The writing is mostly obvious , maybe except of 1-2 episodes. Second, the acting is mostly average minus. BUT They have lots of scenes outside which is nice, you can see them actually living the life and not stuck inside a studio (like on many other shows). Also, the make up on the actors is in the right amount (the kids don't seem like dolls on this show. They actually look natural).
