    Storyline

    Edit
Nobody knows where the Machine has now relocated itself, but it is still in contact with both Finch and, by association, Reese and their new partner Shaw, as well as Root. Still institutionalized, Root may have a short term problem in dealing with her psychiatrist, whom she sees as being stupid, and from whom she has not been provided access to any electronic devices including telephones. Carter, now demoted to patrol following her HR-initiated wrongful shooting incident, has her own new primary agenda. She has also not told Finch or Reese of her association with a past number. And the Machine has dispensed another number to Finch, that of navy sailor, petty officer second class Jack Salazar. Upon first sighting, Reese, despite or partly because he chose the military over a prison sentence for an assault five years earlier, likes Salazar, a man who seems to stand up for his principles and his friends and who knows how to take care of himself using his fists. After Reese loses track of him, he may be difficult to relocate since he is one of approximately 4,000 sailors in town for the day on fleet week. They will learn that the Machine-identified situation in which Salazar is involved is in part related to his recent activities off the coast of Africa, those activities for which others are highly interested without his knowledge. —Huggo

    • Trivia
Just before the end credits, during the Machine's assessment of Root's situation, one of the graph's node is labeled "Global Thermonuclear War", a reference to WarGames (1983).
    • Goofs
A Lockheed A-12 "Oxcart" is visible on the deck of the USS Colorado. The A-12 was a developmental aircraft that was used by the CIA from 1967-1968, and would never have been deployed to an aircraft carrier, especially not in 2013 when the episode takes place. The Intrepid Sea, Air, & Space museum stood in for the fictional USS Colorado, which explains the presence of the aircraft.

Sameen Shaw: Multiple shooters above you, Reese. Get clear, now.

      [Targets the Russians]

Sameen Shaw: You gonna ambush somebody, use a muzzle suppressor. Losers.

John Reese: [Getting shot at] Shaw, a little help here?

Sameen Shaw: I would have taken the head shot, but Finch gets annoyed when I kill people.

      [Shoots]

Sameen Shaw: In the arm, through a brick wall, in the dark. You're welcome.

[the person falls out the window]

      Sameen Shaw: Oops.

    • Crazy credits
The new Season 3 Main Title Sequence includes a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment at 16 second mark, when brief footage of Root (Amy Acker) is seen. Accompanying this is The Machine's designation for Root, displayed on the screen: "Analog Interface".

Things are going to get complicated.
The third season has started with the addition of Shaw to the team of dead vigilantes. And though she is beautiful, she's dangerous. With Taraji P Henson and Jim Caviziel in their respective roles the new season has brought with it unknown possibilities. The Machine has hidden itself in an unknown location and has chosen Root to be her new contact in the world. Why though? Maybe we'll find out this fall. Now this is all about the last season.

This season is just beginning and the first episode reveals some hints as to what might come. Still everything is shrouded in the realm of uncertainty. The fate of Harold, John, Shaw, Carter and Fusco are too deeply connected now and we can only hope that there is no fallout from the government agency which was brilliantly tricked by the Machine. Although no new characters have been introduced yet, the day is still young and we'll never know what twist the fates may take though definitely the Machine does.

    Until next week, that's all.
