Working the same territory as Claude Chabrol's suspensers but vastly different, Nica Noelle's HER LOVER'S SON is a solid porn drama with a strong central performance by Dana Vespoli in which most of the characters are unfaithful. It's from Hard Candy (later named Hot Candy), one of the few titles still available from that inactive hetero subsidiary of Girl Candy Films.
Vespoli is Lisa, a photographer, getting a last-minute assignment from a book publisher magnate (an uncredited actress in non-sex role) to film a cover shoot on soccer star Danny Becker. Played by ruggedly handsome Danny Mountain, Becker is of course a riff on David Beckham. A similar roman a clef in-joke consists of Lisa subbing for famed shutterbug Richard Amadon, a riff on Richard Avedon who died a decade before this video was shot.
Lisa is about to marry elderly surgeon Mark (played by elderly porn veteran Mark Davis), who is having an off-again, on-again (on when the scenes of this video take place) with his short but huge-breasted medical colleague Sophie (Sophie Dee, more about her later). It turns out that Mark has an estranged son, and no surprise, it's Danny Becker. Both Mountain and Davis are British (as is Dee coincidentally), well-cast here.
Opening sex scene between Mark and Lisa is well-performed, with the odd note (one I have yet to resolve) of Vespoli always keeping on a corset or some article of clothing around her abdomen while having sex -it's a feature of all her videos I've watched. What she's hiding, some horrible scar, or maybe a since-regretted tattoo that reads "I hate Nica Noelle", I'll never know.
Second XXX vignette has Sophie seducing Mark at work, an easy task given her beauty. Dee, who has recently branched out into mainstream horror movie roles, is a Welsh actress who I've enjoyed watching for many years (she's only 31 now), who had extreme breast enlargement in 2009 and is virtually unrecognizable after. What remains a constant are arrestingly beautiful eyes, and her nearly extraneous sex scene with Mark threatens to overshadow the sack time of star Vespoli.
On the phone with her best friend Sarah (voice-only cameo performance by director Nica Noelle), Lisa discovers that her fiancé is Danny's dad, but she falls in love with the big galoot anyway. Meanwhile, Danny makes love to his ethereal blonde beauty Christa (Jean Marie), like Sophie effectively stealing the spotlight from our leading lady).
Feature winds up with Danny and Lisa hooking up after he angrily confronts the photographer after learning from his mum back in England that daddy is in fact engaged to Lisa - who never told him she was hipped to that fact. An argument leads to sex in porn, just as it might in real life, and as is her wont, Nica leaves the story up in the air after Danny's money shot on the black fabric covering Vespoi's belly. We've seen the three principal players unfaithful (Sophie and Jeanie Marie did nothing wrong) and don't know where they're headed. With Hard Candy deep-sixed, no sequel to resolve this will be forthcoming.
