Sonequa Martin-Green Boards CBS’ ‘Boston Blue’
Image
CBS has found the second star for its upcoming drama Boston Blue.

Sonequa Martin-Green will play a lead role in the Blue Bloods spinoff opposite Donnie Wahlberg, who is reprising his role as Danny Reagan from the long-running series that ended in December 2024. Martin-Green (Star Trek: Discovery) will play Lena Silver, a Boston police detective who becomes Danny’s partner as he moves to a new city. Like Danny, Lena is the eldest child in a prominent law enforcement family.

CBS placed a straight-to-series order for Boston Blue in February, calling it a “universe extension” of Blue Bloods. While it’s set in the same world as Blue Bloods, it has a new creative team: Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis (The Blacklist, Alert: Missing Persons Unit) will serve as showrunners and executive produce with Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed of Jerry Bruckheimer Television and Wahlberg. (Bruckheimer’s company wasn’t involved in the original series.

Is James Spader a Democrat? His Greatest Ever Role He Called ‘A Destructive Force’ Says It All
Image
Actor James Spader has played some of the most iconic roles on television in the past two decades. He had a lengthy run on The Blacklist, which only concluded in 2023 after ten seasons. In the meantime, Spader continues to be as reclusive and private in his personal life as he has for most of his career in Hollywood.

As a result, Spader’s political inclinations are unclear since the actor hasn’t openly talked about them. However, one of Spader’s most famous roles, which turned him into a household name, might have leaned towards the Democratic policies. As a result, the character remains one of Spader’s most fascinating roles, and here is what he had to say about it.

HBO's 'Lanterns' Actor Reveals Exciting Production Update for Dcu Show
Image
HBO's long-awaited Green Lantern series is currently in production, and it seems filming is moving forward smoothly without any major hiccups. Lanterns, which stars Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler, is the first live-action series set in James Gunn's rebooted DC Universe, which debuts on the big screen this summer with Superman. The True Detective-inspired show follows two Green Lanterns investigating a murder mystery in America's heartland, which could have major repercussions for the rest of the Dcu.

During an interview with Forbes, Jason Ritter, who plays Billy Macon in Lanterns, revealed the current production status for the upcoming HBO series. He confirmed that Lanterns was halfway through filming its first season, with four episodes completed thus far. Additionally, he reveals that it is a "really well-written, really fun show," the latter of which is in contrast to how the grounded sci-fi drama has been described thus far. Ritter's...

‘Saturday Night Live’ Has Pocketed More Than $100 Million from New York Taxpayers
Image
Manhattanites pay good money for that “Live from New York!” shout-out every weekend on Saturday Night Live. According to The New York Times, the show has received $111 million in tax incentives since 2017.

That’s a Staten Island ferry full of cash, though SNL isn’t the biggest beneficiary. The Blacklist, Blue Bloods, Billions, Bull and Madam Secretary also received nine figures worth of incentives, with The Blacklist leading the way at $170 million total over that same span of years.

But SNL’s total is nothing to sneeze at. New York residents are practically producers at this point, with each of the state’s households contributing a couple of bucks a year to defray the cost of Kenan Thompson’s wigs.

Why all the cash for SNL and other productions?

In theory, when films and TV shows are created in any state, jobs are created that offset incentive costs. New York — again,...

Megan Boone’s Blacklist Exit Explained: What Led Liz Keen To Leave Before The Series Finale?
Image
Megan Boone Departs The Blacklist Role(Photo Credit –Facebook)

When Megan Boone vanished from The Blacklist after eight seasons of dodging bullets, chasing secrets, and side-eyeing James Spader’s Reddington, fans were left asking, ‘Wait, Liz Keen just left?’ Boone had been the heart of the FBI drama since day one, unraveling conspiracy webs and navigating her own twisty past with equally puzzled expressions. So her sudden exit just before the series’ final chapters felt like Sherlock Holmes skipping the final case. But while fans may have cooked up wild theories about betrayal or behind-the-scenes drama, the truth behind her departure is far more grounded—and surprisingly chill. Yes, this wasn’t a Reddington-level conspiracy. Sometimes, even the profiler needs to profile a new chapter in life. So what really happened to Liz Keen? Let’s dig into Boone’s big goodbye.

