  • Don't get me wrong, i think it's entertaining and honestly i just love it. But i can see its flaws as well. It feels like it wants to go on just forever, and it's really hard to watch when you don't really find the contestants sympathetic. And yeah you just cannot really sit down and watch an episode in itself for the ideas. Its meant to be watched as a whole and sometimes it can feel a lot. But i just love it. It has been a source of a ton of entertainment and joy for me and my mother. We moved recently and still we are looking for ideas and its good to see other 'suffer' with the same problems and logistics. And i think in the end the show is really good in capturing the joy and beauty of renovation.
  • One judge thinks it is heavenly, the other says it stinks, judges giving perfect scores after they themselves point out several flaws, on the other hand they give 3/10 after disliking just one thing while praising everything else that's been done. Judges hating everything that's been done, but then scoring it 7/10 across the board, thus artificially keeping the contestants close to each other. These are just examples, and once you start noticing it, you can't stop noticing it happens in every episode. Contestants' words or actions get twisted so they seem unsympathetic, others say or do the exact same thing but they get a free pass, every build is the hardest of them all (till the next one comes along), every couple is racing till the final second and then drops dead having finished it just that second, but before that they have time to play around and talk to the camera for hours not doing any work, it's made to look that everything's filmed in continuity, but then they interview the couples like they are reacting on things that happened seconds ago. It is so flawed. It has now even gotten to the point that only judges choose the winner (no public voting any more), so it's no longer a game show, but a carefully planned out script where the winner can be predetermined before the first hammer has been swung. I used to love it, but once you start noticing these flaws all the time, the fun is over. It just gets worse every year (especially the judging), to the point I decided I won't watch the next season

Supposedly the show is about contestants renovating premises and being judged on their work. With the main goal being to win a large sum of money at the end. However, the show is now very little about their handiwork, but more about the soap opera dramatics between the contestants.
  • "Poor and over-exaggerated drivel"

To say this show was poor is an understatement, I do hope that this show does not last another season because it tries to hard to compare itself to 'The Block', which in my opinion is a better show in every aspect of reality, editing, and the design of rooms from contestants.

Another reason I don't like this show is because it has very little twist that you would hope to see from a reality show. It tends to drag on for weeks than months and it seems to never end. You can defiantly notice this show was made by the folks from 'My Kitchen Rules', because it has a very similar structure that is poor.

This isn't the worse show I have ever seen, but it comes close to it.

If your into trashy shows, this is for you. If you like intellectual shows this isn't for you.

Overall - I don't recommend this show. Don't waste your time.

    Warning: Spoilers
The current season (season 5) has changed the whole format and I hate it, for one they have changed the prize from a full mortgage payment to winning $200,000, why the hell would they do that, second they have got rid of one of the judges and put 2 more in, they just seem to be copying extremely from The Block and its ridiculous, they should not have changed the format at all.

Must be the most used phrase in this show.

If there is something that stands out, it is that the people participating in this show and jury have no taste in interior decoration at all.

Hilarious to watch, hence the 3/10 rating.
  • This show's ratings are only up because people sit waiting for Sunday night to come on TV, or any other show following it. Channel 7 is a generic channel. People just have it on. The show is crap, and they should really stop airing it before channel 7 becomes one of those channels that you just don't click on. House rules is boring, repetitive, slow, lacks excitement, is beyond annoying , always has the same type of characters, I'm so sick of this pathetic show, please take it off TV. Put superswitch on instead of house rules!
