The renowned Belgian series High Tides is also known as ‘Knokke Off’ and it’s all set to return for Season 2.
The Flemish-Dutch co-production ‘High Tides’ will be returning for a second season, as announced by Netflix Netherlands – which is now underway as of April 2024.
The series is, without a doubt, a Netflix Original when it was first aired on Vrt 1 in Belgium.
The major Ott channel first announced the second season renewal when it acquired the rights to the series sometime in November 2023 – with the first season touching down on November 7th, 2023.
Since it’s grand arrival on Netflix, despite a slow start, the show has since picked up relative memento and found success in the sense that it is listed in Netflix’s top 10. If that’s not enough, the show also featured in the global top 10 sometime around December 4th and 10th.

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ is the next big thing in the Star Wars universe. It’s the first live-action show set in the High Republic era, and it’s groundbreaking because it will portray the Jedi as the bad guys, as they are an overwhelming systemic force in that specific time period.
We’ve learned a lot about the show in the past few weeks since the trailer dropped, especially about its influences. The show was pitched as “Frozen meets Kill Bill” and it draws heavily from Samurai and Wuxia films, promising some very exciting action scenes.
Now, many fans haven’t delved into the broader Star Wars universe beyond just the live-action films and shows. Leslye Headland also explained that the High Republic books were a major influence, even adapting some characters to the big screen.

The third installment of the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ was released on May 5th, 2023, after ‘Quantumania’ was deemed a commercial and critical failure, the movie was a much-needed success for the studio.
Gunn initially shared ideas for a third and final film in November 2014, then confirmed his return as writer and director in April 2017. However, Disney fired him from the project in July 2018 due to controversial Twitter (now X) posts. Gunn was reinstated by October of the same year. His return was made public in March 2019, and production resumed after his work on DC’s ‘The Suicide Squad’ and ‘Peacemaker’ series was over. Despite the movie being a success, Gunn never planned on staying with the MCU as at that point he was already named co-chairman and co-ceo of DC Studios and was about to start work on a new and rebooted Dcu, replacing Dceu.

Following Mo’ Better Blues, Malcolm X, He Got Game, and Inside Man, Spike Lee and Denzel Washington are planning a reunion. With the director being on the longest break between narrative features since his debut in 1986, having last helmed 2020’s Da 5 Bloods, it’s now been unveiled he will direct a reimagining of Akira Kurosawa’s High and Low.
Variety reports that Washington will lead the project, scripted by Alan Fox and Spike Lee, and backed by Apple Original Films and A24. Based on Ed McBain’s novel King’s Ransom, the original film starred Toshiro Mifune as a wealthy industrialist whose family becomes the target of a ruthless kidnapper.
High and Low will also mark Lee’s second high-profile remake after his 2013 feature Oldboy. With production beginning this spring, a theatrical release has also been confirmed––which we imagine will take place in 2025––followed by an Apple TV+ global bow.

One of George Lucas' primary influences when making "Star Wars" was Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa, who is generally considered his country's best director aside from maybe Yasujirō Ozu. Whereas Ozu is famous for making domestic comedies and dramas, Kurosawa made movies that felt epic: samurai movies, noir thrillers ("High & Low"), and Shakespearean stories translated into his homeland's history ("Throne of Blood").
This may be one reason why "Star Wars" is popular in Japan. If you don't believe the box office, look at Japanese pop culture; anime cornerstones like "Gundam" owe a debt to Lucas. One Japanese "Star Wars" fan is Hiromu Arakawa, the manga artist most famous for creating "Fullmetal Alchemist." (Arakawa is not shy about expressing her opinions on the "Star Wars" films either.)

The official website for the live-action film adaptation of Golden Kamuy , based on Satoru Noda's adventure manga, announced today on January 18 that voice actor Kenjiro Tsuda serves as the film's narrator. Tsuda has voiced Hyakunosuke Ogata in the Golden Kamuy anime series since 2018. The site writes, "At the preview event held the other day, Tsuda's voice could be heard as soon as the film started, then surprise reverberated throughout the venue." "To be honest, I was very hesitant about participating. I had played the role of Hyakunosuke Ogata in the anime version, and I wondered if I would interfere with the worldview of the live-action version by narrating the story. Would I confuse the audience? I thought about many things." Tsuda said. "At the same time, however, I thought that Golden Kamuy has a power and scale that blows away such small things. Yes, this is a work that mixes seriousness and comedy,...

