  • There is a lot to love about Miraculous Ladybug. As a rabid lover of animation since the 90's boom of TV animation, I can tell you right now that it is perhaps one of the most phenomenal cartoons I have seen in an extremely long time. Combing a plethora of genres, from action, to comedy, to fantasy, and romance, "Miraculous" is an example of a series that is not afraid to take risks and defy common conventions of the genre in order to maximize quality, something that has been absent from modern television for a decade. At first glance it may appear like a typical magical girl/lame superhero program, but do NOT let the kiddy ladybug image fool you. It has such a high enjoyment value that you will forget that you are watching someone fighting monsters every week, but rather, live through the experiences of a not-so- typical high school girl whose life has been changed forever.

The premise itself is fairly cliché for the genre: a klutzy, happy-go-lucky girl named Marinette finds a magical pair of earrings and begins a quest alongside a cute creature that gives her the power to transform into "Ladybug," a superhero with the powers to seal "Akumas," demons that pray upon wounded hearts. Hawk Moth is the villain behind this phenomenon and it is her ultimate mission to stop him. However, the series gets largely complicated with the introduction of the deuteragonist (and Marinette's crush), Adrien. He also has a similar experience and can transform into Cat Noir, Ladybug's polar opposite and her partner on this mission to destroy Hawk Moth. But there is a catch: the both of them are forbidden in revealing their true identities while working together. Adrien is madly in love with Ladybug (not knowing that she is Marinette), whose heart only beats for Adrien in real life (also not knowing he is Cat Noir). And to Adrien, Marinette is just a girl in his class.

This love-quartet serves as the basis for the central theme of the series as their feelings for each other (and their alter egos) change and develop immensely. Additionally, the series focuses on Marinette and Adrien's struggles with their families and friendships. We learn about Adrien's troubled past and why it justifies his current actions. And while Marinette has a loving family and is sweet, kind, and pure by nature, she is also is shown to have her flaws, being cocky, selfish, and judgmental. There is a natural progression of events without using contrived plot elements such as deaths, love triangles, cheesy friendship drama, etc. We see that these kids have real flaws and are extremely relatable. The supporting cast consisting of Marinette's classmates are interestingly developed mostly through inferences and vague symbolism. This is a nice change of pace.

It should be noted at how impressive the animation is as well: a product of four major animation studios coming together, Miraculous boasts an 12 million dollar budget and it clearly shows here. The animation is gorgeous and the action scenes are very smooth. The music is nothing short of stunning, and the Paris-inspired soundtracks will easily get stuck in your head! I usually prefer hand drawn animation but the CGI here blew me out of the park. Also, those who are fan of Japanese animation will notice the references and similarities pulled from the magical girl genre: we have the magical transformations, the cute sidekicks, Japanese "akumas," etc. It's clear the creator was inspired by older anime classics such as Sailor Moon, Cardcaptor sakura, and Phantom Thief Jeanne, which some will appreciate.

That being said, Miraculous is definitely not without flaws. The story is episodic in nature and the fight scenes are extremely predictable. There is also not a lot of background information on how Marinette and Adrien got their superpowers. Hawk Moth is like a cut-and-paste villain with no clear reasoning. His one of those bad guys that just wants to 'take over the world' just because. But if I believe there is still enough to look past this. Seasons 2 and 3 are currently in development and they may or may not shed more light on these mysteries.

All and all Miraculous Ladybug is a heartwarming tale that children and adults will enjoy alike. While not quite flawless, it's a consistently high-quality, entertaining and sometimes thought-provoking show that proves there is a correlation in storytelling between creativity and quality. There is something for everyone here, and there are valuable lessons for our children about the human condition mixed in with the fantasy/action aspect of the show. I can only pray that Nickelodeon gives this program the respect it deserves given it's track record with "Avatar" and "Winx Club" over the past few years. For those of you who love this show, please, please support it!

I stumbled upon Miraculous while I was baby-sitting one day, with the kid that I was watching telling me "watch this show it is the best". So to not disappoint her, I did. Needless to say, I wasn't disappointed in myself, in fact - I loved it.

