Jake Pentecost, son of Stacker Pentecost, reunites with Mako Mori to lead a new generation of Jaeger pilots, including rival Lambert and 15-year-old hacker Amara, against a new Kaiju threat.
The conscripted scavenger character, Amana Namani, played by actress Cailee Spaeny, innovatively pilots her self-made Jaeger, that has the call sign "Scrapper," a term very aptly used from orthodox western boxing, which describes a fighter that is small in stature but has strong willpower. These attributes are frequently shown or referenced during the movie.

The film posits that the Precursors' ultimate plan was to reach Mount Fuji and all the cities they leveled were just in the way. This makes no sense, as the kaiju attacked cities all across the Pacific, most of which are in the complete opposite direction.
There is a short scene with John Boyega and Charlie Day's characters before the credits
