions might spend the $2.1 million just to take advantage of the full tax credit, today productions that have never shot in France come to us directly” with much more substantial VFX buys.

“Beckham” has officially been defeated — the Netflix miniseries, not the soccer star. “The Fall of the House of Usher” moved from second place to first on Netflix’s Top 10 English-language TV list Tuesday.
This shift comes a week ahead of Halloween, fitting for the spooky miniseries based on the work of Edgar Allan Poe. The series from Mike Flanagan and Trevor Macy secured 7.9 million views in its second week. With those numbers, it beat out last week’s reigning champion “Beckham,” which secured 6.9 million views.
Also on the English-language Top 10 list were the U.K. limited series “Bodies” in the No. 3 spot with 5.5 million views, the fantasy series “I Woke Up a Vampire” in the No. 4 spot with 3.4 million views and Season 4 of the comedy “Sex Education” in the No.