Ladybug has a fascinating story about a teenage girl named Marinette who got chosen to be a superhero named Ladybug along with an accomplice Cat-Noir. Each episode explores a simple issue in a real life situation experienced by a person, then dramatizes it with a villain who uses the issue to try and defeat the heroes through the person experiencing it. It's that simple formula which makes the show exciting especially since you know roughly what will happen each episode. Through the 20 minute episodes, a couple of minutes is dedicated to explore Marinette's personal life as a shy teenage schoolgirl which builds a great likability to her character. However, the show isn't perfect. It gets really repetitive after a while since every episode has the same formula. Although this was fixed in the final two episodes where a villain was stretched out to two episodes to defeat, giving more time to empathize with Marinette the main character, but the rest of season one didn't really do that. The other problem is how the episodes barely give enough time to do character building with the supporting characters and instead focuses on how to defeat the villain, instead of the consequences of not defeating them (excluding the final 2 episodes of season 1). In saying that, it's not that the show is bad, but with enough work it can easily reach the heights of other great animations such as Avatar the Last Airbender.

All in all, Miraculous is a great show - one of the best I've seen in this last decade. Season one may have felt a bit repetitive, but there were moments which were definitely worth remembering and the final two episodes of season one definitely set some standards for season two.
  • Came across this cartoon a while go an I'm actually really invested in it lol. It's not like the usual rubbish cartoon my kids watch I can happily sit with them an binge watch it with them
  • I absolutely love this show. Not only it does have an amazing humor, but the animation is sublime. We can quickly relate to the characters and experience some greatly written adventures! I can assure you'll quickly become addicted to this show.

Both Ladybug and Chat Noir embody the concept of super heroes, without being flaw free unlike some other shows that make no sense. They're nice kids under those masks, and that's just another bonus. Their chemistry will capture your heart!

I'd perhaps work more on the main villain, give him more shots /different animation screen time?

Otherwise, it's just what animation needed! I'm honestly tired of bad animated shows that show characters with no substance. Ladybug and Chat Noir are a new, exciting addition to television! I'm looking forward to what they'll do next!
  • OK so.... I hate seeing hate for this show. I can understand hating certain characters but... This show is amazing. It's full of comedy and it can contain mystery like "who's next?" and "will they ever find out?" I really wish people would give this a chance instead of reading one bad review about it. Seriously just give it a chance! If you like it, you like it. If you don't you don't. No need to make a big deal about it.

All honesty people who do that bother me greatly because they don't give it a chance just for one bad review. That's one person's thoughts and feelings for it. Everyone thinks differently.

I love the love cycles in this show. It's so awesome how funny it is when they show their love. There are some emotional parts but what's a good show without the emotional parts? OK I admit there are a couple plot holes like "Why doesn't everyone wonder why certain people vanish and a hero replaces them?" That's just me with every superhero thing though. Other than that it's perfect! It's not the garbage they're showing on TV now. (ex. of what I mean is Pickle and Peanut) It actually has a plot. They aren't grasping at straws for the next episode! They also have a real world feel in the show. I mean yes some of it's fantasy but take out the superhero's and you just have students trying to get through school trying not to be bullied by the bully/bullies. They also face things like the real world. Suspension, royalty, police, and how unfair the real world can be at times.
  • During the first season, I was a fan of the series. I have nothing to say about the basics of the story and the romance, originally, it was what interested me on the show more than the combat. However, 5 years after the beginning of the show, nothing went beyond, the character are still pretty much the same and no important revelations were made. I'm bored of the reviewing the same formula over and over again. I want some changes, this series unlike many other takes is time too much three seasons of 10 episodes would have been enough. The producers announced that there will be 5 season and that the series would end in 2021. However, I will probably watch the final in 2022. That means that this series would have been 7 years old. I think that the viewers are growing an that it would be the time to end the series. At the beginning of the first season, I gave it a 9/10 now it is a 6/10. I don't want to go below 6/10. I hope they will review their formula.
  • I am a calm, perfectly cool as a cucumber character on the verge of being a fully fledged adult. This show has somehow turned me into a fully fledged fan girl that blushes on occasion.

I've always been a fan of Batman. Maybe Cat Noir in a black super-suit just calls to me, or more likely it's the awesome fight scenes. Not to mention hilariously purrfect puns thrown in here and there.

