Netflix has picked up “Mr. Iglesias,” the Gabriel Iglesias comedy, for a second season, the streamer announced on Thursday.
The multi-camera comedy stars the comedian as a good-natured public high school teacher who works at his alma mater and teaches gifted, misfit kids to not only save them from being “counseled out” by a bully bureaucrat assistant principal, but also to help them unlock their full potential.
Showrunner Kevin Hench will return for Season 2 and will serve as executive producer alongside Iglesias, Ron DeBlasio and Joe Meloche.

Marlon Wayans of White Chicks fame, is set to star in a new Netflix comedy called Sextuplets and he will play six different characters in the film! Wayans is known for his silly comedy movie work, so it's not surprising to see him take on a project like this. Here are the story details:
Sextuplets tells the story of Alan (Wayans), a man embarking on a personal journey to meet his birth mother before the arrival of his first child. When Alan meets his brother, Russell, he discovers that he was born a sextuplet and decides to seek out his four other siblings (all played by Wayans). Together, the two brothers set out on a road trip to track down the rest of the family that they’ve never known, and Alan quickly realizes he may have gotten more than he bargained for.
The comedy will be directed by Michael Tiddes,...

Netflix has given a 10-episode series order to a multi-camera comedy starring Gabriel “Fluffy” Iglesias as part of a three-project deal that also includes two new stand-up specials headlined by the comedian.
The pact expands Iglesias’ presence on Netflix. The Internet network previously ordered a special, I’m Sorry For What I Said When I Was Hungry, which premiered on its streaming platform in 2016, and also carries two older Gabriel Iglesias Comedy Central standup specials.
For the multi-cam comedy series, Iglesias has reteamed with Cristela co-creator/executive producer Kevin Hench. It was on the ABC multi-camera comedy, co-created, executive produced and starring comedian Cristela Alonso, where Iglesias landed his first big TV series role — he was a major recurring player on the sitcom. The entertainment industry just chalked up another victory armed with a potent legal tool: California’s Slapp law. The most recent win was by actor Marlon Wayans, who won dismissal last month of a lawsuit by a movie extra who claimed that Wayans racially harassed him on Twitter and on the movie set for “A Haunted House 2.” A California Court of Appeal ruled that the Slapp statute gave Wayans the power to quickly dismiss the lawsuit by movie extra Pierre Daniel because Wayans’ “allegedly harassing and offensive” tweets and verbal jabs were protected “free speech” in connection with “an issue of.

Thanks to a published ruling out on Thursday from a California appeals court, we can envision the film A Haunted House 2 coming up repeatedly in future disputes in the state of California. Among other things, a 50-page opinion by associate justice Jeffrey Johnson discusses the intersection between racial harassment and speech, examines whether "nigga" is a epithet when spoken by a black man, and not last nor least, addresses a celebrity's Twitter following while determining that a single tweet can make transformative use of someone else's identity.

E! News is reporting that The Flash has cast Ashley Rickards as Rosalind "Rosa" Dillion a.k.a. The Top and she'll make her debut as the extremely dangerous DC Comics villain in the fourth episode of the upcoming third season. Rickards' iteration will be a new take on The Top, a male character in the comics, but she'll retain the same metahuman abilities, which are to make people's heads spin. Her version will also likely share a fairly intimate relationship with Grey Damon's Mirror Master as she's being teased as the Bonnie to his Clyde. Rickards is best known for her lead role as Jenna Hamilton on MTV's comedy drama series Awkward and has also guest-starred on episodes of Zoey 101, Ugly Betty, One Tree Hill, Entourage, and American Horror Story: Murder House. Her film credits include Fly Away, Sassy Pants, A Haunted House 2, and Behaving Badly.

Wayans is teaming up with White Chicks and A Haunted House producer Rick Alvarez once again for the humorously titled Fifty Shades of Black.
Also returning for the new spoof moive will be A Haunted House director Michael Tiddes.
In an official statement, Wayans said: "Sex and comedy go hand-in-hand and I'm looking forward to having fun with this project. It's amazing when a film of this caliber comes along begging to be made fun of.

