The crew of the USS Enterprise explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a new ruthless enemy, who puts them, and everything the Federation stands for, to the test.
Among the many references to the earlier series, Star Trek: Enterprise (2001) was referenced when the U.S.S. Franklin was described having polarized hull plating (instead of shields), spatial torpedoes (original versions), and plasma cannons. Other references to the prequel series include mentioning the Xindi and the MACOs.
Captain James T. Kirk:
There's no such thing as the unknown, only things temporarily hidden, temporarily not understood.
When McCoy pours the brandy for Kirk's private birthday toast, the noise of the liquid pouring is only heard twice. He does make a motion to pour a third time, but there is no pouring sound. However, it shortly after cuts to a longer shot showing three filled glasses.
There is a giant green energy-hand, in the closing credits, mentioned in the movie as one of the possibilities for a ship lost in space.