This show will also definitely pull on the heartstrings of anyone who has experienced a maddening crush on that special someone. The beautiful landscapes of Paris just amplify the feels :)

One of the few shows I've seen where there's a great mix of drama, fighting and romance. The top notch animation definitely just pulls you in! Give the show a go, it's amazing :)

The episodes are a bit repetitive, but still very creative and unpredictable. We know the Lady will win in the end, but it's always a surprise how. The two leads are very well balanced and likable, and the series manages to create enough interest. Marinette herself is a very great role model, but still feels well rounded enough to be sincere, and the audience finds it easy to root for her and Adrien, the secondary lead; and there is enough tension between the two to keep it compelling.

But I really hope the series develops on the premise and on the conflict for the plot, rather than use it to keep propelling a status quo. Even with the series' great premise, anything gets repetitive if done for too long.

Hopefully this great series can become a REALLY great series, and with its large fanbase it'd certainly be so gratifying. Here's to season two!
  • Warning: Spoilers
Look. The concept is fine. If Thomas Astruc weren't so petty over "his vision" then maybe this series would be better than the absolute DUMPSTER FIRE it turned out to be.

First of all, Chloe. Chloe is based off a bully from the creator's childhood, and she ended up getting a redemption arc in Season 2. However, it was completely destroyed in the god-awful Season 3 finale. Her superhero identity as Queen Bee was ultimately replaced by Mary Sue. No, that's obviously not her actual name, but for the sake of not over complicating things we will refer to her as such.

According to Astruc, Chloe is "irredeemable". No. Chloe is NOT irredeemable. She was neglected by her mother; while that's not an excuse it's a reason, and if she could come so far in Season 2 alone she can continue to be redeemed. If you want an irredeemable psychopath, use Lila. Didn't she try to get Marinette expelled from school?

Let's also talk about Marinette...she's a horrible protagonist. Not only does she continue to abuse her powers for her own wants and never manages to obtain any consequences for them (unless in the final season her mess-up towards Lila in SEASON 1 comes back to haunt her). She hands out the magical jewels like candy, revealed her identity to someone already (and of all people, someone who's superhero identity was revealed t the helland was akumatized TWICE), and let's not forget her stalker behavior towards Adrien. Taking pictures of him, stealing his phone, tracking what he does...think about how people would react if this was Adrien doing this to Marinette. See what I mean?? Lila Clownsi is a better character than her, and that speaks volumes.

This show is like...let's say everyone shares my opinion of Olive Garden for a minute. You go in the restaurant as a guilty pleasure to eat Italian food, and you walk out with nothing but regret that you ever ate there. That's how I feel about this show. I wish I could tell myself from 2015 that the show would just go downhill from there, because it did. Thomas Astruc in general needs to stop acting like a child and take criticism, too.

This amazing show might be my favorite animated series of all time. It has Perfect animation of villains and heroes with different and unique kinds of powers that may or may not be introduce before. The show itself reminds me of the popular animated movies, Big Hero 6. The show contain all the necessary aspects for entertainment of younger and older audience; such as, action, love story, positive role model, and an adventurous plot that develops throughout the series. It also include a numerous of round and interesting characters. I watched the entire season 1 and I couldn't stop thinking about the show. The mystery and the obsessing romance are just so appealing. The complicated situation of the protagonists regarding their identity make the story even more intriguing, which makes the audience want to scream at the screen. I can't wait for season 2.
  • This is a sweet TV show about a high school girl who is secretly a superhero, and protects Paris with the help of a high school boy superhero. The fight are innocent and rely more on smarts than on violence. There's never any real harm done because all damage is magically repaired after a villain is defeated, and the villains are "de-evilized", so they can happily go back to their normal life.

We also follow the main character's life outside of superheroics, with a romantic quadrangle, since Marinette is in love with Adrien, a fellow student. She doesn't know that he is secretly Chat Noir and he doesn't know she is secretly Ladybug. In their superhero identities, it's Chat Noir who is in love with Ladybug. So they are both in love with each other, just in different identities.

