Silo season 2 comes to an end in an explosive, deliciously frustrating way. Here’s our spoiler-free review of Silo season 2 episode 10.
It’s hard to pull off a good finale these days. The TV landscape is full of excellent series and it’s hard to stand out and even harder to convince your audience to hang on for a couple of years and wait for another season.
Silo season 2 has had a lot of ups and downs. There have been some incredible individual episodes – episode 4 in particular – but the series has also struggled in finding a balance between the different storylines. With two more seasons on the way, the finale has to prove that showrunner Graham Yost and his cast and crew know what they’re doing and this is all leading to something worthy of our patience.
In all honesty, I was nervous sitting down to watch episode 10. Sure,...

The nominations announcement of the PGA Awards 2025 made for a tough morning for the “Nickel Boys” and “Sing Sing” Oscar campaigns in particular.
Because the Producers Guild of America uses the same system as the Academy to determine its nominees for Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures — a preferential ballot with 10 slots— it is seen overall as the most accurate precursor for Best Picture. In fact, its nominees completely mirrored what the Best Picture nominees were in 2024.
Have things really changed that much between now and December, when the winners of the AFI Awards were announced? In recent years that awards body has been almost as accurate at predicting the final 10 Best Picture nominees, often only leaving out the international titles. For example, the American Film Institute had “May December” and “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” last year instead of eventual nominees “Anatomy of a Fall” and “The Zone of Interest,...

The Producers Guild of America, one of the most reliable predictors of success in the Oscars’ Best Picture category, has nominated Oscar favorites “Anora,” “The Brutalist,” “A Complete Unknown,” “Conclave,” “Emilia Perez” and “Wicked” for its top feature film award, the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures.
Other nominees in the category are “Dune: Part Two,” “A Real Pain,” “September 5” and “The Substance.”
While last year’s PGA nominations included a record three films directed by women and three predominantly not in English,”The Substance” was this year’s only female-directed nominee and “Emilia Perez” its only non-English one.
The nominations include most of the top contenders for the Oscar for Best Picture, with the indies “Nickel Boys” and “Sing Sing” being the highest-profile films that were left out. “September 5,” the European-made film about the terrorist attacks at the Munich Olympics in 1972, is the biggest...

The Producers Guild of America (PGA) unveiled its 2025 Awards nominees on Thursday, honoring an eclectic slate of films poised to dominate this year’s Oscar race.
Among the 10 nominees for the coveted Darryl F. Zanuck Award for outstanding producer of theatrical motion pictures are Sean Baker’s poignant dramedy “Anora,” Brady Corbet’s meticulously crafted historical epic “The Brutalist,” Edward Berger’s religious thriller “Conclave,” Jacques Audiard’s genre-bending musical “Emilia Pérez” and Jon M. Chu’s glittering adaptation of “Wicked.”
Perhaps the most unexpected entry in this year’s list is Tim Fehlbaum’s indie thriller “September 5.” The high-stakes dystopian drama, acquired by Paramount Pictures after generating buzz at Venice and Telluride, edged out high-profile contenders like RaMell Ross’ “Nickel Boys” and Greg Kwedar’s prison drama “Sing Sing.” The nod for “September 5” marks a significant moment for the underdog film, which now finds itself in the best picture conversation.

The photographic excellence of The Brutalist, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Maria, Dune: Part Two, Nosferatu, and Wicked were cited in the marquee Theatrical Feature Film category as the American Society of Cinematographers announced nominees Thursday morning for the 39th Annual ASC Awards. The ASC Awards span features, documentaries, television, and music videos among its seven categories, with these nominations delayed a week due to the Los Angeles wildfire crisis.
This feature lineup is packed with awards season favorites, including cinematographers Lol Crawley for The Brutalist, Greig Fraser for Dune: Part Two, and Jarin Blaschke for Nosferatu. Last year’s ASC feature winner, Hoyte van Hoytema for Oppenheimer, went on to win the Academy Award. The ASC winner has claimed that year’s Oscar 18 times in 38 years, or a smidgen less than half the time.

