Lainey Wilson Interpolates a Judy Garland Classic in ‘Somewhere Over Laredo’
Image
Lainey Wilson frames her new song about romance, small towns, and rodeos around a beloved classic: The Wizard of Oz’s centerpiece song, “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” performed by Judy Garland. “Somewhere Over Laredo,” Wilson’s latest, interpolates the melody of Garland’s hopeful ballad into its chorus, with nostalgic results.

“Caught me a red-eye flight out of Houston/Found me a window seat with a view/Headed out west for south California/One Tito’s in I’m thinking about you,” she sings. “Knowing 20 minutes from now/I’ll...

Prime Video's 'My Fault: London' Is Getting a Trilogy
Image
One of the most oddly divisive movies to come from Prime Video recently is getting a sequel. Likened upon release to a Fast and Furious-style thriller with a controversial romance at its center, the movie proved to be a major hit with audiences despite some scathing reviews from critics. Clearly, the critical response will not stop the franchise from trying to step up a gear in a follow-up.

Released on Amazon Prime Video back in February, My Fault: London proved to be a surprise hit on the streaming platform. Now, the romance thriller, which is itself a remake of the hit Spanish-language Culpa mía (My Fault) franchise, will not only get a sequel, but two sequels, wrapping up with a trilogy.

The Culpa mía movies were adapted from author Mercedes Ron’s Wattpad novels, with My Fault: London transporting the romance and action from Spain to the streets of London,...

New Prime Video Movie Has Set A Major Streaming Record Following Trailer Release
Image
A new movie trailer on Prime Video has broken a major streaming record. In 2024, Deadpool & Wolverine's movie trailer went viral, garnering 365 million views across platforms in the first 24 hours, and became the most-viewed movie trailer of all time in the first 24 hours, surpassing Spider-Man: No Way Home's record. Original streaming movies, which began to emerge in recent years, have been quietly making history.

Prime Video, in particular, has a lot of exciting new projects in store for 2025. Based on the true story of Anthony Robles (Jharrel Jerome), Unstoppable stars Jennifer Lopez as a devoted mother and became the most popular movie on the platform. April saw the release of G20, headlined by Oscar-winner Viola Davis as U.S. President Danielle Sutton, being targeted by attackers. This was followed by the Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick co-led sequel, Another Simple Favor, in May.

Image
In addition to Lois pleading with Dante, General Hospital spoilers for Tuesday, May 6, 2025, focus on Kristina opening up to Lucky and Drew getting key intel.

Next on General Hospital

Lois’s plea to Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) suggests that one of the show’s current long-running secrets is finally out. Either that or Lois (Rena Sofer) wants Dante to fix the relationship between Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) and Lulu (Alexa Havins), or whatever is going on with Rocco (Finn Carr) that caused him to imbibe too much grog at the beach party. It looks like Dante will have it out for Gio because Rocco drank too much at the beach party and ended up in the hospital for alcohol poisoning.

But what it really needs to be about is that Dante discovers a million years after everyone else that he’s the father of another boy. And that Brook Lynn never...

Banijay Entertainment’s Steve Matthews Drills Down on Europe’s Crime Boom, ‘Local for Local,’ Genre as a ‘Scalpel to Cut Into Society’
Image
Banijay Entertainment’s three shows selected for Series Mania underscore just how far the film-tv’s giant has come in scripted, and most especially its vast range,

Apple TV+’s “Carême,” from Banijay’s Shine Fiction, opened the French TV festival, Europe’s largest, delivering a portrait of the world’s first celebrity chef, the Napoleonic-era Antonin Carême, as Variety reports, a “sex-oozing rock star.”

Playing Series Mania in International Panorama, “A Life’s Worth,” from Banijay Nordics’ Yellowbird, follows the challenges faced by the first Swedish U.N. battalion, made up of volunteers, sent to Bosnia in 1993.

Subject of a Series Mania Forum, “Weiss & Morales” allies two of Europe’s most energetic public broadcasters, Germany’s Zdf and Spain’s Rtve, and a German and Spanish cop cracking a case in the sun-sluiced Canary Islands, against Omg landscapes, a hallmark of its Spanish producer, Banijay-owned Portocabo.

