  • We've seen a Bad Santa and a Bad Teacher. Now we have "Bad Judge", perhaps an ill-titled show that is really funny. It seems many viewers rejected this show after viewing the first episode--a common mistake. Rebecca Wright is much more than the bed-hopping, careless woman many saw in the pilot.

As we discover, there is something she desires more than pleasure--it's justice, even at the cost of bending the rules (of law, society or order). She not only flaunts the rules of propriety; she flaunts the common, unspoken rules of society, like "go along with the crowd" and "don't rock the boat". That makes her a rebel, but she has a cause.

She also has a remarkable track record--in law school, as an attorney, and (in the eyes of her managing judge) on the bench.

She also happens to be damn funny and quite attractive. This is "New Girl" but with a more traditional comic style, featuring punch lines more that odd behavior. From what I have read, this show is being cancelled, but I am a fan of Kate Walsh now.

How can so many people watch Judge Judy--a totally unfunny woman with very little civility in her nature--when there's a Judge Wright who is hilarious, compassionate and surrounded by other actors who are funny in their own wrights?
  • This new NBC comedy drama "Bad Judge" is a little outrageous and far out for the way it shows the life of a professional woman, as really most judges probably don't live like this. Anyway it has Kate Walsh as Rebecca Wright a hard partying, hard living, outspoken Los Angeles, California judge who marches to the beat of her own drum. The series focus is on how Rebecca balances her life and cases all within the criminal court justice system. And plus the show does showcase the hard love life of Rebecca's as it's sex charged with sleeping around and one night stands plus it's a treat to see the Kate Walsh character of Rebecca wearing plenty and many sexy colored bras! Overall a series that doesn't take itself to serious, anyway it's one to watch for outrageous fun and it's a plus to see the sexy Kate Walsh.
  • Judge Rebecca Wright (Kate Walsh) is a sexually-promiscuous hard-partying highly-inappropriate drunken single woman. She is not bound by the rules to the dismay of her superior Judge Hernandez (Miguel Sandoval). She has an on-and-off hookup with medical expert Dr. Gary Boyd (Ryan Hansen). Her best friend is her bailiff Tedward Mulray (Tone Bell). Tom Barlow (John Ducey) is the stuck up prosecutor.

I like Kate Walsh especially in this brash character. I would have liked it more if she is even more inappropriate. The rest seems to be stuck on together in a random sitcom bull session. The first episode has a kid that seems so important but then they abandoned him. This being a network show. She has to have a heart of gold. This just makes this feel like an edgy show that got networktized. It feels old and tired before it even gets started.
  • Now that Bad teacher is canceled you can watch Bad Judge instead!

It's a show about a sexually liberal woman who happens to be a ...judge! She has sex in her office (and everywhere else), she uses the court's bailiff to dispose her used pregnancy test, and...well..you can imagine the rest.

The premise is impossible, so it's all about how funny it actually is.

Will Ferrel serves as an executive producer so you can understand the type of jokes you get with this. After you get pass the "she is a judge" part there ain't so many jokes to have fun with. With these professional comedians it feels more like a sketch of "Funny or die" or something.

Of course the good (erase that) bad judge has also a big heart. Like bad teacher (the series) if you ever were watching the show. She cares about the children of the people who gets behind bars.

Overall: Not bad bad. But I think the premise will worn out pretty quick.

    Warning: Spoilers
Sad to learn that this show is not being renewed by NBC. I enjoy Kate Walsh into this comedic role as the nowhere-near-typical judge, Rebecca Wright. If you like Mindy Kalind or the comedy, "The Mindy Show", you will like this one as well. I also enjoy the character, Tedward, the bailiff and judge Wright's "work husband" played by Tone Bell. Would I call it hilarious? No. But, funny and witty and worth it? Definitely! For some, Judge Wright might seem over the top with her party- girl attire, playfulness and non-conformity. But, she is so dumbed down or flawed that she is unbelievable at all. Actually, she's refreshing. A break from the mold that I would have loved to me more of, especially in the the dynamics with her able-to-keep-up-with-her although subordinate co-worker, Tedward.
  • If this series was about a male judge who behaved in the exact same crass manner as the lead does, it would be attacked and chased off the air for promoting offensive and vulgar behavior. However, since there's a twist here (hint: it's a female Animal House type lead) some think it's the cat's pajamas.

