Matt Zane of Zane Entertainment Group represents an indie voice in porn from the VHS era -this movie lacks the big budget or sleek style of a Brad Armstrong epic, but makes up for it in raw sex and engrossing neo-noir story.
Sunset Thomas is a star who projects that girl next door allure that typified Playboy Playmates during Hefner's most successful period, but goes extreme gonzo to the fans' delight. She's introduced in a diner humping the janitor (Sean RIder) and then impulsively falling in with bad guys in her quest to escape from a stultifying life stuck in the sticks.
Wearing shades throughout, Jonathan Morgan does a fine job playing a tough guy for a change, and Zane writes himself a big role as a martial arts-savvy young thug, as action and violence breaks out from time to time between the show's requisite sex scenes.
If a major porn label like Wicked, Vivid or Adam & Eve had made this movie it would have been glossy, but Zane manages to maintain a rough look (in decor too -see an atmospheric scene in a low-down strip club where the usually glamorous Shayla LaVeaux is utterly raunchy putting on a live sex show with Steve Hatcher) that has bite.
Supporting femme cast is impressive, including busty blonde Julie Rage and lovely Shanna McCullough. I particularly enjoyed the nihilistic, violent climax scene, something that self-censorship has practically removed from the toolkit of today's Adult video productions. (Also watch for a tribute to that classic noir "Kiss Me Deadly".)
