  • Lets be honest here, I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I first clicked play. All I saw was Parambrata and Mimi and I knew that I was in for a quality performance. Little did I know that it is so much more than a mere performance. First came the shock of the opening scene, only to be replaced by disgust, then as expected the senses glazed over to mere acceptance, citing experience as an alibi. But if you are expecting the ending here, you are definitely in for a surprise. You must be wondering what do I have to say about the overall performance, about the cinematography, about the script.. I would say, the script followed the direction which would make most of us cringe because it would take you on a ride down the street you tread everyday, exposing you to a reality check.

But lets talk about the theme of the movie, is it just an average crime thriller where we can conveniently separate us from the reality and cocoon ourselves in our own makeshift comfort zone, while cradling our fragile psyche, muttering all along that it can never happen to us, that it's all too unreal to happen to us. Are we really that immune ? well statistics beg to differ.

Not intending to give out spoilers but the words and points brought up in the movie are meant to stay with you long after you have left the theater while munching on your popcorn and sipping on the fizzy soda. We do cite Shakespeare in our drawing rooms, add generous helpings of quotes to our essays with bold lettered alphabets, yet do we ever act on them...while I was asking myself the question, what's next? after we do act and end up in ruins, whatever happens to our selfish ends? those gilded dreams of riches, those disappointed looks from the "Society".

Proloy has left a barrage of questions unanswered, even more emotions unearthed and unconstrained. Tears were left out in the open, at the though of the injustice committed, helplessness in the wake, compulsion restraining actions and our mundane dreams exposed, the question is, whether it shall leave us scurrying back to the dark, damp corners of safety and submission or by sheer chance a gleaming beacon of raw sunlight would indulge us to stand up for ourselves and not for once "suck it up, to the point of being chocked on it"....
  • The hidden diamond of Bengali cinema world. It will continue to float in front of the eyes, just like the movies that cut through the skin.