The 3D animation is done surprisingly well, and it's perfectly suited to the cute nature of the show. It's all quite entertaining, and the main flaw is that all the episodes are basically more of the same. So, it's fluffy but enjoyable.
  • To Sum Up Miraculous Ladybug:

Pros: Fun and relatable main characters Great animation An amazing representation of the potential of 3D animation Romance is enjoyable to watch and is something to look forward to Story written in three months, great show

Cons: Lack of a threatening antagonist Cat Noir seems unneeded against the villains faced The origins of the two superheroes are put as the season finale Ladybug's main superpower is the definition of plot convenience Needs more variety of superpowers to be used by the heroes Needs more interaction with some of the secondary characters introduced

(Take note that many of these cons are confirmed to be solved within the next season.)
  • Warning: Spoilers
The start of Season 1, I was loving this show.. sure it took until the end of Season to actually give us more of a story but hey it was something. All the episodes repeat the same formula: someone gets sad/mad Hawkmoth sends out a butterfly to turn that person evil then Ladybug and Chat Noir save the day. That's pretty much all of it, so the plot is Marinette is obsessed with Adrien but is nervous to admit her feelings. While Adrien is in love with Ladybug (Marinette as a hero), so basically they both love each other but don't know it yet. I used to love Marinette in Season 1 but after a while.. she's a creepy stalker willing to take out any girl who even dares talk to him. She knows Adrien's entire schedule, and none of her friends even raise an eyebrow to it.. they encourage it!

They're so many cringe-y moments in the show, and I've never cringed so much at a show in my entire life. (I watch tons of shows and it's never this bad) So we have Adrien he's a model so it's obvious why the girls are crazy for him. Gabriel (Adrien's dad) forbids Adrien to go outside because he's a jerk, but eventually does due to Adrien wanting to make friends. The problem with Adrien he's too perfect in every way, having no flaws what so ever. And since he's Chat Noir he can't take "no" for an answer, when confessing his feelings towards Ladybug. Takes him 3 Seasons to finally move on. The more the show progresses the more you don't want these two to be together.. it seems toxic tbh.

The last thing I'm going to mention is Hawkmoth (secretly Adrien's dad) the guy who is responsible for turning people evil with his butterflies. Hawkmoth/Gabriel has his reasons, it's because if he successfully get Ladybug's and Chat Noir's miraculouses he's able to wish for his wife back. But there's a catch if he does wish for something, it has a consequence for every wish.. I'm assuming Adrien could die just to bring Gabriel's wife back. (this is just an assumption) Okay so even with this reason, Gabriel hardly cares for his son and when he somewhat did it was in the episode Gorizilla. But Chat Blanc explains what happen if he found out his son Adrien was Chat Noir, does he feel conflicted? Lol no, time to evil-lize my son with my butterflies and since he does it almost causes the end of the world! Whoa Hawkmoth you're so dumb.

Overall thoughts: This show held a special place in my heart, but as the show went on.. it was clear nothing was changing so I stopped watching it. I only rate it a 3 because I still have a soft spot for this show, it had so much potential but got wasted.
  • I would be very glad to say that this is My number one favorite TV show of all time and the best TV show in the world.

    10/10
    Adore!
I love this show so much! As an adult, I'm watching it now, as the episodes progress!
  • Okay so as you probably've guessed after reading the premise,LadyBug is a homage to the superhero and magical girl genre, and it shows in its transformation scenes,to the villain who turns innocent people into his henchmen by using his mind control powers,to the whole "oh,I'm not interested in you,Cat Noir,I got a crush on Adrien,a guy who looks just like you but can't be you" cliché.However even if it might use some clichés,most of the times they come off as a homage rather than a repetition of something which has been done over and over again. It really doesn't matter if something has been done before, what it really matters is what you make out of it.My only real problem with this show is that it feels a little bit too much like Sailor Moon, yes I know it's supposed to be a homage but sometimes the tune feels a bit generic especially when it comes about the villain. He's not bad but someone like him could very well belong to any magical girl anime who had a villain with mind control powers. Anyway outside of this the show doesn't have any other real problems and the CG is awesome by TV's standards.Okay, maybe some character look better than others but Marinette, who's our protagonist has the best design and the best transformation scenes.Originally the show was gonna have a 2D anime style but I think the art style changed for the best.By not making it look like a traditional anime they made it easier for the viewer to recognize its comic book superhero themes and the action also feels more intense because of the CG.Also for a french cartoon the English dub seems to be pretty good so far, yeah some characters sound better than others and it's once again Marinette who got the best voice and for an European cartoon you don't usually expect something like this from English dubbers.Still,I recommend you to first watch it in french if you ever decide to fallow this series.