Tyler Perry is a massive media mogul, with many movies and television shows spread across multiple streaming services. The actor, writer, director, and producer is perhaps best known for playing Madea, a tough elderly woman who has appeared in several stage plays, a dozen movies, and numerous television series. From 2020 to 2024, he wrote and directed A Fall from Grace, A Madea Homecoming, A Jazzman's Blues, Mea Culpa, and The Six Triple Eight – all for Netflix. Many of these movies were panned by critics, but were somewhat popular on the streaming service. In 2025, Perry has Madea's Destination Wedding and several new shows premiering. Gojira Win Best Metal Performance Grammy for Olympics Anthem “Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!)”
Image
Gojira won the 2025 Grammy for Best Metal Performance on Sunday (February 2nd). The award was presented during the Premiere Ceremony that streamed online prior to the main televised ceremony.

The French metal band took home the Grammy for “Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!),” along with collaborators Marina Viotti and Victor Le Masne. Gojira stole the show during the Summer Olympics opening ceremony in Paris back in July, delivering a mesmerizing performance of the song outside the windows of the Conciergerie building, a former prison and courthouse that sits along the River Seine.

In the Best Metal Performance category, Gojira beat out Judas Priest’s “Crown of Horns,” Metallica’s “Screaming Suicide,” Spiritbox’s “Cellar Door,” and Knocked Loose’s “Suffocate” featuring Poppy.

In a somewhat confusing moment, the house band at the Grammy ceremony played Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” as Gojira walked to the stage to receive their award.

One of the latest collaborations between Netflix and Tyler Perry drops a new preview as Perry's most notable character is ready to wreak havoc again. The newest Perry film, Madea's Destination Wedding, releases first-look imagery ahead of its release later this year.

The True Story Behind Netflix's The Six Triple Eight Explained
Image
20 years ago, Tyler Perry caught Hollywood completely by surprise when his low-budget romantic comedy "Diary of a Mad Black Woman" opened to $22 million at the U.S. box office. Though critics savaged the film, it received a sterling A+ CinemaScore from audience exit polls, thus indicating that Perry knew precisely what this underserved segment of African-American moviegoers were desperately craving. After this stunning success, Perry was off to the races, churning out at least one movie per year -- a pace that's even more amazing when you factor in the myriad of television series he began producing in 2007. Tyler Perry, whose base of operations is an Atlanta studio that bears his name, is a one-man entertainment industry.

While Perry seems untroubled by his continued lack of critical acclaim, he has on occasion attempted to mount a prestige film with the kind of socially important pedigree that goes down well with Academy Awards voters.

Tyler Perry’s ‘The Six Triple Eight’ Is His Most-Watched Netflix Movie to Date, Boosts His Other Movies on the Streamer by 45% (Exclusive)
Image
Tyler Perry’s “The Six Triple Eight” is not only his most-watched Netflix movie to date — with 52.4 million views over its first four weeks on the streamer — but the historical drama has also boosted viewership for his other films on the service.

Netflix tells Variety that eyeballs on Perry’s four other Netflix films increased by more than 45% since “The Six Triple Eight” began streaming on Dec. 20. Plus, the film reached the Top 10 in more than 85 countries, the most of any film he’s made for the streamer.

It stands to reason that viewership numbers like these were what Netflix and Perry had in mind when the two parties entered into a multi-year first-look film deal in 2023. Perry, famous for his volume as a producer, has also turned the titles around swiftly compared to other overall creators at Netflix. His deal expanded last year to include series like “Beauty in Black,...

Netflix's 2024 War Movie Sets A Viewership Streaming Record For Tyler Perry

Tyler Perry's 2024 war movie has achieved a new Netflix viewership record for the filmmaker. Perry is arguably best known for the Madea franchise, a character Perry created and has portrayed across numerous projects. Perry is also known for his House of Payne series that aired for 11 seasons on TBS, during which Madea made several appearances.

Beyond many of his movies being available to stream on Netflix, Perry has directed several Netflix original movies in recent years. Netflix's New WW2 Movie Can't Shake Off Tyler Perry's Poor Rotten Tomatoes Streak

Critics have never been especially reliable supporters of Tyler Perry. The creator of the comedic Madea franchise, Perry began his career as a relatively unknown playwright. Gojira Unveil Official Music Video for Olympics Song “Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!)”: Watch
Image
Gojira have released an official music video for their electrifying performance of “Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!)” at the Olympics opening ceremony in Paris this past summer.

The video captures the performance in all its glory, with the members of Gojira playing the song from platforms outside the windows of the Conciergerie building, a former prison and courthouse that sits along the River Seine. As they deliver the metal version of the French Revolution-era song “Ah, Ça Ira!,” they are joined by opera singer Marina Viotti, who floats down the river in a wooden ship.

This new official version of the video gets rid of the semi-annoying commentary from the original broadcast’s NBC announcers, and lets the music and visuals do the talking.

