The original script was titled "Cherries" and features three fathers as the leads. One of the fathers was later changed to a mother, Leslie Mann's character.

This film was produced by Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, the creators of "Superbad." "Superbad" is a film about three high-school friends who try to have sex before graduation. A very similar story to "Blockers," except "Superbad" features male protagonists rather than female.

The film was originally titled "Cherries" during development in 2012. When production began, it was changed to "The Pact". It was renamed "Blockers" in October 2017, when the film was in post-production and the first trailer was released

The film's title and posters are a reference to the act of "cock blocking"; the rooster icon was removed for advertising on broadcast television and cable networks that objected, with only the Blockers text being shown.

The film premiered at South by Southwest on March 10, 2018.

This is the second Leslie Mann movie to feature the song Love Myself by Hailee Stienfield after How to Be Single.

Early on in the film, Hunter (Ike Barinholtz) makes a joke about his daughter Sam (Gideon Adlon) watching "Asian porn" like he does. It is soon revealed that Sam is indeed attracted to an Asian girl, Angelica.

The hotel in the film is the Hyatt Regency in downtown Atlanta.

There is an end credit scene where John Cena's character and his wife play the same sexual 'hide and seek' game as seen earlier in the movie, and their daughter catches them.
