MaryAnn’s quick take… Culturally clueless cinematic vomit, a cynical undertaking embracing the most diminishing clichés it can apply to its characters. Low stakes, and low humor. I’m “biast” (pro): big fan of Dwayne Johnson, occasion fan of Jack Black
I’m “biast” (con): nothing

More than 20 years after 1995’s Jumanji — the family adventure film about a couple of kids who get sucked into an ancient board game and have to play it to completion to escape — the sequel has arrived… and this time, it’s all about hapless teens who get sucked into a videogame and have to play it to completion to escape. Was anyone demanding a second go at Jumanji? Zathura, the 2005 “spiritual sequel” — which, to be fair, does sound more like marketing baloney than anything else — was a flop. And, to be “fair” to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,...

After Steven Spielberg and company broke visual effects barriers with Jurassic Park, two years later, 1995’s Jumanji brought more large-scale, creature-focused thrills to theaters. Directed by Joe Johnston–who would go on to get his own crack at the dinosaur franchise a few years down the road–the Robin Williams-led adventure occupies that rare subset of oft-replayed, worn-down VHS tapes from childhood that one might be hesitant to revisit for fear of the nostalgic charm wearing off. In many ways, the set-up of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle may quell some trepidation in this regard.
Functioning as a sequel rather than a reboot, there’s gratefully no CGI recreation of Robin Williams (in fact, only a brief reference), an altogether different setting as we go into the game rather than vice versa, and more modern concerns in virtually every aspect (Yes, “yaaass queen” is uttered during an action scene...

Justin Timberlake is that rare superstar combo: a celebrated singer who’s also a popular actor. Hot off of the heels of being announced as next year’s Super Bowl Halftime performer, he’ll soon be seen going up against Oscar winner Kate Winslet in Woody Allen’s Wonder Wheel.
How did a former ‘Nsync boy band member end up in a film with mounting Oscar buzz? Here’s a look at the 36-year-old’s evolution from singer to thespian.

I've had a change of heart recently when it comes to sequels. After seeing Blade Runner 2049, I really believe sequels can be a good thing when done right. Even when the sequel is decades after the original. And in the spirit of believing, I really believe the new Jumanji movie is going to be great.
The new trailer for Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle doesn't show too much of anything new. It feels mostly like it's focusing on showing off the Rock as much as possible. "Wow, isn't the Rock strong?", "The Rock is so handsome", "The Rock doesn't take anything from anybody". We get it, Dwayne, you are great! Even with all the focus on the Rock, it still is pretty cool. It gives a better idea of how this Jumanji is connected to the first.

It’s good to be bad. Or at least that’s the case at the box office when it comes to Hollywood comedies such as “Bad Moms Christmas”, “Bad Santa”, “Horrible Bosses”, “Bad Teacher”, “Bad Grandpa” and… well, you get the idea. Sony Pictures has released new domestic and international trailers for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and they offer lots of fun and adventurous new footage that I think some of you will enjoy. We even get a glimpse at what happens to the board game version of Jumanji from the original film. It looks like maybe the person who finds the board game on the beach ended up being the one to adapt it into a video game.
When I first heard about this movie getting made I was a little leery, but I've really enjoyed what I've seen in the trailers that have been released, especially in these new ones. I'm actually excited to take the fam to go see the movie! Watch the trailer and tell us what you think!

There’s several ways you can look at “Jumanji,” a reboot of the franchise started in 1995 with Robin Williams, but quickly abandoned. One, the modern version features Dwayne Johnson, arguably the world’s biggest and bankable star, so it has that going for it. It also looks like a cross between “Kong: Skull Island” and “Land Of The Lost.”

But what’s perhaps more interesting to us is the fact the film’s being directed by Jake Kasdan, the comedy filmmaker behind films like “Bad Teacher” “Sex Tape” and Judd Apatow’s “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.” And like many filmmakers around him, Kasdan is making the ambitious leap into big-budget filmmaking with “Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle.