Elvis Presley‘s “(Marie’s the Name) His Latest Flame” is one of his best hits that’s sadly neglected by oldies stations today. Tom Petty heard demos of “(Marie’s the Name) His Latest Flame” — and he felt the song was originally a mess. However, Petty had a different attitude toward the finished track. Regardless, he still criticized the “Heartbreak Hotel” singer.
Tom Petty said Elvis Presley’s ‘(Marie’s the Name) His Latest Flame’ is ‘beautiful’
During a 2011 interview with Rolling Stone, Petty named “(Marie’s the Name) His Latest Flame” as one of the songs by the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll that inspired him. He explained why the tune meant so much to him. “An acoustic guitar and a snare drum played with brushes carry the rhythm, but when the six-string bass comes in and the piano goes up to the high register, the whole thing jumps out of the speaker,...

Any film can submit up to three songs, and the “Barbie” entries were as expected: Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made for,” Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night” and the Mark Ronson-Andrew Wyatt song “I’m Just Ken.”

Nicolas Cage doesn’t really care if you know he’s related to Francis Ford Coppola.
The actor, best known for his lively performances in flicks such as Con Air and Face/Off, famously changed his name from Nicolas Coppola to Nicolas Cage at the start of his career. He told a boisterous audience this afternoon at the Red Sea Film Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, that he made the switch for two reasons.
The first appeared to be what Cage described as some early career on-set bullying.
“I did a little movie called Fast Times at Ridgemont High,” Cage said. “When I was on set, some of the other actors couldn’t believe I had talent because I was Coppola’s nephew. They would quote lines from Apocalypse Now and change lines to ‘I love the smell of Nicholas in the mornings instead of napalm in the morning.’”

Warning: This review will contain spoilers for "Star Wars: The High Republic - The Eye of Darkness" by George Mann, which was provided to the author for purposes of review
As the first adult novel in the third phase of Lucasfilm's High Republic initiative, "Star Wars: The High Republic - The Eye of Darkness" by George Mann takes us back to the future. In the first phase of the High Republic, the clock was set back on the "Star Wars" universe about 150 years before the events of "The Phantom Menace." As the Republic is much more of a frontier government, stretching its influence in a galaxy where communication is a little bit more difficult, the Jedi are tested by a group called the Nihil who ultimately destroy their station, Starlight Beacon. It was an attack on the very ideals of the Republic and the foundation of the Jedi. Many...

More fallout from the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. ABC has opted not to proceed with The Good Lawyer, its planned legal spinoff from The Good Doctor that was going to be toplined by Kennedy McMann and Felicity Huffman.
The network had delayed pickup decisions on two spinoffs, bubble drama series The Rookie: Feds and the Good Lawyer pilot. Today, the call was made, and neither is moving forward.
The Good Lawyer originated as a Good Doctor planted spinoff, with the backdoor pilot airing as an episode of the hit medical drama last spring. It was well received, with ABC brass high on McMann and Huffman’s performances.
The options on the cast were up August 15. Because of the SAG-AFTRA strike, the hold period was extended for the duration of the work stoppage, so ABC had another month to make a decision on The Good Lawyer.
As Deadline has reported, the longer the strikes went past Labor Day, the longer the odds were for outstanding series to get a pickup. ABC also canceled Home Economics at the end of September.
ABC had planned to launch The Good Lawyer this coming spring as the broadcasting networks are running out of shelf space as they try to accomodate all of their popular returning scripted series.
For that reason, ABC in late September opted to push its only new scripted series, the one-hour High Potential to next fall. That project, starring Kaitlin Olson, is the only ABC 2023 pilot to get a series order.
The Good Lawyer, from Sony Pictures Television and ABC Signature, was written by The Good Doctor co-showrunners David Shore and Liz Friedman. In the backdoor pilot episode, Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) seeks legal representation to help him win a case and puts his faith in a promising, young lawyer, Joni DeGroot (McMann) who has obsessive compulsive disorder.

