  • With an extroverted androgynous emcee Filthy Phil in charge, "Cabaret Bizarre" is just that, presented as a series of stage acts performing mechanical kinky sex to astound and amaze the audience. Tanya Hyde was yet to perfect the fabulous style that marks her later Harmony Films projects but this work made following her stint at the Private label definitely displays her fetish prowess.

By feature's end Phil has treated us briefly (thank God) to some of his specialties, such as tying weights to his nipples or cock in self-abuse. But the content instead focuses on the usual Brit Porn studs (plus a young Mick Blue billed as "Mickey Blue") humping or merely tormenting a succession of hot femmes, of whom home-grown busties Donna Marie and Alicia Rhodes stand out from the usual Eastern European lookalike models.

There is zero emotional connection between any of the players, who are mechanically and skillfully putting on a XXX show, pure and simple. For a newcomer to fetish or BDSM cinema the effect is supposed to be jaw- dropping, but overall it is merely tedious as that element of fantasy and style peculiar to Hyde's art is lacking.

So one watches a gang-bang with several guys in fetish-gear including a dog's head on a smoky set with Madame Pudenda serviced in every orifice, while the DVD menu sloppily bills the character as Madame Hudenda instead. Cocky the Clown is a diminutive fellow dressed up in almost harlequin attire humping away at girls in cages. A trite emergency ward of a hospital is merely an excuse for medical-themed porn with a massive stainless steel dildo for anal penetration and the usual gynecological close-ups.

The pantomime format is greatly enhanced by the play-by-play color commentary in voice-over delivered by Miss Kitty. Her posh accent and relish of talking dirty without resorting to pornspeak gutter language is delightful.

Of course this lesser Hyde effort won a meaningless industry award, further proof that such accolades are more a hindrance than a helpful pointer for the Adult fan to sort among the millions of older titles which ones are worth watching. Evil Angel distributed this British import in America, but I was fortunate enough to buy a Harmony original, which has the decency to list the full cast credits on the DVD liner (Buttman chose to only cite the femmes).