“He’s Got a Lot to Prove”: 'Ransom Canyon's Yancy Actor Teases What Could Happen in Season 2
Image
As Season 1 of Ransom Canyon wrapped, fans of the new Netflix series were left with some loose threads that a new season would need to tie up. One of the characters that has the most to deal with is Yancy Grey (Jack Schumacher), who presents himself as one kind of person throughout the episodes, only to reveal that he had a big secret that he conveniently forgot to tell his new lover, Ellie (Marianly Tejada). In a recent interview, Schumacher talked about his character's path in a potential Season 2.

During the interview with Swoon, Schumacher commented on the fact that we did know that Yancy is a con artist, so lying is "just second nature" to him. At the same time, the actor mentioned that he does believe that Yancy is trying to start from scratch and be a new person, but apparently, old habits die hard. If the series comes back for more episodes,...

“I’m Certainly In The Dog House”: ‘Ransom Canyon’ Star Comments On That Major Yancy Twist
Image
As much as we instantly think about Yellowstone when we take a look at the fresh neo-western series Ransom Canyon, we can't deny that the show managed to find its own rhythm and identity in Season 1. For one, the Netflix series has a much less cynical approach to love — even though its romantic storylines have their share of twists. In a new interview, series star Jack Schumacher (Top Gun: Maverick), who plays cowboy Yancy Grey, talked about his character's secret, which is revealed by the end of the season.

The storyline of Yancy in Ransom Canyon is pretty compelling because he wasn't exactly looking for the love of his life. Initially, he comes to Texas Hill Country wanting to make money fast and then move on to the next town. He just didn't count on meeting Ellie Estevez (Marianly Tejada) and falling head over heels for her. It all looks...

Nearly 40 Years Have Passed Since James Spader’s Only Cult-Hit Movie With Young Sheldon’s Annie Potts
Image
James Spader’s career has been defined by his television career with hits like Boston Legal and The Blacklist under his belt. As a result, his film career has mostly been forgotten, except for perhaps his only cult-hit movie from the 1980s, which also features Young Sheldon actress Annie Potts.

Despite having aged slightly poorly, the film in question also launched several other actors to superstardom. As a result, it sits as a bit of an anomaly in his career, especially since Spader himself does not speak about the movie during his already limited public appearances. Here is everything you need to know about Spader’s cult classic movie that is almost 40 years old.

Netflix’s New Romantic ‘Yellowstone’ Dupe Debuts Among Most-Watched Shows on the Platform
Image
The success of Yellowstone is undeniable — the Paramount+ series repeatedly brings in big viewing numbers, and it's no wonder that other platforms are trying to replicate the format. Netflix's latest attempt at the neo-western genre is Ransom Canyon. For a new and unknown series, the title resonated pretty well with Netflix subscribers, and with just one week it shot up all the way to #2 among the most-watched shows on the platform — it only failed to outperform the new season of Black Mirror.

Ransom Canyon is set in Texas and chronicles the feud between three families that own ranches and are fighting to control the land. Yes, it's a pretty similar situation to what the Duttons deal with in Yellowstone, but the story managed to rope viewers in: the series accumulated 7.2 million views in less than seven days, which is more than Adolescence did this week (6M) and more than...

The Pitt’s Noah Wyle has shared some insight into how the show has influenced real doctors and practitioners. The series has earned a nearly flawless rating of 97% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and although general audiences reviewed the show at only a 78% score, that hasn’t stopped it from consistently dominating Max streaming charts. Viewers have praised the show’s realism and its willingness to show the hardest parts of working in the ER, and during a recent interview with CNN, Wyle spoke about how real-world healthcare workers have responded to the series, calling it “triggering” for some:

Classic Avengers character returning to the MCU sooner than you think
Image
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is very unique when it comes to its portrayal of comic book characters. On the one hand, it's capable of creating three-dimensional heroes that make mistakes, don't always keep their cool, are hunted by the demons of their past, and yet they manage to set an example to everybody else by saving the day countless times. On the other hand, they can also craft a one-dimensional villain with no outstanding motivations other than the caricaturesque "I want to rule the world" trope.