Here is the first red-band trailer for Vacation, the reboot/sequel from Horrible Bosses and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein.
The movie stars Ed Helms as a grown-up Rusty Griswold who seemingly wants to take his kids on his childhood vacation to Walley World. Some crude and filthy jokes later, we get a pretty solid first trailer that takes aim at the absurdity of it all.
The film also stars Christina Applegate, Leslie Mann, Chris Hemsworth, Steele Stebbins, Beverly D’Angelo, Skyler Gisondo, Nick Kroll, Charlie Day, Kaitlin Olson, Regina Hall, and Keegan-Michael Key.
Vacation opens in theaters on July 31st.

The Griswolds are back and the torch is being passed from Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo to Ed Helms and Christina Applegate as Helms plays Rusty Griswold in the new Vacation movie and here comes the film's first red band trailer. Award season is once again upon us, a time when we celebrate all the best films of 2014… and all the movies we never want to see again. The annual Golden Raspberry Awards have announced their shortlist of contenders, with Seth McFarlane's western-comedy A Million Ways to Die in the West leading the charge with eight potential nominations on the Razzies shortlist. The Cameron Diaz comedy Sex Tape also pops up in five shortlisted categories ranging from Worst Picture to Worst Screenplay to Worst Screen Combo for Diaz and Jason Segel.

2014 was a bit of a mixed bag for comedy on the silver screen. Sure, there were some very funny films last year. The Lego Movie surprised just about everyone with its wit, The Muppets Most Wanted and 22 Jump Street were worthy sequels and The Grand Budapest Hotel enchanted everyone with its whimsy.
Then there was the bad, ugly and unfunny side of 2014’s comedy output. Sex Tape barely raised a titter, Dumb And Dumber To paled in comparison to the original and the less said about Let’s Be Cops and A Haunted House 2, the better.
As a genre, comedy can be hit-and-miss at the best of times. At the end of the day, we are all amused by different things and what makes one person keel over in fits of hysterical giggles may leave another person completely stone-faced. It’s just the way it is and comedy films...

It seems every year I have this debate with myself whether or not to do a "worst of" list. Aren't the worst films of any year best forgotten, ignored, never to be mentioned againc Well, yes and no. Let's definitely forget them, but not forget the lessons they've taught us, lessons in what not to do, lessons of which 2014 was full of. Now before you go digging into this list, clicking the reviews and wondering how something that received a "D+" review could make the list over something that received a "D-", just understand grading movies isn't a science and, for me, what makes something the "worst" is very similar to what makes something the "best", it's the legacy the film holds in my mind. The films that made my "Top Ten Movies of 2014" are films I not only love, but films I hold fond memories for and would most...

For every year that is packed with awards season fodder and memorable movies that will go down in history, there is an equal number of films we wish we could erase from our memories.
The Worst of 2014 includes both people who should know better and repeat offenders, artists with a vision and hucksters out for a quick buck.
Here’s hoping the responsible parties resolve to do better in 2015.

Netflix streaming is upping the ante this December, adding enough high-profile TV shows and movies to more than make up for last month's lackluster offerings.
On the movie side, highlights include Will Ferrell and gang in "Anchorman 2," the Heath Ledger-starring "A Knight's Tale," Cameron Crowe classic "Almost Famous," Oscar-winning "American Beauty," and horror hits "Oculus" and "Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones." Oh, and let's not forget '80s classic "Troop Beverly Hills," '90s cult favorite "Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion," or Leonardo DiCaprio in "The Wolf of Wall Street."
And there's plenty to love about what's coming on the TV front: "American Horror Story: Coven" finally gets its day on Netflix, "Sharknado 2" storms its way to streaming, and Brit hit "Broadchurch" finally lands stateside. Oh, and December sees the premiere of the hotly anticipated Netflix Original series "Marco Polo" on the 12th.

News was released just yesterday that indie distributor A24 secured a $50 million line of credit, which it will use "to build out its film distribution business and finance initiatives in complementary industry verticals, it said." This is a studio responsible for films such as Under the Skin, Enemy, The Rover, Locke and more from this year alone. And while there may have been some misses in their lineup, they are a studio showing they aren't afraid of a little risk. While A24 isn't distributing Dan Gilroy's Nightcrawler, they are one of the few younger studios along with Nightcrawler distributor Open Road willing to release features that might otherwise be forgotten. Already this year Open Road has brought us Chef and will later deliver Jon Stewart's Rosewater and while they are more likely to also bring us something like A Haunted House 2 than A24, they also distributed Steven Soderbergh...

