| If you make a hacker-movie, at least get your basic facts right..
I must say when I watched the trailer for this movie I was skeptical, there are only a few hacker- movies that are enjoyable to watch.

Sometimes I am wrong and the movie turns out to be better then I expected but not in this case. I actually got quite annoyed watching this. The computer action looked authentic by using existing OS-es and interfaces but they still made huge mistakes. IP's with numbers higher than 255 is just plain stupid and accessing a top-secret NSA program with some simple social engineering looked convincing on screen but I doubt the NSA allows simple user/pass access to such tooling. I could go on and on...

I did like the idea of the plot, too bad the execution was so terrible. Probably the only thing I really liked where the two big shootout scenes, you saw a bit of Heat's director Mann there:)

Unsynced audio and weird changes in volume where also very annoying, something you don't expect from a $70mil movie.

I'm giving this a +1 because it tried to be authentic so a 4 bumps up to a 5/10 rating.

Did You Know?

Trivia

Michael Mann had final cut on the theatrical version, but he continued to work on the film after the release. In February 2016, Mann presented an alternative Director's Cut at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, which hosted screenings of his work. According to reports the new version added some material, deleted other material, had some important sequences in a different order and used some alternative footage, but the film still told the same story. Since Mann reportedly took notes while watching the new version with the audience, this was probably not his final version. It is not known if and when a new cut will be released.

Quotes

Sadak: Some times I wake up in the morning and I don't even know who I am. Where I am. In what country. And you know me?
Nicholas Hathaway: I know you, and you're about money, because it's your scoreboard in the virtual world.

Goofs

During the nighttime shootout in Hong Kong, a POV shot shows Agent Barrett looking up at Building 2 of the International Finance Centre. This building is several miles from the location of the firefight (outside the Quarry Bay MTR station) and would not be visible from this angle.

Alternate Versions

Michael Mann premiered the Director's Cut during a retrospective of his films at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on February 10, 2016. This version is three minutes longer than the theatrical release, and opens with the hacking attack on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, rather than the Hong Kong nuclear plant attack, which has been moved to the middle of the film. Some scenes and dialogue exchanges have also been cut or shortened. This version was shown on FX on May 9, 2017, and several days later it was made available on DirecTV Now, Hulu with Live TV and other streaming services.