At the end of August, Gojira released an official single version of the song, which went on to be nominated for Best Metal Performance at the upcoming 2025 Grammy Awards.

Netflix Film Exec Niija Kuykendall Departing At End Of Year; Jason Young Upped To VP Film Amid Pod Reorg – Update
Image
Updated November 13, 2:59 p.m., with exclusive details: Netflix VP Film Niija Kuykendall is the latest executive out at the streamer amid staff trimming heading into the holidays.

We hear that Kuykendall will depart after a transition period through the end of the year. No next destination was disclosed.

Sources tell us the departure comes amidst the continued realignment of Netflix’s ‘pod’ system of executive oversight since Dan Lin took over the streamer’s top film post from Scott Stuber earlier this year — a system that has executives responsible for oversight of particular genres.

With Netflix for nearly three years, Kuykendall has had oversight of faith-based, YA and holiday films. Amidst her departure, YA will move over the comedies and rom-coms pod led by Jason Young, who we’ve learned exclusively has been promoted to VP Film. In more news, faith-based and holiday films will move over to the...

The Tyler Perry TV Series That's Thriving On Netflix's Top Charts
Image
In February 2024, a spicy crime drama reigned over the Netflix top 10. That crime drama was "Mea Culpa," the first product to come out of a multi-year first-look deal between Netflix and Tyler Perry. Unfortunately, the critical response to this Kelly Rowland-led outing didn't bode well for future Perry/Netflix emissions, with "Mea Culpa" garnering a damning 18% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That said, we live in an age where streaming success is enough, and it seems there will be no slowing down for Perry as his new 8-episode drama series has similarly dominated the Netflix charts.

"Tyler Perry's Beauty in Black" is described by Tudum as an "easy-on-the-eyes series." If that's not enough to set off alarm bells, the synopsis might be. Set in Atlanta, "Beauty in Black" follows Kimmie (Taylor Polidore Williams), an exotic dancer struggling to make ends meet who eventually crosses paths with Mallory (Crystle Stewart) a...

Gojira’s Olympics Performance Majestically Projected on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris: Watch
Image
Gojira’s thrilling performance during the opening ceremonies of the Paris Olympics earlier this summer was momentous on a global scale for both the band and heavy metal in general. We might be biased here at Heavy Consequence, but it clearly stole the show.

As a post-celebration of Paris hosting the Summer Games, Gojira’s performance of “Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça Ira)” was projected against the famous Arc de Triomphe monument in Place Charles de Gaulle over the weekend.

Gojira themselves weren’t there this time around, as they are in the midst of supporting Korn on a North American tour (pick up tickets here). Instead, a striking visage of the band from the opening ceremony — performing outside the windows of the Conciergerie building overlooking the River Seine — was projected against the archway at night.

Really, the only thing missing from the reprisal was the band.

Meanwhile, frontman Jonathan Davis and company performed three songs each from classic ’90s albums Life Is Peachy, Follow the Leader, and Issues, with each album represented in three-song encore: “Falling Away From Me,” “Good God,” and the show-closing “Freak on a Leash.” Among the highlights was the band’s first performance of “Hey Daddy” since 1999.

Kelly Rowland, who starred in this year’s Mea Culpa, had an argument with a security guard at the red carpet of the festival when she was pushed away from the event quickly.

While Rowland did not expand on what the argument was about, the guard was seen pushing around Dominican actress Massiel Taveras on the red carpet while she posed for the press. Netflix Adds 9.33 Million Subscribers in Q1, Blowing Past Estimates to Reach Nearly 270 Million Total
Image
Netflix reported its first-quarter 2024 earnings Thursday, revealing it added a whopping 9.33 million paid subscribers.

Analysts consensus estimates were for Netflix to add 3.93 million paid subs globally in Q1 (to reach 264.21 million), according to StreetAccount. Per Netflix, it has now climbed to 269.60 million subs as of March 31.

These impressive Q1 results come following a better-than-expected 13.1 million subscribers added for the fourth quarter of 2023, which was a Q4 record for Netflix. Despite this back-to-back growth worth boasting about, Netflix announced Thursday it will stop reporting quarterly sub totals beginning in 2025, a move that is sure to shock an industry that has been fueled by the battle for streaming subscribers for years.

The Q1 2024 lineup that fueled Netflix’s sub growth included its live-action adaptation of “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” the “Game of Thrones” creator’s sci-fi series “3 Body Problem,” Guy Ritchie’s “The Gentleman,” the latest season of “Love Is Blind,...
