Uppercut is a knockout! With gripping storytelling and deeply human performances, this film truly delivers.
Ving Rhames, a Hollywood legend, draws on his full range of artistic talents to bring depth and gravitas to his role, reminding us why he's one of the greats.
Luii shines in her Hollywood debut, delivering a breakout performance that is both raw and captivating. Her emotional range and commanding presence make it clear we'll be seeing much more of her in the future.
The character development is rich and compelling, pulling you into the heart of the story, while the fight scenes are charged with an intensity that feels both authentic and thrilling. Equal parts action-packed and deeply moving, Uppercut is an emotional must-watch that leaves a lasting impression. Loved every second of it! 9/10.

This was an absolutely mindless and completely empty vessel of a movie, there was just the faintest sketch of a story with barely any action, and one could say that nothing ever really happened in this movie. I kept waiting for something to happen, I kept waiting for the story to develop and it eventually ended up being just this big blob of nothingness. If they had bothered to hire a good writer and use a decent script there might have been some content in this movie but it truly felt like it was written by a 14-year-old.
Please do yourself a favor and do not watch this film there are so many better things you could be doing with your life.

Why was this nonsense film ever made/released? An actress with an awful accent and zero boxing skills wants to box 'so bad'. Then the story dives when she gets cut when having tennis balls thrown at her during a drill. Then she's worried the medicated gauze will hurt. Mumbling Ving Rhames offers nothing to this movie without a story line, purpose, character development, reason for 'time switch' (were the cuts in the future or in the past?) direction, and action. Just awful. So bad that even 'Darius' the boyfriend who she keeps calling isn't ever shown in the film. I am going to surmise that other than being paid, no one else wanted to be in this movie either.
I had high hopes for Uppercut, especially with all the action and excitement it promised. Unfortunately, the film didn't quite deliver. The story feels rushed, with a lack of depth in the characters, making it hard to connect with anyone on screen. While the action sequences are fun at times, they quickly become repetitive and predictable, missing the impact I was hoping for.
The pacing is off, and at times, it feels like the film is dragging its feet. There are glimpses of creativity, and some visuals are decent, but they aren't enough to elevate the overall experience. The movie tries to be bigger than it is, but instead of a thrilling ride, it ends up being an average, forgettable action flick.
If you're looking for pure action with minimal story, it might still entertain, but for anyone hoping for a memorable or deeper experience, Uppercut falls short. It's just not the knockout I was hoping for.