After a delay due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles, the American Society of Cinematographers (ASC) announced the nominees for its 2025 Outstanding Achievement Awards, spanning feature films, documentaries, television, and music videos. “Dune: Part 2” continues to be a craft favorite with a nomination for Greig Fraser, but winter films made their mark, with nominations for “Nosferatu” and “A Complete Unknown,” among others. After a couple of postponements in consideration of the ongoing wildfires in California, the Writers Guild of America announced on Wednesday the nominations for the 2025 WGA Awards honoring film, TV, and several other mediums.
As always, the guild’s film nominations come with the caveat that any script not written by a guild member or under a WGA collective bargaining agreement was deemed ineligible, so major screenplay Oscar contenders like “The Brutalist” and “The Substance” were left out. What was nominated in their stead is the real indicator of some titles that are still not out of the awards race just yet.
The primary example on the Original Screenplay side is “Challengers,” which was just shut out of the BAFTAs the same day the WGA Awards nominations arrived. While the film’s best shot at an Oscar nomination is still for Best Original Score, “Challengers” screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes has been...

Anora, A Complete Unknown, Challengers, Hit Man, and Wicked are among the 2025 Writers Guild of America Awards nominees.

The Writers Guild of America (WGA) has unveiled its nominees for the 2025 WGA Awards, highlighting a mix of familiar Oscar frontrunners, unexpected entries, and the creative reshuffling prompted by ineligible contenders.
Sean Baker’s critically acclaimed “Anora” is leading the original screenplay list, which many consider the Oscar frontrunner in this category. Another strong contender is Jesse Eisenberg’s “A Real Pain,” a personal, semi-autobiographical drama that has been a critical favorite this season.
The inclusion of Justin Kuritzkes’ “Challengers” — a romantic sports drama starring Zendaya — is significant. After its high-profile shutout at the BAFTA Awards, this nomination could rejuvenate its awards season momentum. Adding variety to the category is Alex Garland’s bold post-apocalyptic thriller, “Civil War,” and Megan Park’s sweet yet irreverent comedy, “My Old Ass.” Park, who won praise for her directorial debut “The Fallout,” is also a DGA nominee for first-time director.

“Anora,” “A Real Pain,” “A Complete Unknown,” “Wicked” and “Nickel Boys” are among the films that have been nominated by the Writers Guild of America in the feature film category, the WGA West and WGA East announced on Wednesday.
In the Original Screenplay category, “Anora” and “A Real Pain” were nominated alongside “Challengers,” “Civil War” and “My Old Ass.” In Adapted Screenplay, “A Complete Unknown,” “Nickel Boys” and “Wicked” will be up against “Dune: Part Two” and “Hit Man.”

As devastating wildfires continue to rage through Los Angeles, the Critics Choice Awards has delayed its 30th annual event for the second time. Although no exact date has been set, organizers are now anticipating February for the rescheduled event.
The awards show, originally planned for January 12 at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica but later rescheduled for January 26, joins other entertainment events impacted by the ongoing fire emergency.
The fires have seriously affected the area, resulting in 24 deaths and 23 unaccounted-for people. The Palisades Fire is the biggest fire, having burned 23,000 acres and is mostly uncontrolled, with only 18% contained. The Eaton Fire has burned 14,117 acres and is 35% contained. The smaller Hurst Fire is almost fully controlled, with 97% containment over 799 acres.
Many people have lost their homes, and tens of thousands have escaped to safety. The fires have severely affected communities in the entertainment business, especially in Pacific Palisades and Altadena.

With the Los Angeles wildfires still upending lives in Southern California, the Critics Choice Awards has decided to delay its ceremony for the second time, Gold Derby has confirmed. The show was originally scheduled for Jan. 12, but it was pushed back to Jan. 26 after multiple devastating blazes broke out on Jan. 7. The 30th annual ceremony will now take place in February, at a specific date to be determined. See the updated events calendar.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the wildfires have killed at least 25 people, destroyed more than 12,000 structures, and displaced more than 88,000.
While Chelsea Handler is still expected serve as host, there is no word on whether the ceremony would be modified in any way to become a fundraiser for victims and first-responders. The show is still slated to take place at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif., and broadcast live on E! and streaming on Peacock the next day.