    Warning: Spoilers
When I was younger, I used to absolutely adore this show. But like honestly? This show is a train-wreck. For the most part, there's little to no plot progression, with things only finally starting to move in Season 4.

The characters are very 2-dimensional and boring, for example, Adrien's only character trait is that he's perfect. I'd say the only well written character in this show is Felix, who's only been in like 10 episodes. I feel like the writers have no idea what they wanted to do with the plot, but then people online started posting about a particular theory, they shoehorned that in, and that's annoying.

Speaking of annoying, the protagonist - Marinette is supposed to be a relatable everyman type character, but then she does some really messed up things and gets away with it. Like, she breaks into Adrien's house on several occasions, steals his personal belongings, sniffs his pillow and she attempts to kiss him when he was pretending to be a statue. And then the writers have the nerve to be like "Oh but that's just Marinette being Marinette!" That's not normal behaviour.

And then there's Chloe, who in seasons 2 and 3, began to undergo a redemption arc. Only for the writers to do a full 180 and make her an antagonist again. And then they brought in Zoe to replace her. If this isn't terrible writing, I don't know what is.

But not only is the writing awful, the animation isn't amazing either. Anybody who's watched Miraculous can tell you about the tonnes of animation mistakes and the little to no quality control. For example, the episode Qilin looks so bad I cannot bring myself to watch it. Like, they don't even have eyelashes for half of the episode. I will admit that Qilin is the only episode in the show that looks that bad and unfinished, but still.

I will admit though, the soundtrack is pretty good, especially tracks such as "In the Rain" and "The Last Dance". Even that song Felix sings in season 5 is good (Only the French version, though.) But then there's the abomination that is the Christmas special. Because for whatever reason, they made the Christmas special a musical, and well... the songs aren't good. It doesn't help that Bryce Papenbrook, Adrien's VA, can't sing. They even got Plagg to sing and it's so bad it's funny.

Ultimately, this show isn't very good. And it's honestly such a shame, because it does have a really interesting concept. I hope in like 20 years it gets rebooted and someone competent will be in charge of writing it, because I do really love the ideas this show presents.

One of the best CGI cartoons I've ever watched, and I am in love with this show! Sometimes I watch is with my girlfriend and her sister. I have a lot of merch!

    Warning: Spoilers
I love miraculous... For its characters... (besides Marinette)

    Plot:

Let's be honest, 6 years in and this show has gotten nowhere. Almost nothing has changed between seasons 1 and 4 besides the fact Ladybug became a guardian and more and more people are getting miraculouses... The plot is still the same focusing on Marinette crushing on Adrien, sometimes attempting to fool us, trying to make us believe she's actually going to confess to her crush but no, if she were to do so, the world would literally end! Why? Cause we gotta milk this series as much as possible am I right? The story has so much more potential than it seems, if only every episode didn't have no lasting consequences for each character. For example, Marinette humiliates Lila in front of Adrien cause she's scared Lila will take Adrien away from her, even though she and Adrien aren't a thing. At the end of the episode Marinette doesn't have any consequences to face, therefore preventing Marinette from growth. In the New York special, the heroes aren't in Paris and the city takes a lot of damage while they are away, at the end of the special no one is mad at them for not showing up to protect their city, no one seems afraid that Hawkmoth could take over Paris and possess everyone and the authorities don't seem to search for Hawkmoth a lot, no investigation is ongoing, yet in an episode, I can vividly remember a police officer telling ladybug that it wasn't a kid's job to fight crime but doesn't seem preoccupied with stopping the man responsible for all these attacks... There are so many other examples but I don't feel like going over them right now as it would take hours to write them all.

Each time a big risk is taken in an episode, one that could move the plot forward, everybody forgets by the end of the episode, so the plot doesn't go anywhere..

The miraculous aren't and will probably never be correctly explained in an interesting way.

The plot is repetitive, afraid of change and has become uninteresting.