Travon Free and Martin Desmond Roe have found their next act.
The Oscar-winning duo behind police brutality short Two Distant Strangers and, more recently, HBO’s Bs High, have teamed with Group Nine Studios’ former president Mickey Meyer to launch a new entertainment company titled The Unreasnble. The goal of the full-service media company is to develop, produce, finance and incubate stories that have had historically limited access to mainstream media.
“The work stoppages and battles we recently experienced and are still experiencing across our industry for fair and equitable pay and ownership of our work is a clear sign we can no longer adapt to the ways of this business,” explains Free, “but instead we have to adapt it to us, the creators, and that’s what we intend to do.”
As part of the launch, the team will also acquire Roe’s award-winning production company Dirty Robber, which...

ABC is making some changes to its lineup following the resolution of the writers strike.
Comedy Home Economics has been canceled after three seasons, and new drama High Potential has been moved to fall 2024.
ABC still has to make decisions on a renewal for The Rookie: Feds and the status of The Good Lawyer, a backdoor-pilot spinoff of The Good Doctor. It passed on four of its pilots in June: Anthony Anderson-fronted Public Defenders and Ellie Kemper-led Keeping It Together, which is a remake of British comedy Motherland, as well as dramas The Hurt Unit, starring Melissa George and Ben McKenzie, and Judgement starring Sex/Life’s Sarah Shahi.
Home Economics, which stars Topher Grace and comes from Michael Colton and John Aboud, ran from 2021-23 on ABC. It was on the bubble for a renewal and there had been some hope that it could return after the...

Well, Blue Lock fans can look forward to the release of chapter 233, which is scheduled to come out sometime in September 2023. The good news is that there won’t be any breaks, so the chapter will be available as planned.
To read it, you can either get a physical copy of Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine or purchase a digital version. In the previous chapter, Kaiser attempted to score a goal with a powerful move named Kaiser Impact, but Lorenzo managed to block it, and then Aiku cleared the ball.
Hiori also got in the action as he tried to regain control of the ball but faced stiff competition from Barou and Niko. The match was super intense, and Hiori got fired up as he worked hard to win the ball back.

Olivia Rodrigo says she “didn’t really pay attention” to criticisms of her calling out the Supreme Court on stage after it overturned the abortion rights ruling of Roe v. Wade last year, adding that “expressing your rage and dissatisfaction” is what music’s about.
The Sour singer and former High School Music: The Musical: The Series star spoke about the moment for a lengthy profile in The Guardian ahead of the release of her latest album, Guts. Her brief but impassioned speech took place ahead of her appearing onstage to sing “Fuck You” with Lily Allen during the 2022 Glastonbury music festival.
Recalling the experience, Rodrigo — who had memorized the speech, according to Allen — said she had already asked the British pop singer if they could duet the song when, a day before they were set to go onstage, the decision came down.

Denzel Washington has managed to avoid sequels and franchises for most of his career, but there is one exception: "The Equalizer," a movie reboot of the 1980s TV series that has since become Washington's first movie trilogy. All three movies were directed by Antoine Fuqua, whose working relationship with Washington dates back to 2001's "Training Day." Now, the early box office numbers for "The Equalizer 3" -- ostensibly the final outing for Washington's Robert McCall -- are in, and they're ending the 2023 summer box office on a high note.
More specifically, they've pushed the box office to its first $4 billion summer since the pandemic began, per The Hollywood Reporter. John Galliano loomed large over the world of fashion throughout the 1990s and early aughts. As the creative director of Givenchy and Dior, Galliano was widely admired for his bold, barrier-pushing style and his sensual, elegant designs. But Galliano’s career imploded after videos emerged of him in 2010 and 2011 speaking admiringly of Adolf Hitler and launching into an antisemitic and racist diatribe, shocking the patrons of a Parisian cafe. It was, in retrospect, an early example of “cancel culture,” one that makes Galliano’s rise and fall instructive in light of the similar public reckonings that many Hollywood figures have faced in recent years.
Kevin Macdonald’s fascinating new documentary, “High & Low — John Galliano,” uses the fallen fashion icon to examine the limits of forgiveness, as well as the possibility of redemption. Galliano, who was heavily intoxicated when he made his comments, is sober now and says he’s worked...