Chicago – The opening text to “Annabelle” comically clues its audience into the significance of dolls - beloved child play things, and/or vessels for evil spirits, whatever floats your boat.
This spin-off of the mute toy from “The Conjuring” (as later made love to intensely by Marlon Wayans in “A Haunted House 2”) presents a different usage as well, that of taking up shelf space.
Rating: 1.5/5.0
Like second-class beers from booze conglomerates or some Adam Sandler movies, “Annabelle” is most of a dibs on marquee room by the “Conjuring” franchise, the sleeper hit in 2013 not just a sequel but also a restless ongoing lawsuit concerning ownership to its not-so-true story. All of this achieved without the main force of evil, a doll, having to lift a finger. Or, blinking.
Echoing the story of “The Conjuring” in set-up, this spin-off/prequel picks a family from an early 1970s PSA on how...

Rosemary’s Scabies: Leonetti Does His Best James Wan Impression
Sure to take its place on future lists of cinematographer’s unfortunate attempts at directing, John R. Leonetti’s Annabelle, a sort-of prequel to a subplot from 2013’s The Conjuring, is technically assured though lacking in anything innately original or insidiously creepy. Basically another bargain basement housewife-in-peril horror film, Gary Dauberman’s script plays like another cheap Rosemary’s Baby knock-off, attempting to prove that a Los Angeles apartment complex is just as spooky as anything you’ll encounter in Manhattan. With no time wasted on comic relief as it takes itself surprisingly seriously (you can forget about all those Marlon Wayans shenanigans with ‘Abigail’ from A Haunted House 2), Leonetti leaves most of the heavy lifting to our own familiarity with the basic material and our lowered expectations with carbon copy.

When it comes to unexplainable creepiness, dolls are right up there with innocent, towheaded children and small towns where no one locks their doors. That's probably why people are hot to trot to see "Annabelle," the kinda sorta spin-off of "The Conjuring" that opened last night to the tune of $2.1 million.
There's nothing scarier than something you love gain consciousness, turn evil, and try to kill you and everyone you've ever loved. Especially a beloved toy like Woody, from "Toy Story." He's the best friend you could ever have, right? He's like a cooler, nicer, less bigoted version of John Wayne! He's adorable! Except it seems like he's been hanging out with Annabelle, that tiny monstrosity we first saw in "The Conjuring." She was just another evil freaking doll locked up in Ed and Lorraine Warren's special room dedicated to demonically possessed stuff back then. You might have even...

Principal Photography Begins On New Line Cinema’s Vacation Starring Ed Helms and Christina Applegate
“It’s a Long Way Down The Holiday Road!”
The next generation of Griswolds is at it again. Shooting has begun in Georgia on New Line Cinema’s Vacation, starring Ed Helms (“The Hangover” films) and Christina Applegate (the “Anchorman” films) on the road for another ill-fated adventure.
The film marks Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley’s directorial debut.
Following in his father’s footsteps and hoping for some much-needed family bonding, a grown-up Rusty Griswold (Helms) surprises his wife, Debbie (Applegate), and their two sons with a cross-country trip back to America’s “favorite family fun park,” Walley World.
Rounding out the cast are Chris Hemsworth (the “Thor” films) in the role of Stone Crandall, Rusty’s irritatingly successful brother-in-law; Charlie Day (the “Horrible Bosses” films), who plays a river rafting guide; and Skyler Gisondo (“Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb,” “Hard Sell”) and Steele Stebbins...

That long-rumored "Vacation" reboot is a rumor no more: The film has finally begun production in Georgia.
The flick stars Ed Helms as a grown-up Rusty Griswold, and Christina Applegate plays his wife, Debbie. According to the film's official plot synopsis, Rusty is "Following in his father's footsteps and hoping for some much-needed family bonding," so he "surprises his wife ... and their two sons with a cross-country trip back to America's 'favorite family fun park,' Walley World."
And while nothing is official yet, actress Leslie Mann is reportedly in talks to join the flick, too, as Rusty's sister, Audrey Griswold. The role would see the adult Audrey married to a man described by The Hollywood Reporter as "an up-and-coming anchorman named Stone Crandall."
Crandall will be played by Chris Hemsworth, Charlie Day will play a river rafting guide, and Skyler Gisondo ("Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb...