What has the world come to? If watching a painfully unfunny disaster of a comedy that appears to have been written by 18 year old frat boys hell bent on making the lead as unpleasant, vulgar, and offensive as possible is your idea of entertainment, then by all means watch this utter rubbish.

Everyone responsible for bringing this garbage to the airwaves should be ashamed of themselves.
  • I knew about this series when it was airing on TV during the 2014/2015 season but for some reason I never got around to watching any of it.

The reason I got interested in this show was for Kate Walsh. I had seen her in Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice but it was hearing her interviews and even on the Nerdist podcast and hearing how funny she was that got me interested in watching this.

I then heard this show got cancelled and then I just let it slide in lieu of the long list of things I want to watch but I just saw the name again recently and decide to give it ago.

    Now I'm just pis*ed!

    This show is bloody awesome!

The laughs were definitely there, from Kate Walsh and the rest of the equally awesome cast (Tone Bell, John Ducey, Ryan Hansen, Miguel Sandoval and Amy Rhodes). The cast would probably have to be one of the things I liked most about this show; how much chemistry they had and how they all worked well together and in different duos and groups throughout the series.

As much as I liked it… it probably wouldn't be something I go back and watch again but I most definitely would have watched a second season!

It's well written, it's funny, there's character growth (and not so much that it's a different character by the end) and it's just something laidback and enjoyable to watch.

CHAPPY THINKS that the only bad thing about this show was this it was cancelled!
  • If you can believe that this low class vulgar woman attended law school and is an elected official....then, I guess you'll believe anything. Judges are elected officials after serving many years in law..no one would elect this piece of trash. And if mistakenly elected, would certainly be recalled.

It's supposed to be funny but isn't. It's actually offensive. This judge makes a mockery of law and justice, has a potty mouth, and sleeps with anything anywhere. The man cast as a psychiatrist in the show is much too young to be a psychiatrist..it takes many years in school..and he doesn't suit the role.

The story lines are unbelievable. She drives around in an old heap, visiting kids of people that she put away ..kind of a surrogate mother. And threatens other youths at the school. A real attorney could be disbarred for the behavior this judge participates in.
  • They should stop producing these shows for the US TV and air it in Europe or somewhere else the ratings would be totally different.

I don't know what it is these days but a lot of great shows get canceled maybe Americans don't get sarcasm or black humor as Europeans do , or simply don't like it, and all those great shows get these ratings and got canceled it makes me just sad because those are great shows and are fun to watch.

So maybe try produce some of these shows just for the European market i would bet on it the ratings would be higher than in the us.

So i wish this show to come back.
  • I like Kate Walsh as an actress, but I don't like her in Bad Judge. She is a great actress but I feel that Bad Judge is a step back. The show isn't funny and has very weak story lines.

I don't understand what the writers are trying to do with the main character. She is a sexy judge and a little rebellious at times but that's it there isn't much else.