Alexander Payne’s “The Holdovers,” Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin’s “Nyad,” Emerald Fennell’s “Saltburn” and George C. Wolfe’s “Rustin” are among the films that will screen at the 2023 Telluride Film Festival, Telluride organizers announced on Wednesday.
The festival begins on Thursday, only one day after the announcement of the lineup. The late notice is a tradition at Telluride, which sells out its passes every year without revealing what films will be playing in the Colorado mountain town — although as the Toronto International Film Festival has gotten more detailed in announcing the premiere status of its bookings, it’s been increasingly easy to read between the lines of Toronto releases to figure out what’s headed to Telluride.
(This year, for example, Payne’s “The Holdovers,” which reunites the director with his “Sideways” star Paul Giamatti, was listed as an international premiere by TIFF, which meant that...

As Justified: City Primeval‘s eighth and final episode fades to black this Tuesday night around 11/10c, viewers may be left wondering if Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens will live on via another FX limited series — a “Season 2,” if you will.
Inspired by the late Elmore Leonard’s crime novel City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit, FX’s sequel series led Raylan (played again by Timothy Olyphant) from his home in Miami to Detroit, where he locked horns with sociopath Clement Mansell aka “The Oklahoma Wildman” (Boyd Holbrook).

The options on the cast of ABC’s backdoor pilot The Good Lawyer were up today, which means that by now, the network would’ve made a decision on The Good Lawyer spinoff starring Kennedy McMann and Felicity Huffman.
But the fate of the pilot — as well as ABC bubble series The Rookie: Feds and Home Economics — remain in limbo amid the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. And the longer the work stoppages go, the longer the shows’ odds of getting a pickup get.
According to rules pertaining to the SAG-AFTRA strike, any cast hold period is extended for the duration of the work stoppage. Since ABC and leading The Good Lawyer studio Sony Pictures Television had another month on the pilot actors’ options when the SAG-AFTRA strike started July 14, that time will be added when the strike ends.
Home Economics cast’s options were extended for 60 days when they were up June 30, I hear.

Ben Wheatley is one of the most unpredictable filmmakers working today. He impressed with his feature debut, the darkly funny "Down Terrace," but took a huge leap when he decided to blend two quintessential British genres, crime flicks and folk horror, with the terrifyingly brilliant "Kill List." Wheatley could've hightailed it for Hollywood on the strength of the latter, but he had different priorities. He bounced from the psychedelic horror of "A Field in England" to an effective adaptation of J.G. Ballard's dystopian "High-Rise" to the pitch-black shoot-em-up "Free Fire." He subsequently took a crack at Daphne du Maurier's "Rebecca," and while he couldn't quite place his distinctive stamp on the material (which Alfred Hitchcock aced with David O. Selznick hanging over his shoulder in his 1940 Best Picture winner), you had to admire his ambition.
Wheatley is an undoubtedly gifted filmmaker, but, film to film, I can't...

This post contains spoilers for "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3."
The third and final chapter of James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy" trilogy is a pretty somber movie. Between including a goodbye to several of the Guardians, exploring Rocket's (Bradley Cooper) tragic backstory in sob-inducing detail, and hinging its climax around the ruthless demolition of an entire planet, the movie definitely leans a little more towards deep emotion than levity. It's a gambit that works, but when two great comedic actors were on screen, I couldn't help but wish they had a few more jokes to work with.
The duo in question here is Miriam Shor and Nico Santos, two actors who play The High Evolutionary's (Chukwudi Iwuji) sometimes-scheming sidekicks. With their cyberkinetic enhancements, mad scientist outfits, and desperate need for moisturizer, Vim (Shor) and Theel (Santos) are more scary than funny. Yet the performers under the...
