The condition that Lady Galloway and her daughter Lucia are suffering from which is hereditary, causes them to have difficulty reading, muddle left with right and write letters and numbers the wrong way round, is never named. However, it is almost certainly dyslexia, which produces all of these effects.
Prof. Galloway claims to have been "reading Derrida" when he was his daughter's age. Since this series is set in the early 1950s, and Derrida was born in 1930, this would have been impossible.