Granted, there are some big exceptions in the form of Kingpin, Thanos, Killmonger, The Vulture, and a few others. But more often than not, we remember an MCU project because of the hero and not its antagonistic counterpart.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is a perfect example since it was widely criticized for its portrayal of the murderous robot. Granted, it was always going to...

Iron Man Star Faran Tahir Talks Vision Return, Working With James Spader, And 2008 Movie's Legacy (Exclusive)
Image
WandaVision concluded with the original Vision, rebuilt by S.W.O.R.D. to do as they command, attempting to kill Wanda Maximoff and his Hex double. The latter seemingly restored his doppelganger's memories during their clash, prompting the presumably emotionless "White Vision" to fly away to parts unknown.

Marvel Studios and Marvel Television will continue that story in Disney+'s upcoming Vision series, and there's a great deal of intrigue surrounding the project.

We know that James Spader will return as Ultron, while it's been widely reported that the Disney+ series will adapt elements of West Coast Avengers and Tom King's Vision series. There have even been rumblings that we'll see James D'Arcy and Kerry Condon play human versions of Edwin Jarvis and F.R.I.D.A.Y.

By far one of the most intriguing additions to the cast is Iron Man star Faran Tahir. He starred...

This 12-Year-Old Crime Series With 91% on Rotten Tomatoes Is Perfect for White Collar Fans
Image
White Collar is one of the most popular crime dramas of the mid-2000s. With a reboot now on the way, it may be time to consider another series that could satisfy waiting fans. The Blacklistfirst aired on NBC in 2013, and it ran for 10 seasons before coming to an end in 2023.

This series focuses on longtime criminal Raymond “Red” Reddington (played by James Spader), who finally decides to work with a specific FBI agent in order to catch other criminals on a “blacklist.” Even after its conclusion, the show still has strong reviews from both critics and audiences, and it features plenty of unanswered questions that have kept fans pondering.

The Blacklist Showcases Multidimensional Characters

In part thanks to its decade-long television run, The Blacklist successfully fleshes out a variety of characters. While there are arguably two characters – Red and Liz – who are more vital to the storyline, the series...

'The Blacklist': Why Did Megan Boone's Elizabeth Leave the Show?
Image
It’s no surprise that when The Blacklist premiered on NBC in 2013, it was a massive hit. The first reason was that James Spader was at the helm as career criminal Raymond “Red” Reddington, known as the Concierge of Crime. The story was also very intriguing. After running from authorities for decades and being at the top of the Most Wanted list, Reddington decides to willingly turn himself in. He offers his services to help the FBI take down the most awful criminals, and he delivers. But there’s an ulterior motive. They have to let him do his thing, and in taking down these thieves, criminals, and terrorists, they are inadvertently helping build Reddington’s own criminal enterprise in the process.

At the heart of the story was also Reddington’s interest in Elizabeth “Liz” Keen, a young agent to whom he had some type of prior relationship, but...

Ami Canaan Mann on Directing Natalie Dormer as a Heroic Real-Life Doctor in ‘Audrey’s Children’ and What She Learned Watching Her Dad Direct ‘Heat’
Image
“Audrey’s Children” — in theaters Friday via Blue Harbor Entertainment — tells the true story of pediatric oncologist Dr. Audrey Evans (Natalie Dormer), who upended medicine with a new treatment of Neuroblastoma, an often-deadly childhood nerve cancer, all while standing up for herself in her field and caring for her young patients. With a script from Julia Fisher Farbman, the film is directed by Ami Canaan Mann, whose storytelling extends to many different genres in both features and television. Mann opens up about the documentary that influenced her style on “Audrey’s Children,” the role that inspired her to work with Dormer and what she learned working on the set of “Heat” with her father, Michael Mann.

What inspired you to direct this film?

I was sent the script, and there’s a scene where the main character, Dr. Audrey Evans, is talking to one of her patients, a child at the hospital,...