Cameron Diaz got her big break in Hollywood when she auditioned for 1994's The Mask at 21 years old. At the time, Cameron was working as a model, and despite having no prior acting experience, her career took off. Since then, Cameron has gone on to star in several films, including 1997's My Best Friend's Wedding, 1998's There's Something About Mary, 2002's The Sweetest Thing, and 2011's Bad Teacher. In addition to her impressive movie roles, Cameron also added author to her résumé with her two books, The Body Book and The Longevity Book. Cameron has certainly come a long way, and her evolution is a testament to that. RelatedThere's Something About Cameron Diaz: Look Back at Her Many Loves...

The first full trailer has been released for Dwayne Johnson's Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and the movie turned out to look a lot better than I was expecting! It actually looks like it could be a lot of fun! I love the whole avatar concept and how the main actors are really playing teenagers in these adult bodies that they now inhabit. Johnson, Jack Black, Karen Gillan, and Kevin Hart will definitely bring on the laughs. Jack Black just might steal the show as he plays a teenage girl. This is going to be an entertaining comedy adventure!

In the teaser for the Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle trailer we see a jogger discover the cursed board game on a tropical beach. Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan star in this sequel directed by Jake Kasdan (Sex Tape, Bad Teacher).

Since saying “Bye, Bye, Bye” in 2002, Justin Timberlake, Jc Chasez, Joey Fatone, Lance Bass and Chris Kirkpatrick have each built careers for themselves outside of ‘Nsync — the blockbuster boyband that brought them worldwide fame in the ’90s.
Though there aren’t plans for the group to get back together and make music any time soon, they’re still good friends — reuniting most recently in August for Chasez’s 40th birthday bash.
“The guys spent the entire night together,” a source told People at the time. “They all sat in a group and just reunited, relived and had such a ball.

Even five years ago, it would have been hard to imagine Jason Segel, the Muppet-loving, butt-baring star of modern comedy classics like “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “Knocked Up” as some kind of Sundance darling, but that’s exactly how the actor found his unexpected second act.
When Segel was picked to star as the lauded and immensely troubled late author David Foster Wallace in James Ponsoldt’s “The End of the Tour,” the filmmaker’s decision to cast the lovably goofy “This is 40” and “How I Met Your Mother” star was met with plenty of skepticism. Segel, however, dove deeply into preparing for the role, listening to the recordings of journalist David Lipsky (played by Jesse Eisenberg in the 2015 drama) and watching clips of Foster online to get a sense of the writer’s presence. He even started his own book club to read and discuss Foster’s “Infinite Jest.

Sony Pictures introduced an updated sequel to follow up 1995’s Jumanji starring the late Robin Williams, Kirsten Dunst and Bonnie Hunt.
Additionally, the second film isn’t even a direct sequel, but more of an updated and different take on the concept. It is also retitled as Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.
At CinemaCon 2017, Sony Picture brought on the stars of the film that included Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan and Jack Black. Johnson indicated there will be a few scenes that will show respect and as an homage towards the original film and Robin Williams.
Kevin Hart joined in the fun through a video, in which the whole cast praised everyone in production except for Hart. And Hart was making pissed off faces that his fellow cast members didn’t mentioned in on stage.

This Past Weekend:
The Lego Batman Movie won the weekend as expected, but not with nearly as much money as I had predicted, not besting the opening of The Lego Movie as expected, but instead ending up with a reasonable and not so bad $53 million. Fifty Shades Darker proved that the audience for movies based on the popular books was still great enough for it to win Friday with $21 million (to Lego Batman’s $15 million) and end up second for the weekend with a strong $46.6 million. That was still almost $40 million less than the opening of the previous movie Fifty Shades of Grey, but the sequel also didn’t have the benefits of Valentine’s Day and a four-day holiday. Showtime has released a trailer for a fantastic looking stand-up comedy series called I'm Dying Up Here. The series is set Los Angeles in the 1970s, and it "delves into the inspired and damaged psyches that inhabit the hilarious, but complex business of making an audience laugh."
Jim Carrey is an executive producer on the one-hour series, which is set in a time where the careers of comedy legends like David Letterman, Jay Leno and Richard Pryor were launched. The story follows a fictional group of "competitive but close-knit comedians... mentored by 'Goldie' (Melissa Leo), a brassy comedy club owner who rules over her business with an iron fist, but nurtures her comedians with tough love. For Goldie and her crew, there’s truly no such thing as an easy laugh."

