Take away the melodrama.. and you actually get a somewhat realistic view of what its like to be single (or not married) in Charleston.... Maybe more accurately what its like to live in Charleston in the Summer... Excluding the 50 something popping out kids with a girl in her early 20s.
Although there is certainly more drama than one would typically have in daily life, much of the drama actually seems fairly authentic- even if over the top.
Its a Bravo show, so I guess it has to be graded on a curve... But it seems to have a pretty high production value all things considered (actually I've never watched another Bravo series- but I have a general impression of what the housewives series are probably like).
Most of the cast members are pretty normal for Charleston (with a few exceptions...ie Whitney's mom, who is at least entertaining), which highlights that if you were to edit and produce a show of most people's lives...you could make it seem more dramatic and exciting than reality).
Overall, Much better than I would've guessed.
One bone to pick- the theme song is misplaced... this takes place in Charleston/ Not New Orleans (which is very different).

I started watching to catch up to current seasons and segway into Southern Hospitality. I was good with it up to about season 8 I think because cast members disappeared basically. Then it got cringe with Thomas and the sexual assault which he admitted to and Bravo felt okay with showing him again and acting like that didn't happen. It almost makes me wonder with all that transpired with Kathryn, if she and new nanny staged it. The fact Kathryn moved back in with him after speaks volumes. I like Craig and Shep. I miss Cam but think she was smart to remove herself ahead of them showing Thomas. She is southern charming. I have zero pity for Kathryn and glad she removed herself. The biggest issue with this show is it's over produced and reality is lost in forced story lines. Cast changes are frustrating. Landon leaving was a plus because she was basically shamed off due to her falsely thinking she could fit into the south when clearly she is typical so cal trifling material. The hairdresser who was on survivor was annoying playing the , mom- to- everyone role like she was on a pedestal looking down on everyone. It got bad when they started white shaming and doing the whole poor me minority (i'm successful and wealthy but a victim) nonsense which is why I'm hesitant to watch southern hospitality. Shep and Craig are good reality tv as was cam and even Kathryn. Not sure why they kept Taylor except for a ridiculous plot line. Maddison isn't appealing to me. Patricia is great and I enjoy her parties and historical information she provides. Lots of bullying Shep for his age as if he's supposed to act and behave a certain way because of his age? Still, it's more entertaining than summer house but never will reach VPR status. Rating: 7.
This has been my favorite reality show since its inception. However, political wokeness took over the 7th season with the addition of a preachy, know-it-all female cast member, taking down Vice-President John C. Calhoun's statue, the one-sided representation regarding the emoji debacle (free speech anyone?), etc. It was disappointing to see this show reflecting (and encouraging) the casualties of "cancel culture." I am hopeful though at this writing that the upcoming 8th season (beginning this week) loses its preachy and politically correct tone. Without regulars Cameran, Chelsea, Naomi (with sweet Gizmo) and Thomas (when he's on his best behavior, that is), the last (7th) season definitely lost something and fell flat for me. Let's hope this season will be more light-hearted and convivial. And OMG, please change the annoying theme song! Seasons 1-6, I give a 10 rating; Season 7 a 1.
Loved this show until "wokeness" took over and now we have the obnoxious Leva to endure. And they clearly stuck Venita in there only to make it seem like the main characters didn't only hang out with white people. I'm ready for this show to be done.
Like I said, I fell in love with Southern Charm and everyone on the show. Until Season 7, GET RID OF Leva & Venita. They are nothing but bullies & loud mouths and won't shut up. I quit watching after Season 7 episode 10. Hopefully Season 8 will be back to a awesome show with the old actors back and Leva & Venita off the show, if not then you have lost a lot of people.