Blue Bloods Offshoot Boston Blue Set for Fall Premiere — Watch ‘Promo’
Image
Fans of CBS’ cancelled Blue Bloods will only have to wait another six months or so to get their next fix of Danny Reagan.

Franchise vet Donnie Wahlberg — who of course played Danny for all of Blue Bloods‘ 14-season run — shared on Instagram a first “promo” for Boston Blue. (I use air quotes because it uses fleeting, archival Blue Bloods clips.) Both the video and Wahlberg’s caption confirm a fall (versus midseason/early 2026) premiere for the new, Beantown adventures of Danny Reagan.

HBO's Green Lantern Series Reportedly Adds 'Matlock' Star Jason Ritter
Image
HBO's Green Lanternseries has added another face, this time from a new television drama that has been making waves in the ratings scene. Set in the DC Universe, Lanterns follows Aaron Pierrer and Kyle Chandler as John Stewart and Hal Jordan, respectively, as they investigate a murder in the American heartland. If a new report is to be trusted, then one of the cast members from the hit CBS remake Matlock is set to join the first live-action series from the Dcu.

According to The InSneider, Jason Ritter has joined Lanterns and will play the husband of Kelly Macdonald's character, Sheriff Kerry, who was previously described as "a no-nonsense woman deeply devoted to her family and close-knit town." It's unclear how significant Ritter's role will be, but there is a chance there is more than meets the eye as the Green Lantern duo looks to solve an alien conspiracy.

SXSW 2025 Review: Fucktoys, A Filth-filled Odyssey Though A Punk Rock Wonderland

A sometime sex worker longs for love in director/writer/star Annapurna Sriram’s chaotic debut feature film, Fucktoys. We meet AP (Sriram) mid-tarot reading, sitting in the middle of a swamp, listening to the wisdom of a psychic played by iconic rapper, Big Freedia. Desperate to make a positive turn in her life, AP begs for a solution to her overall ills, to which the tarot woman immediately shoots back: it’s gonna be $1,000 and she’s going to have to slit the throat of a lamb. In possession of neither a lamb, nor $1,000, AP now has a quest, and she will not be denied. Sriram may be familiar to viewers from her appearances in Billions or The Blacklist, but she’s mostly flown under the radar working...

Peter Craig on Choosing 'Dope Thief' Over 'The Batman 2'
Image
Peter Craig — that's one of those people you may not recognize by name, but you'd absolutely recognize by their work. Especially for fans of some of the biggest movies to hit Hollywood in recent years. Craig either wrote the script or helped develop the story for Gladiator II, The Town, Top Gun: Maverick, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, and Bad Boys for Life. And then there's The Batman, which he co-wrote with Matt Reeves. Fans of the caped crusader are stoked for The Batman II, to put it mildly, and so is Craig. However, despite what some internet sources might say, Craig moved on from the DC franchise in order to create his own series, Dope Thief, which hits Apple TV+ this week.

"I'm listed as working on [The Batman II] when I'm not. That's Matt's thing," Craig told MovieWeb in a recent interview. "I was doing [Dope Thief], and so that might be an IMDb...

‘F*cktoys’ Review: A Sex Worker Tries to Break a Mystical Curse in Annapurna Sriram’s Messy and Exciting Genre Mash-Up
Image
With a title like “Fucktoys,” Annapurna Sriram’s directorial debut boldly announces its wild intentions. A provocative name like that has been known to backfire, especially as it can over-inflate one’s expectations for the gonzo filmmaking they’re about to witness. But Sriram’s movie — a grotesque odyssey through a place called Trashtown, which has shades of New Orleans and a hint of Los Angeles — is at least impressively strange. It’s the kind of project that, despite some flaws, allows Sriram to stake her claim as a filmmaker to watch, with a distinctive voice that mashes up rockabilly aesthetics with Tarot mysticism and an incredible dig at James Franco. This is the kind of thing you want to see at a festival like SXSW: Messy, but wholly original in its genre mashup.

As an actress, Sriram appeared on the likes of “Billions” and “The Blacklist,” shows that are tonally miles apart from “Fucktoys.