You know how they say when a stand-up comedian is failing miserably, he’s “dying”? Well, Showtime’s new dramedy I’m Dying Up Here knows all about that feeling.
Set to the groovy tune of “Blinded by the Light,” the first trailer for the upcoming series, set in the stand-up comedy scene of 1970s L.A., delivers just as much angst as it does laughter. And it comes courtesy of a guy who lived through it: Mega-star Jim Carrey, a stand-up veteran himself, is an executive producer.

Dwayne Johnson is deep in the production of his upcoming film Jumanji, and he recently shared some new photos from the film. As you’ll see, they have a very gritty look to them, and Johnson is doing a little bit of brawling. It’s not surprising that the movie would have a very different look than the original 1995 film. About the image above, Johnson said:

It’s only September, but ABC already is thinking about Next Summer, buying a single-camera comedy from Bad Teacher creator Hilary Winston, Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment. Sony Pictures TV, where Winston is under an overall deal, is the studio. Next Summer, in development for next season, is based on the Norwegian comedy series of the same name, local title Neste Sommer, which has aired on Tvn for four seasons. Since production officially kicked off on the Hawaiian set of Jumanji, not a day has went by when some morsel of information hasn’t emerged from the depths of the jungle.
The mere inclusion of Dwayne Johnson means that those status reports can typically be traced back to the actor’s lively Instagram feed and sure enough, Johnson’s social platform has offered up our first look at Nick Jonas suited and booted on the Jumanji set.
An absentee from the group shot of Johnson (Spencer/Dr. Bravestone), Kevin Hart (Moose Finbar), Jack Black (Professor Shelly Oberon (Black), and Karen Gillan’s Ruby Roundhouse, little is currently known regarding Jonas’ involvement in Sony’s star-studded sequel, and Dwayne Johnson’s caption offers up nothing to change that fact:

In 1995, TriStar Pictures released Joe Johnston’s family adventure film “Jumanji,” starring Robin Williams and Bonnie Hunt, about a board game that comes to life and wreaks havoc until the players have completed it. The film was a box office success and has had a lasting impact on a generation of kids.

A lot of people seem to be excited about the upcoming Jumanji sequel starring Dwayne Johnson. The film is currently in production, and today Kevin Hart released the first officially photo from the film. It features himself with Johnson, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black, and as you can see they all look great and ready to embark on a dangerous adventure.
A couple weeks ago some concept art was released, giving us an early glimpse at what his character would look like. At the time it was rumored that Johnson's character Dr. Bravestone was the avatar of the person playing the game. I assume if that's true, then all of the characters we see in this new photo are avatars of the players (most likely kids) that are playing the game.
Johnson has previously talked about how the film will honor the memory of Robin Williams:

Dwayne Johnson has released a piece of concept art giving us our first look at the character he'll be playing in the upcoming Jumanji sequel. The name of his character is Spencer, a.k.a. The Smoldering Dr. Bravestone.
Johnson makes a funny observation in the caption for the photos in which he states, "not sure where my pecs went." That was the first thing I noticed in the art. I've never seen The Rock so flat-chested! The rest of the note is as follows:
This is gonna be fun.. Me, @kevinhart4real, Jack Black, @NickJonas and the Ginger Assassin @karengillanofficial can't wait to "play the game that plays you". #Jumanji #DrBravestone #KingOfTheSmolder#TheAdventureContinues...