Locke Yesterday I posted an article delving into writer/director Steven Knight's audio commentary included on this new Blu-ray release and have made it quite obvious Locke is a film I easily consider one of the best movies of 2014 so far and I think it's a title well worth including in your collection. You can read about the audio commentary here and my theatrical review right here. That pretty much says it all for my part.
The Railway Man The Railway Man is no doubt just another traditionally told period piece, but I enjoyed it largely because it was a very well told, traditional period piece with solid performances from Colin Firth and Jeremy Irvine. I wouldn't necessarily say it's worth owning as I don't have any particular inclination to watch it again, but I do think you'll enjoy it should you give it a once over. You can...

Moviefone's Top DVD of the Week
"Locke"
What's It About? Tom Hardy stars as a construction foreman who's driving to London to attend the birth of his child. You really shouldn't have stressful conversations on your cell while driving, but Ivan (Hardy) doesn't care. He has to make sure his big job tomorrow goes as planned, confess to his wife that he cheated on her with a co-worker, and coaching the aforementioned co-worker through the premature birth of their baby. Yikes.
Why We're In: Hardy is more than capable of commanding the screen for the entirety of the movie. Although you hear other characters' voices, it's all Hardy, all the time. Who could argue with that?
Moviefone's Top Blu-ray of the Week
"Love Streams" (Criterion)
What's It About? John Cassavetes and real-life wife Gena Rowlands star as siblings who turn to each other for support after being left by everyone else in their lives.

Marlon Wayans keeps finding work, so some people must like what he’s been doing on the big screen lately. Sadly, Wayans’ horror spoof sequel A Haunted House 2 didn’t do much for our critic Matt Donato, who handed it one and a half stars and remarked of the movie, “Redundant, cheap, and overplayed – the word ‘effort’ doesn’t even come to mind.”
Still, A Haunted House 2 made $9.1 million during its opening weekend (roughly half of the previous film’s earnings), which more than justified the $4 million budget and suggests that there’s still a group of viewers out there not tired of Wayans’ schtick quite yet. To those filmgoers, this contest is for you.

Comedian Gabriel Iglesias has just started to make a silver screen presence, having done some voice-work for Planes in 2013 and The Nut Job in 2014, along with appearing in films like Magic Mike and A Haunted House 2. Now, Iglesias makes his biggest effort yet to show the moviegoing crowd his comedy of hyper impressions and voices with his first theatrical stand-up film, The Fluffy Movie.
I sat down in a roundtable interview with Iglesias to discuss his stand-up film, the power of Youtube numbers, the over-the-top stereotype humor in A Haunted House 2, Magic Mike 2, and more.
The Fluffy Movie opens everywhere on July 25.
What has been your involvement with this film project, aside from making the jokes?
This is really challenging for me because it’s my baby, I’m very personal about my standup. That’s all I’ve known. And so the back-and-forth with the film company,...

You might remember him from A Haunted House 2, but those unfamiliar with comedian Gabriel Iglesias would do themselves a big favor if they checked out The Fluffy Movie. It marks his first ever concert film and was shot at a recent show he did in San Jose.
In the film, Iglesias gets deep as he shares with his dedicated fans the struggles he has been going through as of late. He talks about dealing with diabetes and how he had to change his ways or die an early death, his relationship with his stepson, and about coming face to face with his father whom he has not seen in a couple of decades. While it may seem like a drama from that description, I assure you that this movie has a lot of big laughs from start to finish.

The Grand Budapest Hotel I just received my copy of The Grand Budapest Hotel yesterday so I haven't had a chance just yet to explore it, though it does look a little light on features. I wonder, will Criterion get their hands on this one too in a couple yearsc Nevertheless, it's still one of the best movies of the year so far.
The Lego Movie Another solid movie, though not one I'm going to add to my collection. Once was enough for The Lego Movie for me, at least right now. I wouldn't be surprised if Warner Bros. does a big awards push at the end of the year for this one, maybe I'll watch it again then.
Picnic at Hanging Rock (Criterion Collection) Peter Weir's Picnic at Hanging Rock was one of the entries in the now defunct Movie Club back in 2012 so if you're looking for...
