It's fair to say that the world is ready to see more of Stephanie Hsu. Following her success with "Everything Everywhere All at Once", the actor has taken on several new projects, including the Disney+ series "American Born Chinese" and the raunchy comedy "Joy Ride," which she stars in alongside "Emily in Paris" star Ashley Park.
The film, which hit theaters on July 7, centers around a lawyer named Audrey (Park) who travels to China with a group of her closest friends in search of her birth mother. The unapologetic, hilarious nature of the flick gave Hsu a chance to do something outside her normal bubble, which was a thrill to experience, according to the actor. "It felt so exciting to get to do what we never get to do, which is to be completely unhinged, disgusting, grotesque, chaotic, wild, but still so full of heart," she explained in a July 2023 interview with Elle.

Photo: Nicole Byer Growing up, what I watched on television was relatively unmonitored by my parents which resulted in media consumption that was probably too mature for me. Maybe the reason for this was because my parents both worked, or perhaps because my sister was four years older than me, or it might have just been that they figured that inappropriate jokes would go over my little head. Either way, it shaped who I am today and my sense of humor. VH1’s ‘Girl Code’ was one show that fell into this category although it did provide me, at least, with helpful advice from hilarious women. The series began in 2013 and acted as a “how-to” guide to surviving womanhood; covering topics ranging from dating to drunk bathroom friendships. One of the breakout stars of the show was Nicole Byer who frequently offered the best and most consistently funny commentary. Related article: Exclusive: 'Dune' Full Commentary,...

John Cena and Nicole Byer have been tapped to host TBS’ revival of the outrageous physical competition series Wipeout. Cena and Byer will be joined by Camille Kostek (I Feel Pretty) as the entrenched Host in the Field, covering the contestants’ progress throughout each round.
The re-imagined series will return with new format twists. Each game has been designed into three rounds and now features a three-stage, obstacle course consisting of multiple strategy and decision points designed to further challenge, and wear out, the stamina of the competitors. The big red balls, an iconic staple of the show, are also back.
“I couldn’t be more excited for what’s in store for this radically absurd show that has its own fair share of legendary faceplants.” said Cena. “The power of Wipeout is its ability to gather people of all backgrounds for fast paced,...

The film is based on the novel by Soman Chainani and follows best friends Sophie and Agatha who are students at the titular School for Good and Evil, where ordinary boys and girls are trained to be fairy-tale heroes and villains.

When the girls find their fortunes reversed, with Sophie dropped into the School for Evil and Agatha into the School for Good, their friendship will be put to the test.
David Magee and Laura Solon have penned the script.

When Lulu Wang’s “The Farewell” premiered at Sundance this past January, the filmmaker’s intimate family feature instantly inspired two types of headlines: chatter about Wang as a breakout talent, and major accolades for star Awkwafina, taking on her first big dramatic role. Hiring a rapper and actress best known for crafting jams like “My Vag” and offering up supporting laughs in films like “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising” was a bit of a gamble.
And while it paid off, with the A24 film earning big critical love (it currently sits at a rare 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes), even the newly minted dramatic actress agrees that such risks are just part of her evolving career.
“I think that if I am cast in a production, already that means that production is kind of forward-thinking,” Awkwafina said in a recent interview with IndieWire. “Hiring me is always a risk, a little bit.

The past two years have seen a sea change in the career of Nora Lum known professionally as Awkwafina. She spent most of the early part of this decade putting her music degree to good use as an increasingly well-known hip-hop artist (she’d been rapping since she was 13). But along the way she landed acting roles in the MTV TV series “Girl Code” and became something of a household name last year after starring in “Ocean’s 8,” “Crazy Rich Asians” and hosting “Saturday Night Live” (the first Asian-American woman to do so since Lucy Lui in 2000).

Straight Up Films created the anthology “Power/On” of five shorts focused on encouraging girls in Steam directed by actresses Rosario Dawson, Julie Bowen, Ana Brenda Contreras, Lisa Edelstein, and Nikki Reed. With support from YouTube, the shorts premiered Wednesday at the Google campus in Playa Vista and will be available for streaming on YouTube on April 26.
Each film centers on women and girls working on and interacting with a different technological advancement.
Rosario Dawson told Variety at the anthology’s world premiere, “The point of this series is to show all the different ways people can show up for their family, their friends, their community by pushing themselves when they see a problem. Maybe a solution doesn’t exist, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be created.” She hopes that her work behind the camera will allow girls to see her as a role model, including her own daughter.
