Updated, May 11: The recipients in the remaining 18 of this year’s 33 categories at the 35th Annual GLAAD Media Awards were announced May 11 at a New York ceremony hosted by Ross Matthews. They included Red, White & Royal Blue, The Last Of Us, Heartstopper, The Jennifer Hudson Show, Rustin and Las Culturistas.

Jennifer Hudson received the Excellence in Media Award, introduced by Laverne Cox. Orville Peck received the Vito Russo Award, presented by Jennifer Lawrence. The evening featured live performances by Loren Allred and Scott Hoying, of Pentatonix.

The March 14 Los Angeles ceremony, hosted by Wayne Brady, revealed the first 16 category winners spanning film, TV, music, theater, podcasts, video games, comic books and journalism. The winners list includes Ted Lasso, Yellowjackets, RuPaul’s Drag Race and Reneé Rapp.

“The Jennifer Hudson Show,” “Rustin” and “Red White & Royal Blue” earned top prizes at the New York GLAAD Media Awards, which this year celebrates the 35th year of the annual awards show.

Awards were presented Saturday night at the Hilton Midtown in New York City. The show was hosted by television personality Ross Mathews.

Notable winners included Jennifer Hudson, who received the excellence in media award, and Orville Peck, who was honored with the Vito Russo award presented by Jennifer Lawerence.

The night also featured live musical performances from Loren Allred and Scott Hoying.

Since 1990, the GLAAD Media Awards has honored fair, accurate and inclusive representations of LGBTQ people and issues across all forms of media, including film, television, journalism, comic books and video games.

After more than three decades working in various film business capacities — including distribution, festival direction, and publicity — Love made the leap into producing as co-producer of Lee Daniels’ The United States vs. Billie Holiday (2021), for which Andra Day was an Academy Award nominee and a Golden Globe Award winner.

His latest producing project is Daniel Peddle’s feature documentary Beyond the Aggressives: 25 Years Later. Beyond the Aggressives revisits principals from the previous feature, uniting two generations of queer Bipoc in conversation and in action. As the calendar changes to March, Paramount+ is ringing in the month with its latest list of library additions, film and series premieres, and more. Get ready for the Paramount+ Original coming-of-age feature “Little Wing,” starring Brooklynn Prince, Che Tafari, Brian Cox and Kelly Reilly, midway through the month, as well as a sequel follow-up to the groundbreaking 2005 documentary “The Aggressives,” the feature follow-up “The Thundermans Return,” and Season 5 premiere of “Never Seen Again.”

The new month will also include many additions and exclusive premieres available only to Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers, like the premiere of “A Gentleman in Moscow,” Ewan McGregor, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Leah Harvey, Johnny Harris, and more. March will also mark the debut of the streaming premieres of two recent award winners: the 2022 Cannes Caméra d’Or winner “War Pony” and the 2023 SXSW Film Festival Grand Jury Award-winning British horror film “Raging Grace.”

The cult documentary “The Aggressives” began with a queer NYU graduate film student, Daniel Peddle, hanging out on the West Side Highway with a minicam before becoming a groundbreaking indie sensation in 2005. Shot with a vérité brio throughout New York City, “The Aggressives” pivoted around half a dozen queer and Bipoc people struggling with health and housing while finding community in identifying as masculine-presenting “AGs,” or aggressives, stretching their self-expression beyond the borders of their assigned gender. But Peddle was left dissatisfied with that documentary’s ending, which left doors of uncertainty ajar in detailing the pleasures and pains of queer life. Thus, a quarter of a century later, he returns to his subjects for “Beyond the Aggressives: 25 Years Later,” a heartfelt and hopeful portrait of four of the original AGs that feels more complete and finds each of them on steadier footing — eventually.
