Another year of Grammy nominations, another year of K-pop fans having to cope with the fact that none of their favorite performers made it in.
Solo artists Jung Kook, Rm, and Jimin were all eligible to be nominated at the 2025 Grammys, but they were ignored when the noms were announced on Friday, Nov. 8 by the Recording Academy — see the full list. So why isn’t K-pop music taken more seriously at the Grammys?
Jimin and Jung Kook both broke streaming records with their singles “Like Crazy” and “Seven,” respectively, and Rm was added to many respectable “best of” lists at music publications for his album “Right Place, Wrong Person.” South Korean artists are clearly here to stay, so perhaps it’s just a matter of opening up the eyes (and the ears) of the Recording Academy members by introducing them to new styles of music they may not have grown up with.

BTS member Jimin has released a new solo single, “Smeraldo Garden Marching Band (feat. Loco),” along with a whimsical music video. The track, off the singer’s forthcoming LP Muse, was loosely inspired by the Beatles’ 1967 album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band and features South Korean rapper Loco.
Jimin collaborated with producers Pdogg, Ghstloop, and Evan, who also contributed to his debut solo album, Face. What better gift for the holiday season than a new release from Jimin of BTS? Despite all seven members now enlisted in the South Korean military, Army isn’t lacking new music and content to enjoy: on the heels of the premiere of a new docuseries on Disney+, Jimin has shared a solo song titled “Closer Than This.” Stream it below.
More in the vein of sweet tracks like “Friends” or “Promise” than the high stakes drama of his 2023 solo album, “Closer Than This” is a love letter to the fans and promise of a reunion. “Letting go of your hand for a moment/ But it’s only a small comma in our story/ Just call my name out loud until the days tinge purple once again,” he sings in Korean. His distinct vocal range is on full display here over light, playful guitar and an earworm of a hook.

It’s that time of year again, folks. The 2024 Grammy nominations have been announced, and for fellow K-pop fans, it’s another season of “disappointed, but not surprised.” This year’s nominations failed to nod to any artists out of Seoul, despite the diversity of genre, sound, and style displayed in the submissions.
Historically, BTS paved the way and set the precedent as the first and only K-pop act to secure a nomination, beginning at the 2021 ceremony with a nomination for “Dynamite.” The following year, “Butter” earned a nod in the same category (Best Pop Duo/Group Performance), alongside their collaboration with Coldplay, “My Universe,” and a Best Music Video nomination for “Yet to Come.”
This year, perhaps encouraged by the fact that BTS were able to start making waves in the Grammys world, many K-pop acts followed suit in submissions: aespa, Seventeen, Stray Kids, Tomorrow X Together, Twice, Nct,...

Jimin's solo era kicked off in full force in March with his debut album, "Face." The album produced two hit singles - "Set Me Free Pt. 2" and "Like Crazy," which hit No. 30 and No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 respectively - and a slate of music performances that were instantly unforgettable to fans.
Jimin kept much of his solo production process and plans close to his chest leading up to Feb. 21, when he first announced his official plans for "Face" in a Weverse statement, but he did give insight into what it was like recording an album on his own for the first time in a January 2022 interview with W Korea.

The devoted culture warriors dedicated to taking Jason Aldean’s “Try That in a Small Town” to the top of the charts appear to have already grown bored of the song as it plummeted from Number One to Number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this week.
Last week, the song topped the Hot 100, several months after its initial release in April, and following the arrival of a controversial music video that critics — from the country music world to academia — said promoted white nationalism and painted protests against racial injustice as lawless and violent.

Seoul, July 25 (Ians) K-pop superband BTS member Jungkook’s new single ‘Seven’ featuring Latto (formerly known as Mulatto) has debuted at No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart.
It marks the 25-year-old’s first time to rule the chart as a soloist.
He is the second BTS member with a Hot 100 leader following his groupmate Jimin, who reigned the chart after his song ‘Like Crazy’ launched at No.1 back in April, reports aceshowbiz.com.
Jungkook’s previous high on the Billboard Hot 100 was when Charlie Puth’s ‘Left and Right’ featuring him hit No. 22 in July 2022. His own song ‘Stay Alive’ also spent a week on the list No. 95 in February last year.

On Tuesday, Billboard published a piece speculating on why hip-hop hasn’t had a Number One album or single within the first half of 2023. The report set off a flurry of chatter from industry observers and rap fans drawing their own conclusions as to what the answer might be. Is the dearth of rap hits this year a matter of market share, artist deaths, incarceration, or stagnant charts?
Most people who think the occurrence is no big deal are chalking it up to a lack of releases by major rap stars.

Jimin's secret song off his debut solo album, "Face," isn't so secret anymore. In celebration of BTS's 10th anniversary Festa, Jimin filmed a live performance of his track "Letter," which only appeared on the physical edition of his hit album. While you can still only listen to the fully-produced version of the song on Jimin's physical album (so you're out of luck if you decided to pass on purchasing it), the acoustic, live performance released on June 7 is beyond beautiful, and a gift to ARMYs.
Back in March, when "Letter" was initially released, fans were surprised when they recognized Jimin's BTS bandmate Jungkook's unmistakable vocals on the track, adding trills and adlibs throughout the final minute of the song. Although Jungkook did not participate in the live performance of "Letter" for Festa, his backing vocals can be heard (albeit more softly) in the background at the end of the video.

I’m afraid that everything will disappear
Just trust me)
She’s saying
Baby, come and follow me
There’s not a bad thing here tonight
Save your reasons all for later
Stay with me a little while
Watch me go
Now, I sink down, all alone away
Where am I?
A dark haze clouding up my eyes
I can hear the voices listening
Don’t know who they are
Trying to take the pressure off
Been reaching for the stars
Tell me, will I find myself again?
When I go too far?
Yeah, I know
You know, I know (Ooh)
I’d rather be
Lost in the lights, lost in the lights
I’m outta my mind
Can you help me numb the pain?

There's no end to how much musical history BTS has made as a group. They're the first and only Korean artists to notch six No. 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, and they're the only Korean artists to have been nominated for five Grammys, to name just a few of their major accomplishments. Now, as the group takes a temporary hiatus to serve in the Korean military and focus on their solo projects, it seems they'll start hitting even more milestones as soloists. Case in point: Jimin released his first solo album, "Face," along with the album's lead single, "Like Crazy," on March 24, and a little over week later, he's now a Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping soloist.
On April 3, Billboard reported that "Like Crazy" debuted at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, making Jimin the first and only Korean soloist to score a No. 1 hit on the chart.

Jimin can’t escape solitude in the music video for his latest single “Like Crazy,” which appears on his newly released debut solo album Face. Before Jimin was sure he could release a solo debut album, his fellow BTS members believed in him first.
It was last spring, and the group was in Las Vegas, carrying out the last shows on their “Permission to Dance on Stage” stadium tour. In between nights, he opened up to his brother-like band members over drinks and told them about the self-doubt he’d been experiencing during the pandemic. That’s when he received the encouragement he needed from the group, who will celebrate their 10-year anniversary this summer,...