This is what happens when men try to tell a story primarily about women — and also try to ape Charlie Kaufman — and fail miserably. I’m “biast” (pro): desperate for stories about women
I’m “biast” (con): nothing

There are naked breasts everywhere in Brazilian-Canadian indie Zoom. Real breasts, photographs of real breasts, prosthetic breasts meant to be taken as real, doll breasts (on Real Doll-esque sex toys), comic-book-style animated breasts. Two of Zoom’s three concurrent interconnected stories are about, in large part, body image and body insecurity. In one, a woman frets over the size of her breasts; in the other, a man frets over the size of his penis. Take a guess if we ever see a penis.

Jonas’s casting in film dubbed as ‘reimagining’ of the 1995 classic starring Robin Williams would mark the pop star’s biggest foray into acting
Pop star and actor Nick Jonas is close to joining Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and Jack Black in a reboot of Jumanji, the 1995 family fantasy starring Robin Williams.
Jake Kasdan (Bad Teacher) will be taking over from the director of the original, Joe Johnston. His remake is once again based on the award-winning adventure book by Chris Van Allsburg, about a magical board game that unleashes havoc upon the world after some curious youngsters find it hidden in an attic.

Hollywood franchise-building is a competitive business, so it’s remarkable to see how many different studios have agreed to put aside their differences and allow the Bad series to develop across various corporate borders. Sure, there may not any formal connection between Bad Santa, Bad Teacher, Bad Grandpa, Bad Words, Bad Gymnast (sorry, The Bronze), and the new Bad Moms apart from the universal desire to attract audiences with the promise of zanily inappropriate behavior from people who are supposed to be role models and/or authority figures. But they do seem to be the product of an agreement that everyone is allowed to rip off this concept from everyone else. All of these studios and filmmakers may revel in bad behavior, but they seem to know how to share.

After Dwyane Johnson posted those comments regarding his Jumanji remake and how they wanted to honor Robin Williams in the process of making this film, I kind of opened up to the idea. Then news hit that Jack Black was in talks to join the film project, and now I have closed back up.
I’m not the biggest Jack Black fan. It’s been a long time since he’s been in a film that I’ve really enjoyed. The guy is just a turn off to me when it comes to films. If he’s cast, though, he will star alongside Johnson and Kevin Hart, who will take on unknown roles in the story.
Johnson previously revealed that there would be five main characters in their story. There are no details on what the film will be about, but I imagine it will involve these characters finding and...

Dwayne Johnson teased earlier in the week that casting announcements for Sony Pictures’ Jumanji reboot were imminent and sure enough, The Wrap is reporting that Goosebumps and Kung Fu Panda star Jack Black is in negotiations to land a role in Jake Kasdan’s (Bad Teacher, Sex Tape) long-rumored reboot.
Details of Black’s role are being kept under lock and key for now, but Dwayne Johnson did hint that the adventure flick – set to be based once again on Chris Van Allsburg’s inimitable 1981 novel – will revolve around a cast of five characters, as opposed to the trio that stole hearts back in 1995.
As a matter of fact, in ensuring fans are kept in the loop via Instagram, Johnson himself revealed that Sony’s Jumanji will commemorate the late, great Robin Williams in some shape or form, who rolled the dice as Alan Parrish all those years ago.

Robin Williams’ memorable turn as Alan Parrish will be honored during Sony Pictures’ upcoming Jumanji reboot.
That’s according to Dwayne Johnson, who recently inked a deal to headline the studio’s modern reimagining of the beloved 1995 adventure film and posted a heartfelt message to Instagram regarding the nascent remake to allay fears that Sony’s new take would in any way tarnish the memory left by the late, great, Williams.
Beyond teasing that the film’s commemoration would be crafted in “an earnest and cool way,” little is known about Sony’s plans to integrate Alan Parrish into the story. But as Johnson’s Instagram post reveals, the project is coming together really rather quickly.