It’s hard to believe the Golden Globes took place just a week ago. The L.A. wildfires that raged over the following days brought Hollywood to a halt, displacing tens of thousands and killing dozens. Several of the celebrities who attended the Globes ceremony at the Beverly Hilton on Sunday, Jan. 5, have lost their homes. But as firefighters battle to control the blazes, the town is determined to prove its resilience. Production on television shows has begun ramping back up. And professional guilds are rethinking their strategies for the 2025 awards season. The business of Hollywood is moving forward, largely with a respectful eye toward to the victims and continued threats of the fires.

Mac McDonald may famously spend his days scheming, scamming and plotting with the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Gang — and for a fleeting, extortion-filled moment, Abbott Elementary principal Ava Coleman — but the Sheriff of Paddy’s Pub may now be applying his ocular pat-down skills to another endeavor: Hunting down the island that hosts the deadly games in Squid Games’ second season.
On Monday, Redditor Lil_Melon87 headed to the It’s Always Sunny subreddit to share a major takeaway from their watch of Squid Game’s newly-released second season — Mac sure looks a lot like amateur investigator Choi Woo-seok.

The Art Directors Guild has announced the nominees for its 29th Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards. Production design is all about worldbuilding, and so it’s fitting that the nominees are spread out by the kinds of worlds production designers are asked to create and the demands of their setting. The feature film nominee categories are amongst period settings, contemporary settings, and fantasy settings and the television shows are divided further by format between single-camera hourlong, half-hour, multicamera series, limited series, and TV movie, among others.
But the nominees themselves align with IndieWire’s predicted frontrunners for the Oscar category. “Dune: Part Two” and “Wicked,” among others, are nominated in the fantasy feature film category, while “The Brutalist,” and “Conclave” each received nominations in period feature and contemporary feature, respectively. On the TV side, “Shōgun” continues its conquest of guild nominations with one for period single-camera series, but “Squid Game,...

The Directors Guild of America (DGA) has revealed its nominees for the upcoming 2025 awards, and it’s a high-stakes Oscar season, proven by the notable snubs and surprises. The five filmmakers contending for the prestigious DGA Award for Directorial Achievement in Feature Film are the following:
Jacques Audiard for “Emilia Pérez” Sean Baker for “Anora” Edward Berger for “Conclave” Brady Corbet for “The Brutalist” James Mangold for “A Complete Unknown”
It’s a category entirely of first-time DGA nominees. Most notably, this is significant for Mangold, who nabbed the first of his career for the Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown,” which continues to pick up momentum coming after its haul at the SAG Awards noms. As winter awards season has kicked into full gear, it already seems like voters on the television side of things are looking toward the past more so than anticipating what new series will be feted in the next year.
A look at the nominations for the DGA Awards 2025 show that members of the Directors Guild are still keen on shows like “Shōgun,” “Ripley,” and the 96th Oscars, which all won the Emmys for Directing last year. Same goes for “The Bear” and “Saturday Night Live,” in the Comedy and Variety Series categories, respectively, though this time for episodes from the Emmy winners’ latest seasons (the guild awards and the Emmys abide by different eligibility windows.)
The DGA’s recognition of the third season of the Chicago-set FX series is particularly notable, as the sentiment coming out of the 2024 Emmys, where “The Bear” broke a record for most wins, yet lost Outstanding Comedy Series,...

“The Brutalist” and “Emilia Pérez” triumphed, “Shōgun” and “Hacks” had big nights, and Nikki Glaser reminded viewers what it’s like to have a host who’s actually funny in the most memorable Golden Globes ceremony since the awards show nearly atomized a few years ago. It was a broadcast notably light on politics (Glaser did have a funny bit about Hollywood’s lack of pull in the last election) and heavy on pleas for studios and suits to respect artists and bet on risky projects. Best of all, there were plenty of surprises — such as Fernanda Torres’ win for “I’m Still Here” over icons like Angelina Jolie and Nicole Kidman, and Sebastian Stan’s victory for the little-seen indie “A Different Man” — that could reorder the Oscar race.

In three different categories, the guild awards the directors of three programs doing very little to spread the wealth in another strong year of TV. Those series may sound familiar: “The Bear,” “Shōgun,” and “The Penguin.”
