When a freak hurricane swamps Los Angeles, nature's deadliest killer rules sea, land, and air as thousands of sharks terrorize the waterlogged populace.
Steve Guttenberg was offered the lead role of Fin Shepard, but turned it down. When the film became a cult hit, Guttenberg regretted it to the point that he accepted a role in Syfy's Lavalantula (2015), a movie about giant fire-breathing tarantulas that attack Los Angeles.
Captain Carlos Santiago:
Palmer: It's good. Not great. But seeing that you are a businessman, Mr. Santiago.
Captain Carlos Santiago: Captain.
Palmer: Captain. My associates and I are willing to negotiate with you a reasonable price. $100,000.
Captain Carlos Santiago: One million for the whole catch! Not a penny less!
Palmer: One million ...
(at around 1h 9 mins) In the helicopter take-off scene, a close-up of the vertical speed indicator clearly shows the aircraft is descending at almost 900 ft/min.
The closing credits start, appropriately, with the word 'Fin', which is Spanish and French for 'End'.