    Characters:

Marinette is a creepy, obsessed stalker, a mary-sue who ultimately has everything go her way (we all know she and Adrien will end up together at the end), no one stays mad at her even when she screws up, everyone seems to like her, she ALWAYS finds a solution to everything... She's just... Boring...

Adrien is waaaay better yet has less than one tenth of Marinette's screentime even though he's a main character, his story would be a far better focus, the drama in his family is easily the most interesting part of the show which is weird because this show is about magic and superheroes... He deserves better than Marinette.

Chloe is just as good, she had a sort of redemption arc in season 2 but got screwed over by the writers in season 3 and especially season 4 because the creator does not like her but she's waaay better than Marinette. Everyone is in this show.

Gabriel is really weird sometimes he really cares about his son and sometimes he doesn't care at all, to the point of akumatizing Adrien in some episodes. Still he's got an understable goal and tries... Maybe not his hardest but he tries... Better than Marinette...

The animation in this show is really inconsistent, some episodes look awesome, some not so much...

Overall this show is meh, but I love it for its characters besides Marinette, who unfortunately gets 99% of the screentime in this show... The fanfics are better than the show..
  • Warning: Spoilers
I was searching for something good to watch and I found this show with a 8.5 rating and great reviews so I thought: "Wow, awesome" and then I watched it... it wasn't bad... but definitely not good.

The CGI is good, the people and backgrounds are great, especially for a show like this but sometimes there is way too much movement which made me think: "this should have been in 2D" but it's still visually impressive so that's a good point for the show.

The fight scenes are good too. Cat Noir's power is awesome. Ladybug's power is... original... I'm sorry, I think her power is lame, getting a random object that somehow end up saving the day, this is a power McGyver should have, not a magical girl. But like I said, overall, the fight scenes are good.

The music is good, the voices match the characters and it got a few laugh out of me so nothing bad to say here.

But the thing that killed this show for me is... THE PLOT. More precisely, the plot progression or lack of it in this case. Basicaly, you can watch the first 2 episodes and then go directly to episode 22 without missing anything. No new characters, no character disappearance, no twist, nothing. I am not joking, I had to re-watch it to make sure of it but the first two episodes introduce you to the important characters and it is finally in episode 22 that a new important character appears. I was waiting for something to happen mid-season, as something usually happen in other shows, but there was nothing. The plot even goes backward, yeah the season final, which is usually supposed to be some conclusion to a part of the story, show you how the main characters got their powers. So the last two episodes, are actually the first two episodes.

So in conclusion, it's watchable, but not the greatest show I've seen this year, or even this month. I'm definitely waiting for season 2 in hope the story will finally move forward but if like me you get bored and disappointed at the mid-season just know you can skip to episode 22 without worry.
  • It's one of those shows that you don't want to watch until you start to and you can't stop. I was just going through Netflix when I cane upon this show. It's a perfect example of don't judge a book by its cover, it's so much more than just Ladybug and Chat Noir.

It has parent problems, bad guys for the wrong reasons, a main love square but so many more ships beyond that, friendship drama, and so much more. I wish everyone would get over the first season and move on to the masterpieces that the other seasons are.

I love this show with everything in me, Adrain is perfect, Luka is amazing, Chloe has a beautiful character arc, etc. You will always feel something while watching it and I recommend it to everyone.

I've gotta admit the plot is amazing. But I HATE the unnecessary episodes. That is only there to stall. The reason why I HIGLY dislike it is preetty obvious. It's because there's no reason of the episode being there. Nothing really is happening. No character development, no Adrinette moment, Nothing, absolutely nothing. If they hid some secvret things that'll come back in the future as something very important. That would've been something....
  • Very overrated children's show. Very repetitive, no plot, and nearly every character is just an exaggerated stereotype.

Romance, which predictably drives the main plot, is nothing but a huge huge cheese-fest, and the typical love triangle is escalated into a love square due to the incompetence of the two mains and their shared inability to recognize each others' faces.

Invincible heroes who never lose do absolutely nothing for the plot. Good for young children who don't need to understand what they're watching.

Wouldn't recommend to anyone older than 8.
  • Even though I'm 15, I still seem to enjoy this show since it's so interesting to me.
