Cartuna and Irony Point have acquired the North American distribution rights to Julian Glander’s feature debut, “Boys Go to Jupiter.” The animated feature bowed at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival.

Cartuna and Irony Point plan to release the film theatrically, kicking off Aug. 8 at New Your City’s IFC Center, followed by an Aug. 15 bow at the Laemmle Glendale in Los Angeles and rollout nationally.

Glander’s “Boys Go to Jupiter” is described as a surreal coming-of-age story set in suburban Florida. The film follows Billy 5000, a teenage delivery driver who stumbles into a cosmic mystery after a routine gig leaves him caretaker of a mysterious alien egg.

The voice cast includes Janeane Garofalo, Julio Torres, Sarah Sherman, Cole Escola, Eva Victor, Elsie Fisher, Tavi Gevinson, Grace Kuhlenschmidt, Jack Corbett and Joe Pera.

The film was produced by Glander under his Pittsburgh-based studio, Glanderco, with Peisin Yang Lazo serving as executive producer.

Nine years later, audiences are finally getting the chance to get reacquainted with one Mr. Christian Wolff, aka The Accountant. After all this time, Ben Affleck and director Gavin O'Conner have finally reunited for "The Accountant 2," which originally entered development way back in 2017. Rosebud Baker is gearing up to release her second comedy special, The Mother Lode, on Netflix this February 11, Deadline reveals. The special, taped during two sold-out nights at the iconic Comedy Cellar in New York City, showcases Baker at two very different moments—before and after becoming a mom. The contrasting performances bring a fresh angle to her sharp and honest comedy.

Through her stand-up, Baker dives into her personal journey, sharing hilarious and sometimes biting takes on everything from deciding to have kids to the unglamorous sides of childbirth and parenthood.

She doesn’t shy away from the tough stuff either, opening up about struggles like infertility, miscarriage, and postpartum experiences.

The special, which Baker also directed and produced, was filmed over two years to give a full picture of her journey. She explained her goal was to make people laugh and feel less isolated, no matter their relationship to parenthood.

Exclusive: The Mother Lode, the second comedy special from SNL writer, actress and stand-up Rosebud Baker, is set to premiere globally on Netflix on February 18.

Taped months apart during two sold-out nights at the Comedy Cellar in New York City, the special intercuts between Baker before and after giving birth. The trailer for Kinda Pregnant has been out for a week but has just 55 thousand views (and 1.7 thousand likes) as of Jan. 13, 2025. That's compared to the more successful trailers for relatively little-known upcoming Netflix titles, like Don't Die: The Man Who Wants to Live Forever (509 thousand views), Cassandra (138 thousand views), Bandidos Season 2 (208 thousand views), and one of several trailers for Sakamoto Days (3 million views in three days).

Perhaps this has to do with the lengthy history of negativity towards Schumer, for various reasons. She has certainly had a contentious relationship with her audience (who she refuses to be photographed with in most instances), frequently fueled by social media, that great catalyst of catastrophe.

“The Simpsons” has been in an experimental mode as of late, trying big swings like its “series finale” Season 36 premiere and its recent, spot-on parody of “The White Lotus.” This week, the show is once again playing with its format — via the sketch comedy-inspired “Women in Shorts” episode.

Variety has a first look (scroll down below) at one of the bits. Rather than a single storyline, the “Women in Shorts” episode will contain around 15 different vignettes. Writer Christine Nangle, who penned the episode, has a sketch background and hails from the Upright Citizens Brigade, so trying it on “The Simpsons” made sense.

“Our showrunner, Matt Selman, has been really encouraging us to take risks and break format a little bit more,” Nangle said. “I thought it would be cool to do an episode that feels a little bit like a sketch show, and delving into the lives of the women of the town.

Exclusive: The Broadway revival of Othello starring Denzel Washington and Jake Gyllenhaal has added to the cast with Andrew Burnap, Anthony Michael Lopez, Daniel Pearce (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) and Kimber Elayne Sprawl (Girl from the North Country).

Looks like Det. Bruno has proved his worth to Capt. Benson: Kevin Kane has been promoted to series regular at Law & Order: Svu, our sister site Deadline reports.

Bruno’s character debuted in Season 24, when Benson’s team became involved in a case under the jurisdiction of Bronx Svu, where Bruno then worked. The character eventually joined Liv and the gang in Manhattan, quickly becoming a fan favorite. Kane was a recurring cast member who last appeared in Season 25’s Episode 13.

Exclusive: NBC’s Law & Order: Svu has added Juliana Aidén Martinez (Griselda) to its Season 26 cast as a new detective; Kevin Kane has been upped to a series regular as Det. Terry Bruno.

The new season begins Oct. 3 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt on NBC and next day on Peacock.

Kane debuted in the role in Season 24, however, he has played other minor characters in seasons 9, 13, 17 and 20. He last appeared last season in episode 13.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit follows detectives from the Special Victims Unit as they investigate and prosecute sexually based crimes. Some episodes are loosely based on real crimes that have been ripped from the headlines.

Written by Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully, Shifting Gears centers on Matt (Allen), the stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. When Matt’s estranged daughter Riley (Dennings) and her kids move into his house, the real restoration begins.

Simkins and Margolis will play Carter and Georgia, the respective son and daughter of Riley and Matt’s grandchildren.

Amy Schumer was in the zone. This was in March, when she was filming on the street in Brooklyn for her upcoming movie “Kinda Pregnant,” a comedy about a woman who pretends to be knocked up for attention. In one take, Schumer emerged from a subway station while answering a phone call — and was interrupted by a stranger shouting at her from the sidewalk: “Fuck you, Amy Schumer! You’re a Zionist! You love genocide!”

Disruptions of the four-letter variety aren’t unusual in a raucous place like New York, though they’re usually less pointed. Schumer didn’t break character, refusing to stop working as the woman carried on. The actress finished the scene finally, packed up her stuff and went home to her husband and their 4-year-old son.

“It didn’t even raise my heart rate,” Schumer says over brunch at a cozy Brooklyn Heights tavern a couple days later.

The luncheon gathering, presented in partnership with Lifetime, celebrates the charitable work done by the Power of Women New York honorees, who will be featured on four separate covers for the April 30 print edition of Variety. The issue also includes the annual survey of accomplished women in media and entertainment as profiled in the annual Women’s Impact Report. Amber Ruffin, a multihyphenate known for her work on Peacock’s “The Amber Ruffin Show” and NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” will host the event.

Parnell is also known for his standout role as Dr. Leo Spaceman on seven seasons of NBC’s Emmy Award-winning 30 Rock. Former Jax Media president Brooke Posch has opened her own shingle, Good&Done, aiming to focus on comedy projects from new and undiscovered voices. As part of the launch, Posch has hired former Broadway Video and Universal TV exec Hannah Kitziger to serve as head of development.

“Throughout my career I’ve experienced the incredible rewards of having developed and produced some of the most extraordinary voices in TV and film,” Posch said in a statement. “I’m thrilled to take this next step to launch Good&Done and bring on executive Hannah Kitziger. Unique perspectives are the drivers in breakthrough programming, and we’re excited to shake up the comedy landscape.”

Posch exited Jax Media last year after that company was sold to Imagine Entertainment. She first joined Jax Media in 2019 as president of original programming, launching several series and also setting up an unscripted division, a movie division and Jax UK.