It's a shame I had high hopes for this show because of Kate Walsh. I have watched 3 episodes to give the series a chance but it's not getting any better for me so I am not going to waste anymore time on it.
  • This show is entirely underrated. It's a pretty original story line that contains good humor, it doesn't talk down to the viewer and or play on the same torn up romantic comedy like the new show A to Z. It baffles me that Bad Judge is rated lower than A to Z. I probably wouldn't entirely give it a 9/10, but as the rating is an average, it needs higher ratings, because it better not get canceled after one season. It also has a spectacular underlying theme that the justice system is flawed. It can be very difficult to provide help, (although an entirely different conversation.) It is a nice concept to see a caped (or robed) crusader who doesn't have her life together but doesn't mess around when it comes to work. Who has her own flaws but her secret selflessness and appreciation for the positive points of the law constantly overshadow her fun loving ways.
  • My interest in this show can best be illustrated by an inverse ln (log) graph. With each passing episode the main character became less and less appealing until by the 5th episode I stopped watching because it seems like a one trick pony where the entire focus is on the main character and how cool she is while not having her sh*t together....but it comes across more like one of those aunts at family get-together who try so hard to impress upon much younger generations of the family that she's still cool, young and somehow connected on those levels. She's so wild and unorthodox.... OH ...she's just like we want to be when we grow up....or wanted to be when we where growing up. I can just imagine Seth McFarlane from Family Guy taking this show apart in righteous fashion....now THAT...I would watch! I found it wholly unsurprising that this show was canceled.
  • Half way through the pilot episode, my husband and I turned to each other with our months gaping open. Is this NBC's answer to all of ABC's shows about people behaving badly? There wasn't a single unpredictable line or slapstick physical comedy move in the whole show. Beyond pathetic. Simply awful. I'm not wasting any more of my time on this worthless piece of TVS crap. And to the reviewer who found this show heartwarming...well, I'm really at a loss for words.

While (as another reviewer pointed out) California judges are elected, most of them are appointed when there is a vacancy and face only a re-election where they are rarely opposed.

But Kate Walsh's character goes WAY over the line. Putting a fire ax into a tire would have been a criminal act -- the sort of thing that gets a judge up before the review board, probably dismissed if not disbarred as well.

The worst part is Kate Walsh has generally played beautiful, classy women and this character is a tramp.

The show has a judge routinely getting drunk (borderline alcoholic), breaking laws and abusing authority.

If you can suspend disbelief, you can enjoy it.
  • I happened to meet this one today afternoon, and I am so happy to finally watch a series that is this funny :) They could pick the right actors for the characters, stories are easy but not boring at least - not a drama, so this is not the most important point, but what I enjoy the most is the good jokes in every situation :) I told my friend to watch the first episode, and she enjoyed just as much as I did, we really laughed a lot.

I cannot remember which series was the last one that made me laugh this hard, but for now I will follow this one and hope that it will not be cancelled.

Kate and Tone are absolutely on the top with their characters :)
  • watched this just based on Kate Walsh starring. from the starting seconds I was hooked, she was great. when I saw the Dr take the stand all I could think was Dick from "Veronica Mars" and it was clear they were involved.

It was funny, not tearing up funny but still good. Its very clear a=our leading lady has a big heart, rushing off to help a young boy who's parents she sent down.

Apparently Will Farrell is some kind of creator or producer, I hate him, to me nothing he does is ever funny, remotely. Yet this show reminds me of him or would even make me think he was involved. I hope this great new show gets a chance to bloom, so many good shows get cancelled while absolute rubbish is allowed multiple seasons. Give this show a chance, its definitely a good one.
  • People of Earth, I am Lrrr.

If this show were to ever be taken off air, it would be an outrage.

I would demand to know what happened to the perky judge and her compellingly short garments.

We would raise your planet's temperature by 1 million degrees, a day. For 5 days! Unless the show was put back on the air.

If the bad judge wishes to be taken seriously, why does she not simply tear her rival heads off?

I am reasonably satisfied with the events I have seen, overall I would rate it a C+. Okay, not great.
  • This show was fun to look forward to every week until it got canceled :( The characters had good chemistry and were very lovable and hilarious. Very good casting! I am very disappointed that it got canceled, I really do hope another network picks it up because I feel that NBC didn't really give it that much of a chance they just cancelled it after 5 episodes, really? This show is too good to be cancelled so soon. Every episode has made me laugh and not many comedy shows can do that. Kate Walsh is an amazing actress, I didn't think she could pull off this role but she did an amazing job! I can just imagine another network picking this up and having this show become extremely popular and NBC regretting their terrible decision to cancel it after barely giving it a chance.
